YES!!!! Finally the Rose! I've been voting for this for AGES! I'm so excited for this! The Rose used to be with J&Star, but sued them for breach of contract for not paying them and not providing revenue reports. During their military service they fought the legal battle, then when they got back they won and formed their own label Windfall, partnered woth Transparent Arts. Now they get to do their own thing, and their new music shows it!

Ahhhh The Rose. Before my SKZ obsession there was The Rose. Sammy (Woosung) is from LA so that’s why they have some pretty dope English songs but they all speak English pretty damn well. YES! The Rose was my first Korean music experience. I fell in love with their music and went to see them as my first live concert in 15 years back in October! It was SO GOOD! They are amazing, and they deserve to be so much more well known than they are. I call them my gateway to k-pop. (Because somehow finding them and listening to everything they have ever done led me to Stray Kids, IDK. It just happened.) You should do Alive next because it is a duo with Back to Me. But then you should check out Sorry, their first ever release, as well as Red, She's in the Rain, Cure, Beauty and the Beast, WONDER....so many more!! They can ALL sing! But Woosung and Dojoon share main vocal duties, with Woosung being credited as their lead vocalist. They always have Hajoon and Jaehyeong sing one song at every concert, like they don't want Black Roses to forget that their drummer and bassist can also sing (as if we would!) I absolutely love the contrast between Woosung's raspy vocals and Dojoon's clear tones. In fact, even though Woosung's voice is so unique and vocally interesting, there is something about Dojoon's voice that just makes me SO HAPPY every time he sings. Their music always has such deep meaning. Their whole album, Heal, was about THEM healing emotionally after coming back together after two years of separation for their mandatory military service (Woosung did solo stuff during this time because he was from LA and didn't have to serve. You should definitely check out his solo stuff. Phase Me and Lazy are stand outs). I can't listen to Cure without tearing up. And She's in the Rain is about depression and suicide, and Beauty and the Beast is about all forms of love. They are just so good, and deserve so much recognition. They haven't been backed by some company, they've built their audience and fanbase one step at a time with grassroots and grueling effort. (Seriously, these guys need to take more breaks.) Fun fact: Woosung was once a k-pop trainee....I want to say for JYP? He did it for two years and hated it. He said it made him feel like he was in prison. He wasn't allowed to leave unless he was going to the gym, it was soul crushing. When he left that, he thought it had killed his love for music. He worked a regular job for months while staying in Korea, but was friends with Dojoon and having lunch with him a lot. Dojoon had a band with Hajoon and Jaehyeong, and they needed a lead vocalist. Dojoon talked a reluctant Woosung into doing one gig with them, and from the very first song, they all knew this was it. Since then, they've been The Rose. They started our street busking and now tour the whole world doing concerts with thousands of fans. But Woosung's time in the industry means he knows a LOT of people. When Suga was writing Snooze, he was having trouble with the hook. He called Woosung and asked him if he would write it for him. Woosung did, so then Suga asked him to come record it. Because of Suga and BTS's crazy popularity, that song really brought Woosung and The Rose some new spotlight and fans. People heard Woosung's vocals on it and were blown away. But Woosung was super casual about the whole thing. He was like "We're friends. Of course I helped him out. Of course we wanted to record it together." It was really sweet. Also, when The Rose released their first track, Sorry, they received a lot of criticism. It was "too slow", not the sound that was popular in the industry at the time. But they said "we don't care. This is our sound." And they have stuck by that for six years. They are FINALLY receiving some of the recognition they deserve. Please do react to more of their stuff! ETA: Sorry if this is a lot. I am obviously a Black Rose, lmao.

@@blueberrycreamsoda Right?? So, I didn't tell the whole story because my comment was already a small book, buuut....the way it happened was actually pretty funny. I discovered and got REALLY into k-dramas last summer. Like...obsessed. I posted about nothing else for awhile, so Facebook showed me an ad for The Rose's Dawn to Dusk tour. Me: screenshot it and shared it to my feed, with the caption "FB's algorithm thinks it knows my interests! LMAO". A good friend who is ARMY responded and told me "Actually, that band is The Rose, and they have a bit of an 80's/90's music vibe. You'd probably really like them." Me: "...eeeeh, no, I'm good." But then she started sending me links to songs. It took ONE SONG for Woosung's voice to sway me, and before I knew it I was listening to all of their music, deep diving them as a group, watching reaction videos....and buying concert tickets. I had so much fun seeing them live! Then the same friend was all "You should listen to BTS." Me: "Amy, no! I only have time for this level of obsession for ONE GROUP." I'm trying to remember exactly how The Rose led me to Stray Kids. I think Bang Chan reacted to one of their songs in an ep of Chan's Room, and I was like "who is this guy?" And then Stray Kids performed at the VMAs, and it trended all over social media, so I finally went "Really WHO ARE THESE GUYS". (Hyunjin with his hair long and tied back drew me in, I admit it.) And I watched that performance with my jaw on the floor. And then I watched Maniac and Felix's voice...and that was it for me. I was already a Stay. I listened to a bunch of their music and kept thinking "but these guys rap. I hate rap. Don't I? But this is actually good. Like really good. OMG, DO I LIKE RAP NOW??" (Yes, apparently I do. I entirely blame Changbin and Han.) In a few short months I went from knowing nothing about Korean music to being in multiple fandoms and now it is all I listen to. My goal is to see a k-pop group next, preferably Stray Kids (my #1), but I would also not mind seeing Ateez or (G)Idle. At the end of the concert in October, Woosung said The Rose would be back next year. If they do, I will be there again. Turns out, Facebook's ad algorithm got it right for once. 🤔🤣

A little info…😊 So the band started with 3 members Dojoon (2nd vocal and guitar), Jaehyoung (bass) and Hajoon (drums) they weren’t officially a band but had formed right? So they needed another vocalist and were drinking buddies with Woosung (main vocal and guitar) so they formed the band Windfall. They then joined a company and became The Rose. Not too long ago they left this company and started their own company -this company was named Windfall after their old band name. Woosung is from LA and moved to Korea as a teenager for music, since being in the band he also has a bunch of solo music if you want to check that out as well. Basically they are amazing and are currently going on tour with their most recent album Dawn and Dusk. Some song recommendations would be;- Sorry, Beauty and the Beast, She’s in the rain, Childhood, Red, Sour… Or their music video that is a continuation of this one would be Alive, an amazing song. Ahhh I’m so excited! The Rose is one of my favorite bands! 8:31 Woosung (the lead singer) said when he was a trainee they tried to make him like to change how he sings because it wasn’t the standard sound. But he obviously didn’t listen to them. Us fans say he’s singing in cursive. The first song I ever heard from them was Sorry, so I highly recommend that song because I fell in love with them because of it. Black Rose, Strangers, Wonder, Alive, You’re beautiful, Childhood, Sour, You Make Me Bad, She’s In The Rain, and Take Me Down are some of my favorites of theirs. I recommend their entire discography if I’m being honest. Black Rose was a song they released when they went on a hiatus due to military and having to leave their old company due to not being compensated for anything they had done under the label. They ended up having to sue the company to which they ended up winning while they were in military. They released it as a thank you to the fans for sticking with them.

My DD got me into The Rose. I took her to see them live when they came here two months ago. They are hilarious. They didn’t do a lot of crowd interaction during the concert playing straight sets with a brief intermission. Woosung has a Very unique voice. They closed the concert with the song “Wonder”, also “She’s in the Rain” is a great song.

Transparent Arts is their partner they work with. Windfall is the company they formed on their own after having left their former company in Korea. So you will see both names in everything they promote. Although they are not as popular in Korea, they are increasingly gaining popularity and getting known internationally. The last album, DUAL, hit #83 on the Billboard 200 charts. :)

I got to see The Rose live this year and it was one of the very best concert I have ever attended. The croud knew every song. The last album (Dual) is all in English (except one line I think). The album before that (Heal) was almost all in English too. The Rose did 4+ MVs for this last album and they give you an idea of the broad type of music they create. I would say more indie rock. The list is long of songs I love, so maybe Nautious, Childhood, Sour, Baby, or the live performance they did for ILYSB (that really only shows off Woosung, speaking of which he has solo stuff and I love his song Phase Me). You can pick anything and it will be good

The majority of their newest album DUAL is in English. Woosung was born in LA and Dojoon lives in New Zealand so they've always been fluent in English while Hajoon and Jaehyeong have been learning steadily in the last 2 years. They've previously said that they write their songs in whatever language fits... sometimes thats all in English or Korean and sometimes its a mix.

I remember sitting in my room bored and, after my friend recommended their music to me, giving it a listen just to end up sobbing like a baby 30secs into the first song I listened to. Never did a band touch me emotionally like this that fast and they became one of my favourites bands since then. Can't wait to see them live on their europe tour soon!

Just to clarify, they used to be under a Korean label ( J & Star Company) but filled a lawsuit to be released from their contracts after poor management and lack of pay. They then made their own company "Windfall" named after what they called themselves back in the days when they did busking and work under Transparent Arts. Even when they were under their Korean label, the majority of their fans were international. Lately, they've been getting a lot more recognition - probably because Woosung did a collab with Suga - but they've always been way more popular internationally since they are a band.

Thank you for reacting to The Rose. They are amazing. Highly recommend their other discography. Some of my favorites are the songs Time, Lifeline, Nauseous, Sour, Beauty and the Beast, You’re beautiful, Sorry, and she’s in the rain. I was lucky enough to see them in concert a couple months ago and they were absolutely incredible live.

I saw The Rose live in Toronto for my birthday ( it was my birthday present to myself 😂) and it was AMAZING !! I can’t listen to any of their songs anymore without wishing I was back at the concert 🖤 I recommend listening to Cure, Sour, Alive, Red, Beauty and the Beast and Wonder.

I love them - saw them in concert in the US. They sold out almost all the shows in the US - Kia Forum as well. Recommend Cure, Alive, Definition of Ugly, Lifeline so much more 🖤🌹

Back to me was also the song that got me into the Rose. Instantly, just the first few seconds I heard Woosung sing I was sold. This band has my heart! SO glad I was able to see them live a few days ago. Their songs are wild Live.

omg yesss, everytime you both react to a kband my lifespan extends for 10yrs moreee!!! I love seeing ppl react to those amazing artist that are so underapreciated even tho their music is amazing!!! The rose have been around for quite a while, and even if in korea they may not be that known, i think internationally at least ppl know their name, and know about woosung bc he is iconic jsjsjss. So for me they are famous yeah (delulu fan here jsjsj) I loveee the rose, they are incredible artists and their music and voices are way beyondddd. I cant wait for more reactions on them :)))

I'm a 60 year old man and when I heard the opening to Sorry their debut single in 2017, I believe on 1 the K I became a fan. I just love watching peoples reactions to their first time hearing them knowing they will be surprised. Great reaction guys! 👍

Yes!! I love The Rose soo much, I discovered them during covid in 2020 and fell in love immediately, had to wait a couple years for them to release new music though but that time was worth it, I can't believe you've never heard of them! If you want to listen to their Korean songs, I suggest "Sorry" "She's in the Rain" and "Red" For their English songs, "Alive" (this song makes some of the best reaction videos), "Sour" and "Wonder" are really great. A warning tho... you can listen to three songs by The Rose and those three songs will be totally different genres. They don't really fit into one category.... "Alive" has 80s vibes while "Back to Me" is rock and "Wonder" is an anthem. Meanwhile, "Beauty and the Beast" and "She's in the Rain" are slower lyrical songs.

I'm so happy y'all found The Rose!! They are one of my top five favorite bands. This particular album of theirs reminds me a bit of another favorite band of mine, One Ok Rock. Idk if y'all have reacted to them or not. Anyway, I recommend y'all check out The Rose's Sour, Red, and Alive.

Your reactions were my exact reactions! 😂 😂😂 I heard this song in August and became an instant fan. I became obsessed and was lucky enough to catch them at their live conert in my state (Minnesota) in October 2023. I got VVIP tickets just so I could meet my bias, Woosung. It was one of the BEST concerts and nights of my life! And before discovering The Rose, I was only part of the Army fandom. I can't get enough of The Rose. I would suggest watching "Alive" next because the ending of this MV transitions to that MV. But honestly, ALL of their songs are great. Each song is different but they're all well produced with an intention.

I love this band. They have been my number 1 artist on my Spotify year end for 2 years in a row and I'm still listening to them almost daily. Thank you for punting that out. This thing has puzzled me for years…all those thin compressed vocals (like squeezing air out of a balloon)…..why is this a “thing” in Kpop?? I get it on stage while choreo’s goin on. But otherwise it’s not even like it’s a great skill. Anyone can achieve it with practice. But the rich bass/baritones that only some are gifted with can’t be achieved in a lifetime if they don’t already exist. They are a gift. As for (lead singer) Woosung I’ve seen him perform live here twice (solo and with The Rose) and this guy just KNOWS he’s special. It would be hard not to but I think you hit the nail on the head. I love putting Woosung’s voice in my head while working & practicing along with him & in a pretty short time it’s just like you said. I feel like my vocals have weights in them. Actually all “The Rose” members can sing & have solos that they do but my personal faves are Beauty and The Beast, She’s in The Rain & Sorry. Img and you’ve gottta see their cover of ILYSB. Even people who never liked the original go nuts over that.
