Freddie's pitch on "come back to me" immediately following "counting the hours days by day", especially the way he hits the "me" and then falls out of it. This track has so many Queen moments: Brian's waltz on guitar, the drums kicking into the 4/4 section, John's bass interacting playfully with the piano. But that phrase is worth a dozen Bohemian Rhapsodies for me.

Us old Queenies don’t forget. We saw Queen live. They had their own genre they were so eclectic and Freddie’s four octave range was powerful. They were incredible and quite experimental but no auto tune or prerecorded tracks. These were professional musical artists -the Mozarts of the 20th century.

Try Seaside Rendevous or Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, very 20s 30s esq' Freddie actually sings with a bucket on his mic to get that very old type of sound on Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon. Hence in the film Bohemian Rhapsody when they are first doing their demo you see them with coins and the bucket swinging on the mic...that part depicted how experimental they were with different sounds using very odd things....including thimbles on their fingers tap dancing on the production desk.

I was told by a vocal instructor in England that Freddie, Brian and Rodger would all sing each harmony note directly into the mic, in unison. They would then repeat that process 3 times for each individual note, bounce all of those voices down to 2 tracks, and then do the same for the next harmony part. On top of that, their voices just so happen blend perfectly together. And then throw in the tones from Brian's guitars. I am absolutely obsessed with the Queen sound!

I really love these songs that have a sort of romantic, old fashioned feel layered on top of a soft rock mood, then the unexpected rock punch up. Freddie was a genius in his blending of music, nothing was too dangerous for him to try, Queen rarely played it safe. Thank you for your reaction. If you have not yet done March Of The Black Queen, you truly must. That song is amazing. More Queen?? Yes, Please. I can never get enough and seeing people react and break it down is always so much fun. I was born in the 1950s so Queen has been a staple for most of my life and I forget how each of their songs hit me the first time I heard them, so it is good to relive it through the reactions of others.

The sensation you feel is what I felt 30 years ago when I first heard it. It was a complete exploded surprise. You replay the song whenever you find a nice part and discuss how good it is, that's also what I did 30 years ago. There's always something new in every Queen song which always wrapped in hard rock and desire for perfection. For Queen, good music is not their identity. Their music must be extremely good and if possible more than that.

So glad you pulled this one out. It is perfection!!! ❤ What Brian May does with his guitar is phenomenal but no one ever takes the time to really listen to the bass guitar on this song. It’s incredible. If you ever get an opportunity to listen to the bass part isolated it is incredible in my opinion. John Deacon doesn’t always get the love he deserves. An example of why I protest when people say live Queen is ALWAYS better live. I don’t think this song was ever done justice in a live version. The piano and outstanding bass are too difficult to really appreciate. And the studio version has such a “punch you in the face” feel when Brian and Roger come in halfway through the song. This version makes the song feel more like…fluff.
