Can we take a moment to admire how beautifully written these lyrics are? The way the words flowed together is nothing less than impressive all while conveying a lasting message that truly reflected those who were singing it. The only drawback is that the song is fairly short, but I can’t think of any songs that could top this one.

Note: by saying the structure is simple, I do not mean that it's not brilliant. It takes a hell of a mind to put that much meaning and flow into such simple verses.

Hitler was, and what he envisioned was beneficial for the German people after so long of being stepped on and punished for a war that they didn't even start. @@ethanjones3180 To be honest, in my country Hitler wasn't that evil in their eyes, well most of old people and veterans from Vietnam War and Korea War told me about communism was more as a threatening force, demonized in history book at school. This I qoute is sarcastically meant for situations in my country right now. Having long history of being under dictatorship regimes, most people still don't see the threat and they obey willingly to the dictators They saw as to "Ensure security and continuing stability of country." After nearly five years of dictatorship, we finally got the "election" but somehow the same dictator's party is the victors. Many people still cheering for them. They persecute for those who disagree with their authority in the unimaginable ways and they never put it on the news. During post-ww2 anyone who disagreed their regimes will be marked as "communist extremist" and will be put to death by law. The Coronation of our new King and Queen has just ended last week. The leaders you defend and describe them as democracy are the ones who practiced discrimination and terror against a sect of your people just because they are Muslim. They subjected me to the worst imaginable torture, abuse and displacement from their country, and the rest of the people did not speak from other sects only because of the difference in religion. It is natural if a segment of the people is oppressed and the rest remain silent, then the state becomes tyrannical The strong in it eat the weak, so they taste from the same cup of injustice

Honestly, "The blood of the martyrs will water the meadows of France!" is honestly my favorite line in this song. Just the fact that it implies that every single person who died for the revolution will not be in vain and that their death had meaning to their cause. Even if they die and will not see the life and freedom they envisioned, the revolution, and by extension France, the country they love and fight for, and for the people they fight alongside with, will one day bloom and thrive from the soil their blood had nourished.
@RichardGadsden
@RichardGadsden 25 күн бұрын
That line, of course, echoes the Marseillaise's "Qu’un sang impur abreuve nos sillons" - "May their impure blood water our fields". "Impure blood" means the blood of the commoners, as opposed to the "pure blood" of the aristocrats. Note that Feuilly's verse in the French-language original does not have this reference (the original French lyrics are that he wants to be the first to die, "Le premier nom gravé au marbre du monument d'espoir" - the first name engraved on the marble monument of hope.

The DJ was able to play a music-only version of this and gave us a few cordless mics. We started off scattered around the room and we all started singing, eventually coming together in front of the dais, facing everybody. They put the lyrics up on a screen behind us, karaoke style, and all the guests at the wedding stood up and we all sang together. One of the coolest things I've ever been a part of. So I hate to be that guy, and I am by no means calling FAKE NEWS or anything, but the linked story says they were singing Le Marseillaise (the national anthem of France) not Do You Hear The People Sing from Les Miserables. This does not in any way demean or lessen the atrocity that is that story but if we're going to spread awareness about these things, it helps to be as accurate as possible about them.
@nutriciousmax223
@nutriciousmax223 4 жыл бұрын
@@antonyduhamel1166 Ah, of course, completely forgot about that detail. Yes, somehow nearly all proper news outlets got the information we had sung the anthem of France instead of this song. Thing is we were initially planning on singing that, but in the end there weren't quite enough of students with us who studied the language itself. And since the entire uni knows English pretty well, we decided to go with this as an alternative, which is just as fitting and powerful imo.

I have seen the state of both American political parties. They have always been at each other’s throats for ages, but with the election controversy leading to and resulting in the assault on the US Capitol.. it’s safe to say that BOTH the Democrat and Republican parties should disband one way or another regardless of the unlikely odds.

I have been on marches for Brexit but always thought how much more powerful they would have been if we had sung as we marched but it was only at the end when that happened. I hope everyone who is awake learns by heart the words of this powerful song or another equally powerful and when they have decided enough is enough take to streets and sing their way to freedom . Soft Girl what r u talking about? Acab is born out of hatred of police genocide and is completely justified. Looting IS the ultimate form of protesting they are taking back material wealth that has been robbed of them for 400 plus years. You’ve been watching too much MSNBC

@Soft Girl lmfaoo yes they do they have the right to loot from corporate stores not from small business. they are reclaiming labor that has been robbed from them, stop trying to act like only small business' are only targeted when thats clearly not true and its billion dollar companies that are being looted are the vast majority. Looting IS protesting, Looting IS Redistribution.

@Soft Girlyeah i did and ur simply avoid the facts u idiot, u realize ACAB is an expression not a group right? just like antifa isnt an organized group its simply a movement, again im not condoning looting small business but the majority of the looting is targeted at large corporations who deserve it, it seems you care more about looting and the loss of material wealth rather then the genocide of black people that has been led by the police in this country, ur trying to be a fear monger while avoiding the actual cause of that crime, your shifting the blame to some perceived bs libertarian free will where we just judge people for the things they do even if the things they do are a natural response to conditions they've been subjected to.

One day, I hope my people will once again be brave enough to understand this song. I'm from the Philippines. Complacency has blinded many of us to the will of tyrants, greedy political dynasties and useless strongmen.

I just love these lyrics... This is the pure and simple wish of the downtrodden and misstreaten. A wish for equality and to be treated with basic respect. A grass root movement, still not corrupted by greed and powerhunger by a few top dogs, feeding on the desperation of the people. The Statue of Liberty was donated by the same french people depicted in Les Miserables - a symbol of freedom and equality to a budding new american nation. Today she is nothing but a cheap tourist attraction - sold out, like the foundating principles the US was founded upon.

I wasn't silencing you, I just feel like I can say what I want due to the anonymity that I have on the internet. If you feel like being silent, then so be it. Your second point about the therapist however..... I actually do think I need one of those but I can't afford it.

Democracy is dying now. Politicians are hungry for power and wealth. We, people are starving to death.We put trust on you but this is what you(Politicians) give us. People, stand up for which is right. Politicians are afraid of people's power. Let us take back what belongs to us for democracy is freedom. Freedom of speech, knowledge, truth,

On Aug 10, 5 young activists from Myanmar jumped from a 5 story building to avoid the junta's arrest. All of them are sumed to pass away. This song really make me cry like a child. And I feel how much we are hungry for the freedom. Really, the blood of the martrys are really watering the meadows of Myanmar.

If only people who can go to the protests could start singing this with a few friends and will keep repeating it until everyone else joins in if they know the meaning of this song. It would be an awesome display of passive power and unity but I doubt that will ever happen since it seems more like a fantasy dream.

i am scared for what my country will be in the future when the son of the dictator who killed thousands of innocent people take the position as a president. never again.. yet here we go again. they forgot what he did to our country, they forgot the debts he left unpaid, and the countless lives he took. i wish those who voted for him to have their children grow up exactly who they voted for. please wish us all luck. from the philippines.

🇭🇰 is a fallen nation. We all need a revolution to save ourselves, looking back in 2019, we all did what we can do, we rose our banner, we fight for democracy,freedom. We all wish to live in freedom and liberty. The blood of martyrs, HKers has watered the meadow, the streets of Hong Kong. All the sacrifices and hard work will not be forgotten, we will one day overthrow the dictatorship and live in the garden of lord. This will be written into history, no matter who ever tries to cover this.
