Wow it’s amazing to listen to what he has to say and now I can clearly see why all these prestigious orchestras are dying to work with him in long term as soon as they work with him once. Brilliant musician!

Only recently did I become aware of Klaus Mäkelä. He is so awesome, in the most original understanding of "awesome". He is brilliant. Gifted. Energized.

The term awesome does not originally apply to people, rather use awe-inspiring or amazing...

I love this interview. James Jolly has great questions, comments, & attitude. Klaus Makela is gorgeous and brilliant. I hope he is not a flash in the pan and has a very long career. I am looking forward to hearing him in Chicago next year doing the Mahler third.

This is an arena where one must stand out through achievement. When you witnes the world's response over these conductor's achievements, you realize they made it on the merits of their achievements. There has been for the last 50 years a very subliminal Finnish invasion in classical music in every dissapline. In Finland, if one is not patr of the Elite, they can enter the Elite through achievement. As, achievement begets Achievement. It is nothing short of an entire life's unquestionable devotion. Absolutely nothing short of whole hearted devotion.

Yes, in Finland you get the chance to develop your skills and talents (which most people do have) if you belong to the the group of elite in a society. So, talking about equal opportunities for everyone is just empty words. There are many mature, very talented and skilled artists in Finland but they have never been members of The Elite. Well, however, we can all enjoy happiness and inward richness of creativity because it is not tied up with being a member of a certain group. I wish everyone all the happiness, naturally to this young privileged Klaus, too.

As a music student in Finland I have no idea what you are talking about please explain what is this elite you are talking about? teachers? For most job opportunities and schools they have talent based tests which I think have been fair.

Take Sibelius, His parents did not want him to enter music, but when they saw his scores, they allowed Sibelus to march forward with his life's passion.

Can the interviewer please speak less, even if that leads to some awkward silences (if thats what hes trying to avoid)? Let the man think in peace, its not an exam or race... you can always edit the silences out
