I used to have a crush on a Chinese guy when we were both studying in Japan. He worked part time in a same restaurant with me. I tried to learn Chinese to talk to him by this song. But before I could do anything, he quit the job. We were not in the same school, we had no mutual friends. I didn’t know where he went. Now it’s been 3 years later, I left Japan. Still wondering where he is now, how he’s been. We were never a couple, were never friends. It was just my feeling. This song reminded me everything about him. I can’t explain the feeling, it’s just sad and magical at the same time. I think we’ll never meet again, or even if I do, i don’t think he’ll remember me. Just know that he’s a good part of my memory.

This song reminds me of a Chinese boy I met from college. We were in the same class. I just moved and didn't know anyone. He was the first person that talked to me. On one rainy day, I was waiting in front of the library, and he approached me with an umbrella. Then he talked to me more and more. He asked me to study with him sometimes, and we started to hang out. And on another rainy day, he came to the library with a Chinese pizza and a moon cake. I won't forget it. Seeing him walking in the rain, from his car to the library while holding the pizza with so much care. He called me princess and baobei and told me cute jokes that made me laugh so hard. We used to hang out at the airport parking lot to talk and look at the sky. He was interested in photography and astronomy. I really missed eating in the car with him. He'd buy random food in small portions so I could try different things. It make my heart happy just thinking about him. We had this song play in the car and I sang along. It was a spontaneous and cute moment for both of us. For many reasons, we disconnected. We spent a short time together but those were some of the best time and sweet memories. We were so innocent

Similar to British accents when singing English, American accents when singing Chinese are masked significantly. As someone whose Chinese isn’t that good, even my ears can pick up that it isn’t a native Chinese speaker singing. It’s definitely clear that he has practiced it, though. And I will note that especially at 2:17-2:25, the accent is actually exceptionally good.
