I totally agree and reached this same conclusion method myself after learning both triad and scale approaches. Why carry around with you the entire toolchest (scale) when all you need are a few tools (chord tone triads) to start. Then build out radially adding in the passing non chord tones later as needed. The triad shape tells you which scale shape is to the left and right of the triad. Radially outward off a center note vs sequentially linearly I think is superior way of viewing the fretboard. Can randomly non adjacently jump around at will without losing track of where you are because there is no sequential dependencies.

Arpeggios and chords can be studied together, as they are two aspect of the same thing.

@@MusicTheoryForGuitar I like thinking of chords as its own sort of category for lead playing, even though I'm using it as arpeggio or a mini scale (not playing a full chord at once but the notes of that chord). When you realize all the tons of chords shapes you've got such an arsenal--- of course you need to know where they live (a word you used "superimposed". I know no 2 players think exactly alike, but I think superimposition is pretty common. Sometimes its so cool.. play notes or a completely different chord that is in key over that different chord, so often ear candy. Something I don't hear talked about is how to organize all our knowledge? How to make it retrievable. I think over time we come to know, but with better organization I think that can not only speed the process, but make it easier to relearn the bits and piece wit learn and forget.

Hi Tommaso! Do you think it is a good idea to learn all the modes shapes from all the pentatonic shapes + adding the two extra notes? Or you thik it's better to use other shapes for modal approach?
