Mme. Angele Dubeau makes a great point. The patrons for new compositions today are entertainment industry corporations needing music as accompaniment to their work in the visual medium. Anyone who has listened to sound tracks of popular cinematic works may recognize Mme. Dubeau's point. Though musically promising and beautiful, the compositions were written not as music purely for music's sake but to serve a utilitarian function. How wonderful if some of the beautiful new themes in modern compositions could have been developed for purely musical aesthetics.
