I shared this with a few musically trained friends of mine and some young students too and they said they have never heard anything like this, ever! Though they have heard others speak about and demonstrate sruthi bhedam, it sounded like listening to some foreign language. But the way you explain such a complex concept, using your fingers so effectively, I think even I have started to understand what sruthi bhedam is, even though I haven't studied music much. The world really and truly needs teachers like this, instead of the half baked ones we see a lot, in every field.

Only a genius like the 'prince of Swaras' could handle a topic like Shruti bedam and make it appear so simple. Only he could do it so effortlessly! His warning not to attempt Shruti bedam in Gamaka pradhana ragas like Shankarabharanam is to be noted in perticular. Very Very educative sir.

I have asked Varma ji this many times too. He says he has as much sadness and pain in his life as most normal people have. But he doesn't feel like inflicting that on others. So he shares things that are either bright or useful or usually both bright and useful. Recently, the great musician from Kerala, Prof.Parasala Ponnammal passed away. Varma ji loved her more than he loved his own grandmother and they were very close. But if he makes a video about her, it will not be a crying video for sure. He will wait until he has his emotions in control and probably make a bright, happy video. I have observed this facet of his personality so many times over the years.
