Gold! I love the contrast from the intentionally goofy comedy parts right into some really smooth melodic and complex bits that really show off your skills. Real performance gold. The only kind of a performance from a musician who decided to "play all the instruments" and showing how far you can go instead of professionalizing in just one could give you.

Dude! This is so awesome. I just stumbled upon your channel and have started watching all your videos and sharing them to my musically inclined friends. I am inspired by how you create an instrument out of household and hardware store components. I made a fretless cigar box guitar a number of years ago that I gave away to a friend for a Christmas present. I definitely have to try making some of your instruments, they look so fun to play! I might start with the membrane clarinet, though I have never played one before. You should try making an instrument using glass as the inspiration like how you can make it sing with a wet finger on the rim. Thank you for the awesome videos.

I love it. But the Melodica uses equal temperament. And for drones, Just intonation sounds so much better. Simple ratios work best when you don't need to sound good in every key. That overtone flute is the clear winner though. That just washes you over with harmonic color. This is a treat.
@Cemballo3 жыл бұрын
Not sure the melodica was in (equal temperament) tune
@verdatum3 жыл бұрын
@@Cemballo because they're metal-reed instruments they tend to be tuned decently well. But you can hear that fifth was detuned compared to proper drones, because of the beat. It's still a clever hack when under a time crunch. And the balloon worked wonderfully as a visual element.
@NicolasBras3 жыл бұрын
The melodica was also a little bit out of tune, the air from the balloon isn't really similar to a human blowing, it would need some retuning!
@verdatum3 жыл бұрын
@@NicolasBras Oh good point. 1 balloon wouldn't give enough pressure without squeezing it, and that might pop it. You could get more pressure by adding multiple balloons ("in parallel"). And if that makes it too tricky to pump, that could be fixed by playing tricks with things like tube diameters. But, again, the trick with time-crunches is choosing where to sacrifice, and you did wonderfully in this respect
