To understand the entirety of this triumph please consider this: The entire launch and return was available to be seen throughout the world; The views were enabled by the success of Starlink, after more than 200 previous successful launches; Because of Statlink we could see the entire flight from Starship itself; This is the first time real rocket scientists and engineers can see the rocket both in flight and after returned. What will be learned is simply priceless.

Don’t let FACTS get in the way of a good story. Currently SpaceX has spent their entire budget to send a man to the moon and safely return that man, on,,, some half hearted launch practices and catching the booster. WOW, so far achieved around 5 percent of the objectives but used all the budget. Impressive eh ?

@@ultimatepepsi Yes, right, as if they didn't do some of those (secret satellites) until now! Weapons, esp. nukes, are prohibited, and that prohibition is likely to last because it is in nobody's interest to have their own power grid put down by an EMP "directed" against the enemy. Evaluations with masers and lasers were made during Reagen's SDI (Strategic Defense Initiative), until they "settled" for X-ray lasers. But those are fission-pumped lasers, read small nukes, single-use, hundreds or thousands of those. SDI was scrapped by Clinton and, I think, for good reasons: global-wide electronics wiped out by EMPs and Kessler syndrome, would instantly make the US the enemy of every other neutral or friendly country.

*Musk on Mars - Space Unicorns - See the Spoiler near the end.* Using statements issued by Elon Musk I have calculated the viability of his Mars colonization project. Strap in, the G-forces will be very high. Musk admitted that 1 million tons of material must be sent to Mars in advance of humans to supply the components for safe habitat. That requires 10,000 successful launches and subsequent descents of Starship to the selected habitat area on Mars (100 ton payload per Starship claimed by Musk). In addition, Musk stated it will take 6 more Starships for every Mars bound vehicle to refuel those Mars bound Starships for the actual Mars journey. *That's 60,000 additional Starship launches, allowing that there are no failures.* This gives us 7 launches for every Mars bound vehicle. So in reality, at one launch per day (wildly optimistic = delusional, but let's go with it) it will take 7 days per Mars bound vehicle. That now totals 191 years to complete material transfer. *Spoiler:* The window for a Mars launch is once every 26 months, with 15 days available in that time frame (49 launches per day). *That means Starship will have to cram in 732 launches in 15 days every 26 months to meet the 191 year infrastructure transfer.* 1) What will happen to the first material that lands after 191 years while it sits waiting for the final structural parts to be landed? 2) Who will finance each Starship? 3) Who will finance the cargo? 4) Who will finance the fuel mass needed to make the journey? 5) What can be done at the Mars site if material is damaged? 6) During the 191 years will there continue to be a viable SpaceX factory? 7) How many Starship launches will fail during the program to put material on Mars. 8) How many Starships will crash during the landing phase on Mars? *9) How about feeding the astronauts for 38 months once manned Mars missions begin? Musk has no clear answer.* These are the most basic problems. There are countless questions for the logistics to get started, keep it operational and do the costly program maintenance.
