But if one is praying for someone, they're praying to someone for someone, isn't it? For example: if my friend is ill, I'd pray to Allah for my friend, to make him better, right? So how does this thing work here in this ayah?

technically in Islam, praying is beseeching God Almighty, asking God for something. Solat is the act of worshipping. 5 times a day a Muslim must perform solat for himself, not for anybody else. I don't know what you mean by the word "praying" ? is it praying as in beseeching God for something? or is it praying as in performing Solat 5 times daily?
