As salamu aleikum: I'm an old revert and I was doing the same thing as well for a long time, thinking it was just to make the kids happy. One of the ways for it to end with us by the will of Allah, is to explain to the kids from a very young age why they can't have certain things and why it is important to stick to what Allah wants. It's difficult at the beginning but the more you explain with proofs the more they will understand and hopefully accept that everything we do is for their own good and for the sake of Allah. There is a verse in the Bible talking about the decoration of a cut down tree as being wrong. Of course all reasons are given to explain that this has nothing to do with the Christmas tree, but knowing where this tradition is coming from, I find the description of the tree in the verse to be to close to the description of the Christmas tree for it not to be it. This could constitute a proof for the kids and it could help a little in sha Allah. May Allah help and guide us all to the right path. Ameen And Allah knows best.
