@@thexnewyorker7284 yeah I know it’s totally uncommon on a lot of bikes and they wanted to get weight down which I can get behind, I think HD is taking steps in the right direction to give us better performing touring bikes so I’ll give em a pass on this one. But I’m also one of the weird ones that enjoy the fact they didn’t make a perfect bike so I have excuses to tinker 😅

Love my Somsong! Rode it 2k miles, round trip, up to Glacier Natl Park and it worked great. Got the skid plate too, haven't had a chance to install it but love the idea!

I 100% agree with using a skid-plate.... I have one on my Goldwing and I know its done its job more than once. If anything ever damages the Wing's engine case its a $14,000 / 3+ month long repair. Its cheap insurance to run a skid-plate.

I have the 11" Freedom Shield on my CVO ST. Perfect fitment and no buffetting over 90mph.

Yes they are out! I’m a little over 6’ 32 inseam running 11 inch! Absolutely perfect with a full face helmet shield open up to 80 miles an hour! I have the KW 13 inch which is also a nice shield, but doesn’t allow me to run MS hand guards. I highly recommend the freedom shield!

Great video as always. I have a buyer for my VRod coming this week. He is waiting on his check from the bank to arrive in mail. I really want a RG but I seriously can not justify the price tag. You gotta be close to 40k right now if not more with all the stuff you added on... mine is gonna be 28k+fees etc, then its gonna need a seat, windshield, exhaust, speakers that I can actually hear, and now a skid plate... Safe to say 35k at this point? And I get to do all the work... For that price I get no heated seats or grips, no hill stop / start. I dunno man ... I am really struggling to convince myself to pull the trigger

You’re not wrong about anything you just said except the hill stop/start. We do have hill assist. But honestly, I truly think the bike is FANTASTIC in stock form. You can easily enjoy it as is and slowly make the changes and enjoy the process. That’s the fun part. I’m just hauling ass with the build to keep content coming for you guys!

I’M not sure about the skid plate. If they made with more airflow or mesh maybe. As it is right now, it traps heat and airflow.

I bought the red someone 9” for my cvo rg st and its balls. Same with the fitment but not going to another one at all. Klockwerks shields as they stand I find absolutely ugly.

Have you noticed any higher water temps with the skid plate? I'd like to possibly add one but I live in Southern California and occasionally see 250⁰f water temps on hot days riding in the canyons. The air through the radiator is dumped below it so I'm concerned it could possibly restrict it slightly.

I have not no, I don’t see temps like that, hottest we’ve gotten is low 90’s but the vent holes are substantial. Could always drill a few more if necessary. End result is still a GREATLY reduced chance of a trip ending casualty.

@OffWeekGarage Thanks for the quick response! I think I'll get one. You sure don't want issues out here in the middle of nowhere in 110⁰ heat! The water cooling to me is unfortunately more cons than pros. My '19 air/oil cooled heads 107ci ran fine and had low oil temps even on hot days. The heat from the engine never bothered me. Now my oil temps are about 10⁰ hotter since the oil cooler is gone and we have to worry about the extra stuff breaking.

@@4wdiesels I hear you, there are definitely pro’s and cons, I think water cooling is a step in the right direction, there is a reason almost every bike and car have it now adays. They’re able to make better power, more consistent power characteristics and tuning, better idling in traffic, etc. But in the extreme temps you’re seeing it’s just not enough. Have you considered adding like an UltraCool oil cooler/fan setup? Have a family member that had to go that route with how much he rides Death Valley

Just bought my 24 Road Glide. Salesman told me that if I change out the windshield to be careful not to lose the grommets because they are $22 a piece.

Thrashin’ made a product, nothing reinventing the wheel, but their own design and cutouts, then leach companies come along and copy their design to a T aside from their logo to make a quick buck rather than make their own design which would be very simple.

And what do you think that skid plate will do? That will also bend, and fly off when hit and act like a hot knife threw butter slicing everything your trying to protect. Nice idea horrible execution. To flimsy and mounting not strong enough to hold when hit at highway speeds. Kind of like wearing still toe shoes… in theory sounds like would work but ask the guy missing five toes..

The goal is to deflect and take the brunt of a lot of things that could cause casualty’s. Of course hitting something rock hard at freeway speeds is going to annihilate your undercarriage. You have more problems than that at that point. The proof is in the images of failures already and the fact it covers that stuff. I’m just putting the info out there, it’s up to you guys to decide for yourselves based on what I show whether or not it’s worth it!🙌
