Wendi, that type of shovel with the long blade is one of my favorite garden tool for digging and cutting in the garden! Garden spaces are tight here in south Orange County California for sure, that’s why most of my garden is at my fathers house. Can’t do too much on my own condo patio. That dog you walk past looked hungry . 😊

All your hard work is worth it since you were able to have some very sweet bananas. I have a dwarf banana plant in a pot. Recently, it's been 40 degrees at night in Northern California, so I bring it inside. Great video!

Quite a nice plant. I wish I lived where I could grow them outdoors. I have a dwarf variety that I grow in 25 gallon livestock lick tubs here in north east Missouri. Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful week.

An old pruning saw kept for dirty in ground cutting is best for finishing off rhizome cutting after the initial spade plunge. Quicker, easier and does less damage to both pup and the mother stool. The damage generally heals and grows out ok, but increases the chance of fungal attacks and can check growth, particularly of the pup.

Because you have planted near a retaining wall I suggest digging up the entire clump and removing the suckers(pup) from the stump

How many pup can grow from 1 banana plant

A big vigorous clump can grow a dozen or more each year. A well managed stool ( a plant with 1 big shoot near flowering and 2 - 3 smaller "follower" shoots) will grow 2 - 8 new pups at a time. It depends on the variety and vigour of the plant.
