I've had to replace a few lower ball joints after driving 1st gen Tacomas as primary vehicle for 25 years. Fortunately I've never had one fail at high speed, always during a slow turn where no further damage was involved. This video reminds me I need to check my current ball joints and see if I need to replace them before they fail. Helpful video as always from this channel.

1st gen tacomas are well over 20 years old. Dont wait til it fails. Replace them now, its old AF. I have a 98 2wd, I replace every 4-5 years.

@@toycoma98 Time to check my 2017 as well. I know it needs power steering fluid, new front shocks, and probably LCA bushings. Which is a good time to check and or do the ball joints as well. ~120k mi / 180k km on it, but it gets used offroad most weekends. Check under your trucks every 6 months! I find oil change time is a good excuse to crawl under front to back, check everything out.

I replaced the lower ball joints on my 2000 Tundra probably 12 years ago. Time to check them, thanks for the video!

Also never use anything other than Toyota OEM ball joints! This is maybe the most crucial part to stick with oem

LBJ's + bolts were the 1st thing I replaced on my 3rd gen 4Runner when I 1st got it at 235K miles, always go OEM with this item!

So glad she came to you. I replaced mine with oem as preventative maintenance after the boot ripped and I had no play.

A timely post! My 06 Tundra LBJ's get inspected by me and my garage. I do think about them failing every time I take her out. I will replace them soon, but they don't show any movement to warrant replacement at this time. And yes, the forums are full of this subject! Thanks for the reminder.

1st gen Tacomas are 20 years old now. I've seen LBJ fail from Taco group chats.. Dont wait til it fails, if its the original, just replace them. Especially if its lifted. They are 20 years old, many miles on them. I have a 98 2wd, and replace every 4-5 years.

Thanks for the test procedure Petr. Luckily for me this happened on my truck when I was only turning around in the parking lot. Still had to replace the CV Axle. Good reminder to test these regularly! Happy Thanksgiving!

Fine, fine Petr! I'll check my lower ball joints! They are 7yrs old now... and they go offroad a fair bit. I like those little boot-saver things. I wonder if they came with the ball joints or they were separate....

There should be grease fittings on top of these ball joints to give them good greasing annually.

sometimes when a car is very old, a problem may not be worth fixing if it costs more than what the car is worth
@aaronbrown62662 күн бұрын
Ball joints don't cost more than the vehicle. And, if you're implying that it just doesn't matter on an old, drivable car, how about your life or innocent bystanders if one of these fail at highway speeds?
@davinp2 күн бұрын
@@aaronbrown6266 no I am not implying that. Of course, safety is most important and anything that comprises safety should be fixed immediately
