For those wondering why the mother stork killed two of her storklets: The father stork suddenly disappeared and stopped coming to the nest; it’s thought he was electrocuted by a power line, because he was a very good father who helped raise previous broods. At this point in their lives, storklets need one parent with them at all times to keep them warm and protected from the elements and predators. With the father gone, the mother stork was torn between conflicting instincts to feed her chicks or stay and keep them warm. After five days, the mother stork started reducing her brood starting with the youngest two, which left four. (The mother laid six eggs and all of them hatched, which was something of a record.) Faced with the possible loss of four black storklets (since the mother was spending less and less time at the nest), the scientists monitoring the nest took the unprecedented step of rescuing the four after they spent one night unprotected from a freezing rain. By the time the scientists arrived, the fourth storklet had died from hypothermia and they almost lost the third storklet from the same thing. The scientists then cared for the three storklets for about a month before planting the oldest two in “foster nests” that already had storklets in them. (The third fell out of the nest and broke one wing so badly that it had to be euthanized.) Both storklets were successfully integrated into their new homes and accepted by their new parents. One storklet survived to fledge and migrated to Israel. Sadly, the other one (and its foster siblings) was killed and eaten by a goshawk.

Я слышала от людей и сама сталкивалась ..Есть животные убивающие весь выводок а не только слабого . У меня была такая одна кролица на третий день всегда убивала малышей , что я только не делала и очень питательную белковую еду и к кролю пускала - всё ровно убивала . А другие нет . Спустя 20 лет появилась собака которая съедала щенков не успев родить сразу . По этому бавает разное , и связано не всегда с рациональностью . А другие животные и слабых и хороших всех вытягивают .

Totalmente normal essa situação. A mãe percebeu por algum motivo( doença, fraqueza,debilidade) que o filhote não iria sobreviver; então agindo pela chamada seleção natural, onde somente os mais aptos sobrevivem,ela achou que deveria finalizar o mesmo antes que ele morra um pouco mais a frente.
