This happened becuse Ethiopia is committing atrocities against her own people in Tigray. That means you can't keep milking AGOA while intentionally starving, killing, raping, cutting off phone, cutting off electricity, cutting off transportation and so on in Tigray. Genocide is an international crime and the United States can't do business as usual knowing the severity of the genocide against Tigray. You guys should talk about the genocide on Tigray so you can earn our respect.

There is no doubt AGOA benefits African countries including Ethiopia however, why AGOA is in place is to promote peace and democracy which the current government does not come close to be following due to the Genocidal war it declared in Tigray but everywhere in Ethiopia, including the invitation of foreign countries like Eritrea, UAE, Turkey and Somalia to the war! The Government has also been given ample opportunity to curve this but it stumped its nose to put it mildly! Well, this is the consequence… it would have made your convo more meaningful had it included the why the USA took the action which by the way have ample warning & could have made your convo more sincere! It is disingenuous to say you did not know:-)

It would've been fair to discuss what the Ethiopian government should've been doing to avert the decision too. because the bigger factor lies there since it is direct perpetrator of the humaniterian atrocities. But clearly everyone seem to be blindly loyal to it and keeps costing not only jobs but lives too and everyone here chose to back it. Sad!

@@mhn9358 "You can't have it both ways" You should really take your own advice on this. I am not the one holding one side to a lower standard. The fact is, even with all the atrocities perpetrator by the Ethiopian government it doesn't come anywhere close to what TPLF has done. People coming after the Ethiopian government, like yourself and the OP don't care one bit about Ethiopian people. You have chosen to soak up the propaganda produced by TPLF and believe that Ethiopians want to harm you simply because of your ethnic background. You say "All Lives Matter" and I agree. Ethiopia's exports to the US is nearly £300 million and only £86 million is under Agoa. In contrast US export to Ethiopia is nearly £900 million. Therefore there is a trade deficit of some £600 million in favour of the US. Agoa is thus less that 10% of the total trade between Ethiopia and the US. This will have a short term impact on some sectors affected but in the medium to long term this £80 million will be plugged easily through relations with China and others.

Ethiopia must develope its self- reliance on Ethiopians, not particularly the united states. There are markets for Ethiopian goods inside Africa, Japan, Germany, and China, among others. For any well informed and hard thinking Ethiopians, the significant of US trade relations is unfair, which favored its own selfish interst. In the long run, the Backbone of Ethiopia economy are the peasants not this urban factory workers. I HOPE THE HOST AND THE " EXPERTS" HAVE A SKIMPY UNDERSTANDING OF THE COUNTRY'S ECONOMY.
