Why are people so bitter? You're not toddlers anymore. If whatever you hear does not sit right with you, then do what you're comfortable with. Pastor T is here to guide,if you feel misled, take another path. Don't fight him.

I disagree with you. You just selected a section of songs! There are lots of reggae songs with various messages! Take time listen to lucky dube! Look at Bob Marley. It depends on the type of message the artist wants to put across. Some target love and unity.. Some talk about the system and politics.. Some pray God and some talk about Marijuana. So it will be so unfair to pick given sections to term reggae bad! We have reggae songs that talks about crime and its repercussions.

It is never about what people say...it is about what they carry.A gospel with a language you don't understand gets into your soul.Music is about influence. We suck peoples behaviour through their music or what they say.Spirits move in vibrations of sound and light....Music is deeper than we think....Music's origin is not entertainment but worship.Any music constitutes worship.....

The good thing about huyu pastor ni research. As much as he tries to break it down really well, I still love reggae. To me reggae is conscious music. There is also Gospel Reggae(ChrisTafari) which still spreads the Gospel. Pastor Tee keep up your good work of enlightening the Youth. Not everyone that listens to reggae, is misinformed or is a Rastafarian, or Boombaklaat. Reggae is conscious, Roots Muzik.

An opposing view point. A friend just sent me this video after I posted on FB about Bob Marley's new movie, ONE LOVE. MOG I love that you speak to relevant issues and in a way that is relatable. Keep up the excellent work and ministry! I am very familiar with Rastafarianism as a religion. You are accurate in your analysis. I do not agree with Rastafarianism and the belief of HIM as reincarnated Christ, or the indiscriminate use of weed, and other tenets that go against biblical principles. To your point though, not all points of Rastafarianism are wrong either. Where I primarily beg to differ is the conflation of Reggae and Rastafarianism. One is a genre of music, the other a movement that has used the genre of music as a vehicle. As a genre of music it was a fusion of Ska and Rocksteady. That said, Bob Marley who arguably was a pioneer of reggae and put Reggae on the map, was a devout Rastafarian as were many of his other original reggae counterparts. Their music was both spiritual, social and philosophical. And natuarally, they did use Reggae as a vehicle to spread their beliefs. So, does that make all Reggae bad? Does that make all Bob's music bad? For me the answer is no. Not all of Bob's music or reggae music has Rastafarian ideology. Some of it (the conscious reggae mentioned) has very positive messages that speak to a lot of social justice and philosophical issues that plagued and continue to plague society. A lot of it has messages of peace and unity and just very sound philosophy and yes, even biblical truth. Today, we even use reggae music (as a genre) in Christian music (i.e. gospel reggae). By the way, most of the worship music we use today (contemporary, gospel and even Arican praise styles has it's roots in what would be considered secular music - rock, blues, and lingala respectively). An argument could be made against the origins of each of those genres. Hymns back in their day when they were first emerging were considered "worldly". My point - an argument can be made for or against anything. I think a lot of times we throw out the baby with the bath water. All creativity comes from God. It comes down to what we choose to take out of something and how we use it. I also believe that as Christians sometimes we fail to be objective and thus relevant and relatable to those we are called to reach. I am a Born Again Christian and I love Bob Marley's music - arguably the most influential artist period. Do I agree with all of his songs/ ideology - no. But there are also many that I agree with and appreciate so it would be a double standard to just focus on the negative.

One of the biggest things the devil uses is music. He was the chief worshipper. So he knows the role of music to your soul.So if you want to know whether you belong to Jesus or the devil, just look at the kind of songs you listen to.If you enslaved to Reggae ,roots, secular songs etc, just know you belong to the enemy the devil. And when the devil has deluded your mind and soul, you can not see anything bad in it.Unless the HOLY SPIRIT OPENS YOUR EYES,YOU WILL STILL BELIEVE REGGAE IS GOOD.

More over I remember Lucky Dube said and I quote "If Rastafarian say Rastafari is God then Iam not A Rastafarian " And again when you say listen to reggae music u remain poor... does it mean listening to hip hop makes u rich? Pastor T, allow me to critic your summon. 1. Jamaica is an island country no a cluster of islands. 2. Reggae originate from Jamaica and Soca from Trinidad and Tobago 3. Reggae, like other genres of music or other arts like literature, is a mirror of thoughts, opinion and happenings in society both religious or irreligious ( moral and immoral). 4. Africans found themselves in Jamaica as a result of Atlantic slave trade to work in the sugar plantations and not deported from 'America and other west countries for fighting for freedom', that is Liberia! They became Jamaicans with the abolition of slave trade as did African Americans became Americans. 5. Reggae is not Rastafarian movement as Rastafarian movement does not define reggae. 6. Reggae comes in different categories ie Roots, Calypso, Dub, Reggaemuffin, reggaeton, Ragga 6.1 It's the choice and judgement of individual Reggae artist like other music genre artists to sing Religiously (Gospel Reggae), Irreligious moral ( Conscious Reggae) and Irreligious Immoral. 6.2 Conscious & Gospel Reggae, music provokes thoughts, influences positive opinion and critises ills in society especially perpetrated by governments and sorry to says this, Churches and "men of cloth". 6.3 Yes, conscious reggae music like any other platform eg civil societies, religious groups (like National Council of Churches of Kenya) and opposition parties, direct societal problems and issues to the government. It's the work of the government to offer solution to the people. From your quote of some reggae lines, one is Mykal Rose's - shootout. You must understand the history of violence in Jamaica. He is asking when the violence will stop because both adversaries trend on the same. Two, Morgan Heritage - Nothing to Smile about.. that's about the sorry state of government facilities yet people pay taxes. Don't we in Kenya not raise the same about our government? Three, The Gladiators - Phang of Hell they sing of 'a hungry youth is an angry youth'. Youth joblessness is a problem even here in Kenya! Don't this politicians try to woe youth votes by purporting to offer solutions once elected and they renegade on their promises? NB. let's take Max Romeo's - Stealing In The Name Of The Lord. Pastor T, you know so well that many among yourselves are not in the Ministry to Spread The Word of the Lord but to fleece the masses with fake miracles, hopes and witchcraft. Most of you are empty of Holy Spirit! 7. Reggae music DOES not spread the spirit of poverty. Poverty or wealthiness is an individual's choice. As a matter of fact, the churches have left societies more impoverished than they were. Churches in Kenya on matters land grabbing they are in the same WhatsApp group with corrupt politicians. 8. Corrupt/Evil pastors and churches just as corrupt/evil government will not want the masses to hear or see the alternative voice, voice that appeal to reason. They want to sell and instill fear on the people. The reason Bob Marley say we should emancipate ourselves from mental Slavery, a slavery designed, commissioned and executed by evil individuals purporting to be crusaders of Christianity. 9. Rastafari is not a religion but a movement that has a certain belief just as Legion of Mary. Do they believe in Jesus, they do only that they like the scholars, also dispute the nativity of Jesus, was Jesus a Roman, Jew, Black or Arab? Remember, in disputing him as white is informed by the knowledge that not everyone noble is white! 10. After your summon, did your congregants go home with full stomach because Reggae music leaves it's listeners hungry?

A very amazing and informed reply. I think Mr. T's analogy is biased. First he has to acknowledge that music has kept evolving and can't use modern reggae to judge the whole genre because the same is happening with every music genre including gospel. And second, he has to agree with me that Rastafarianism recognizes the same God as Christianity, Muslim and Judaism thus propagates the concept of monotheism. And lastly, saying that reggae promotes "poverty" means that on the other hand he endorses materialism over spirituality.

Thanks brother! Am Kenyan too and I love reggae and it's actually amazing how they call out social ills. Unlike majority of these 'gospel' songs they're so worldly and don't even encourage people to draw near God

What about Lucky Dube who sang against apartheid, liquor slavery, what about the Jr Ngong who tells you to be hopeful and creative you will make it and never sell out for a bonus, what about Bob Marley who tells Africa Unite. I can go on and on. Jr Ngong is rich, Bob was also rich, am sure Lucky Dube was also rich. I disagree with you there.

@@elvinaduda4657 Some of these reggae songs are inspired by real-life experiences. It is like reading a book that is not necessarily the Bible. You will still learn. You cannot dispel a whole genre of music. The pastor himself did some educating and inspiring hip hop. Have you listened to some other songs in hip hop? They are all about sex and drugs. You cannot dispel the whole genre just because, you have to listen first.
