It is difficult to do them when you think, he is not present or doesn't care to be present and sadly, people I know think that. Rabbi Friedman, my son shared your words with me, after reading what I wrote on Tisha B'Av. Your words resonate. My words were in part directed to fellow Jews who, feeling love and compassion for all living beings, cannot imagine the reinstitution of animal sacrifice. Feeling that perhaps that was something we needed to collectively move past before stepping into Geula. See Micah 6:6-6:8. There is a legitimate hashkafic view that offerings in the Third Temple will be like the mincha grain offering, involving no harm to any of Hashem's beautiful creations, compatible with the reality of Geula, the open revelation and experience of Godliness, when finally "the Little Girl is found." Even without mourning the cessation of animal sacrifice, there is reason to fast and mourn on Tisha B'Av. What I had in mind, mourning, in the midst of fasting, when I wrote the following words, was the Geula. The Whole of It. Actually realized. For the Jewish People, for whole of humanity, for all living beings and for the world. Ad Mosai! The "Little Girl" is here. All we need do is open our eyes. Here is what I wrote: Today Jews are observing Tisha B'Av, the longest fast day of the Jewish Calendar. Tisha B’Av is the major day of communal mourning. First and foremost Tisha B’Av commemorates the destruction of both the first and second temples in Jerusalem (586 B.C.E, and 70 C.E respectively), but many other travesties have occurred on the same date. Even if you find it difficult to mourn the cessation of animal sacrifice on a massive scale, there is reason to mourn. You can feel and experience the pain and suffering inflicted on innocent men, women and children in those conquests and in the other horrors commemorated in Jewish history. Beyond that, today, there is even greater cause for mourning. Just look at the world around us. Look at the hatred, one group pitted against another. Look at how we view other human beings. Look at what we are callously doing to other living beings and to the planet itself. And contrast all that with what could be.

We should liberate what is rightfully ours (Har ha Bayit) and start building the Beit ha Migdosh immediately. We could have easily done this after the Six Day War in 1967, but certain rabbis felt that the Jewish People were not yet ready. We are ready now.
