Humanity's nature, laugh at, criticize, some find it easier to use rearward move of the tandems so to guide the trailer by looking at the tires path, it works for some people, at the end of the day, getting the trailer in the spot is all.

I was at the Tracy, CA rest area parked next to a driver parked facing the wrong way at 0300 hrs, he tries to back up and get turned the right way to leave and can't do it. I asked him if he needed help and he was so happy! I told him I'm not a teacher: so I can't tell you how to do it...but, if you want I will do it for you and he hopped into the passenger seat and I got him turned around. I remember what it was like to be a noob and was glad to help him! My friend said I was that guy's hero, I'm no hero: just willing to help if it's needed.

Did you ask him how he ended up that way?
@32springstreetnyc948 жыл бұрын
+Adam Katt I did! He drove behind all the trucks and missed the one space so he went to exit and instead of exiting made the left to come back into the rest area right into that spot! Now as wrong as this is, it would have been no problem if he was good at backing: He'll learn...if he sticks with driving!

No the reason you slide your tandems is for weight distribution. Yes it may help with tighter turns but the only reason we have sliding tandems is to control the weight on the axles.
@johnb40137 жыл бұрын
I agree... when your scaling out with your load to be legal. HOWEVER, sliding tandems (especially on these newer trailers that have better slider mechanisms) is a great option to make the tight bend into a dock that was built in 1950-something when trailer were 40' long or less. once you get the trailer straight and lined up for the dock, then you can slide them all the way to the back if you want. I've done this many times in my 30+ years.

Why on earth do these american trailers have sliding tandems? What is the reason to move them all the way to the back in the first place?
@snakeandnape92528 жыл бұрын
Weight distribution. You can only have so much weight on your trailers tires and so much weight on your tractor tires. Sometimes depending on your load and how much weight is in your trailer it doesn't get distributed easily so sometimes you could have too much weight on your trailer tires and not enough on your tractor tires or vice versa. So you slide your tandems or your fifth wheel depending on the situation and take the weight off your tractor tires (drives) or your trailer tires (tandems).

Back in the day sliding tandems weren't a thing. U were dealt with the hand you were given. Pain in the ass to get around with a stationary tandem. Yea it helps to slide tandems when backing but that ain't the reason you slide em. It's for weight. Not maneuverability.
