Another reason that the Scat Pack had a harder time putting power down is that extra 500 lbs, give or take, that it weighs over the Mustang. It requires more frictional force (traction) to get the car moving forward because the friction has to overcome the extra weight, AND it has a slightly worse front to rear weight distribution than the Mustang, hurting it even further. As an aside, if you look at the torque at the wheels of the Mustang in 1st gear with the A10,, it's very high because of the overall gear ratios, so the torque is there: 420 ft-lbs x 4.7 x 3.55 (for PP1) = 7008 ft-lbs delivered to the rear axles. The Scat pack is: 475 ft-lbs x 4.71 x 3.09 = 6,913 ft-lbs. The difference is the Scat pack is making that torque lower in engine speed, thus, slower car speed, thus, also harder to put down.

On a cold day accurate 0-60 tests are almost impossible. If both cars had drag radials on a prepped surface like a dragstrip, the Scat Pack would win that test. I own a Procharged Mustang V6 and I generally get either car off the line because I can get traction. My car has very little torque at low RPM, 4.10 gears, and a higher stall torque converter. My 0-60 is 4 seconds giver or take about a tenth depending on the weather on drag radials. On the street with summer tires, I can get anywhere from a 4.5-5.2 seconds depending on the weather. If the temperature is in the low 50s or less, I don't even bother to try. As soon as the supercharger kicks in I lose traction. I've raced quite a few GTs and Scat Packs. The Scat Pack is quicker than the Mustang up to the eighth mile. However, the Mustang comes on strong after that. The Mustang has the advantage of being able to rev higher mainly because it has variable valve timing that controls the intake and exhaust valves independently. You can't do that with a pushrod engine that has a single camshaft like the Hemi. The 392 offsets that advantage with more displacement than the 5.0 Coyote. It's pretty much a driver's race in the quarter mile. In a roll race, the Mustang has the advantage.

This was a fun video. It's so funny that you have that intro about hey look this is what's going on here and people claiming/show rediculously low results but you have experience and know what you are doing and still are getting close to 5sec on the street. For a year I've been trying to get my tuned 19" VR30 Q50 into the 3.9 category and it's been a big struggle even though every one else tuned VR30 3.0t seems to find it so easy. I started out at 4.7-4.9 0-60 on the street but with a new tuner and better rear 275 tires I got down to 4.2 sec on the everyday street. I've had a few cars performance over the last 10 years where my car's performance never quite matches up to the internet's crowd's hype/numbers. Just funny how that works out. Sometimes leads me to think Dallas streets and or climate is cursed.

The Nexen Drag Radials that come standard on my 1320 really do a good job on the street. I had a 6speed Shaker Scat before the 1320 and traction with the Goodyear 245's was a complete joke. But the Nexens handle the power WAY better. Perhaps you should get some for Mrs X's Scat. I find them to be a great street tire. I haven't been to a prepped drag strip with my car, but I am more than happy with the way the 1320 handles and launches on the street. The car is completely stock with a hellcat airbox and tube and K&N drop in filter. Also I feel the Demon's adaptive suspension in the 1320 really helps it launch. Great video. Thanks for the content. Cold tires are the biggest factor as to the reason why the 0-60's are so low. Especially with summer tires in sub 50-60 degree weather. I was able to achieve 4.56 0-60 in the stang (similar set up to the one tested) with Michelin AS3+ all seasons. (Kansas, 61 degrees ambient)

Well I can’t say that the end result was much of a surprise to anyone lol. I trust your honesty, judgment, and experience with these performance vehicles; it just makes us that much more confident that the comparisons and reviews are fair. I will say that perhaps a 0-60 test on the street street surface just isn’t the best way to measure the two vehicles..well you did show us how unsafe it could be if the two cars were next to each other trying to race on a regular day LOL. I would love to see perhaps a 40 roll or a 60-130 with the two cars. Does the scat pack have enough hp and torque to hold off against that top end power on the coyote? Nonetheless I had a damn good laugh at this video. Very entertaining.

Happened only once in perfect air. But I consistently get 3.9 it doesn't matter if I use trans brake or just punch and go. The trans brake doesn't seem to do much for a non prep surface. The best time I ever got in my 2016 Shaker Scat Pack Challenger with the 6speed manual was a 4.2, but that only happened once in perfect air. My Mustang GT 1080R with 480hp (Ford Performances Cold air intake kit with 87mm throttle body and procal 4 tune) like the Bullitt never loses any traction in Sportmode +. And I have yet to lose a non prepped race except to a Porsche or a car with a big time launch control and comparable horsepower.
@keytothegate682 жыл бұрын
A 30-70 mph run would be a good indicator of what is faster. However, this is what you can expect on street surface or even worse depending on the condition of the tires or how you balance your foot. Maybe they should have called this car a " slider or a skater" instead of the " scatpack " That is why a V-6 AWD can often win at street light.

I have a Gen 3 5.0 but I still love how these Scat Pcks look especially the wide body. They’re just SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive. I think 305s on both cars would be a nice comparison. My mustang came with 235s (still have it) and it sucks.

Great content as always sir. This triggered an interesting thought for me. In the days of carburetors, cooler air increased performance. It has been my (anecdotal) experience that my newer vehicles are down on power in cooler air. I’m sure it has to do with air delivery, and fuel mapping, but I’ve not been able to find a reliable source to explain this. Not part of your presentation, just got me thinking. Stay safe 👍, Chuck

Best I've got with the dragy and my scat charger is a 4.5 on the street. 30 psi, 1920 DA 305 mickey thompson street comps. Seems as though the 305 vs the 275 is the difference maker!

I get a very consistent 5.1 seconds from my 2010 Ford Flex Ecoboost. She’s heavy, but the all wheel drive helps make up for it. I’m thinking a little bit of methanol/water spray to the intake charge should get me well under 5s. Someone above mentioned cars that run under six seconds; Yes they are definitely fun to drive no matter what they are!

ive have a 2018 mustang gt, factory stock, with factory stock all season tires. I run it on the street 0-60 and get consistent 4.74 e.t.s which was disappointing to me after seeing Evan smiths runs.no traction compound, no burnouts. since I've been drag racing since I was a very young kid, I know what im doing. much of it is properly setting up the performance modes. and having a true feel for the car. don't run it much anymore, but did run a challenger scatpack and a mustang Shelby gt350 and blew the doors off of both of them. its not only how fast the car is, its reaction time, on the left of the center of the dash there's a reaction timer. (which I discovered just recently) I had 2 runs with it. I knew my reaction time was quick, but I counted believe what the display said, 00.12 and 00.11/ that alone would win many races.

This video is basically proof why so many companies are putting an AWD option on everything. The reason why supercars as well as the 911 get away with mid to high 3 second times with 2wd is because the engine is sitting on the rear axle with an expensive suspension setup

The Scatpack numbers are way off. I just traded my Shaker in for a 2020 Scat Pack with the F1 Goodyear Stock tire. I pulled under 5 with the stock tires while in track mode
@a3rocks8514 жыл бұрын
Thankyou sir for the comparisons. I enjoy the “real world” driving tests as this relates to someone pulling next to ya at the red light, and thinking they have a quicker car. I have personally surprised a few muscle cars when I run a 4 flat, and 12 second quarter in my Audi Quattro. I also use the dragy to verify but my difference is 0 wheel spin:)

Standard Scat Packs come only with 245mm tires? The 275/305s are upgrades according to which packages you buy? That’s an awfully skinny tire. Kinda like my pops 69 GTO with those 14” red line tires. That used to sit in one place and burn out indefinitely lol

What are the best tires to get for the best traction ? Maybe on all 4 wheels ? I have 275's on my 2018 SP. Shaker .Thanks !

If you just use the drag strip mode you'll get a 4.4 just simply by flooring it, however I have the 20-in wheels and the optional rear axle ratio along with a 10-speed, I'm a pretty happy camper LOL

Love the video,without actually racing the two cars. I am definitely old school.Back in the late sixties early seventies,that’s what it was all about. Pulling up at a red light and best driver, car combination win. And thinking back just running street tires,it was a lot slicker at the drag strip,than it was on the street.
@kwilliams31614 жыл бұрын
I wish I could of experienced that era .now everyone wants a automatic because it’s “faster”.

@@kwilliams3161 it was a lot of fun. Cruising Main Street,picking a race and head out of town. I know it’s been basically 50 years, but times have really changed. If you could drive,9 times out of 10 the 4 speeds were faster. Don’t know how old you are, but in a great time now as far as powerful cars. These cars are ridiculously fast.

Those Michelin Pilot Sports on the Mustang are a great tire. I have the same on my Scatpack Shaker. ( 275/40-20 ) On the street, (the on board computer) manages a 4.7 zero to 60. Tire pressure at 40PSI !! 😲 I would love to see you do a comparison between the on board computer in the Scatpack with the Dragy.
