This 2010 Mustang has misfires and engine lights on. The problem is pretty obvious, rodents have been snacking!

The rodents thing is why all the farms including our own had dozens of cats living half-feral lives around the barns. It's pretty good hunting, and I don't recall any mouse nibbling on our tractors or other equipment :) The only thing the cats had some trouble with were the rats, but our farm dog probably got tagged in by the cats whenever they came across one, because they'd also get murdered about as quickly. If you have mice and rats, you definitely want to have cats and dogs living together.

Out here its field snakes that are left alone to quell the rodent population. I live right next to a big farmers field and the moment the weather cools down, the mice come running for the house. I know its strange, but I allow 1-2 black snakes to live in my basement and kill the mice during the winter. I then just scoop them up in Late February and take them outside and block off the basement. Its works well for the last 10 years - no mice.

Customers also have a hard time dealing with the cost. We work flat rate, a certain job pays a certain amount. Wiring repairs are considered "time-into" jobs and are charged the actual time into repairing. A seriously damaged harness could actually cause a car to be totalled by the insurance company if they cover nature damage.

as an experienced dealership mechanic. believe me most mechanics do not want to replace a whole wiring harness. but you have to remember for the most part you have to decide as a tech what will be the repair that i do that it never comes back. (you don't get paid to do the job twice) some times you try and be the nice guy or lazy and fix it like wes. his repair fixed it, but that doesn't happen all the time. and if the car comes back due to a coincidence or intermittent issue requiring now a harness replacement either by poor design or because two wires deep in the harness fused together etc. that you cant see, well now you are looking like a dope, and own it. as a tech you have to walk the fine line as to what is best for the customer and then you. after getting bit in the ass several times and learning through years of experience some times you have to just replace the whole thing. remember the mechanic didn't build the car the manufacturer did. the mechanic didn't come to your house and chew up you wires lol. the mouse did. all he is doing is trying to fix it

Hello Wes; A few years back I had the squirrels chew on the spark plug wires of my car. It barely ran. I had it checked out and found they got the rearmost plug wires. The guy was great and only charged 1/4th of what the dealer wanted. I acquired that peppery liquid they put around all the major food supply ware houses. That got rid of the squirrels and even stopped the local dogs from marking my tires. You might want to try that.

You may want to try bucket traps, Wes. I use them in sheds that are not mouse proof… it’s just a wooden ramp up to a bucket that has a horizontal wire going from one side to another and on that wire is a pop can lathered with peanut butter. The mouse goes up the ramp, steps on the can, which is not fixed to the wire, he rotates and falls into the bucket. You can put antifreeze in the bucket to speed up the process… you can catch a lot of the little devils with very little work.

Wes, I finally found a way to eliminate mice from my buildings and out of my vehicles parked inside. I'm not to far from you and live in a rural area as well. I feed the mice a 50/50 mix of Jiffy Honey Corn Muffin Mix and Baking Soda. I put it in a covered tubberware bowl with a hole in the side. The mice come in for a treat and their guts explode. Mice can't pass gass so when the dry mix hits their gut it's good night. I find them about 5 feet or so away from the bowl dead. The mix is safe for kids and pets as well. I've been fighting mice for decades and this is the first thing that really eliminates them.

Mice are just part of living in the boonies. When I moved away to college, it was actually hard for me to fall asleep in the dorm w/o hearing mice travel up and down inside the walls of our old farmhouse. Slept like a baby tho every time I came home.

I absolutely love living in the country! I don't, however, love all the rodents. Between the little bastards eating all the cherries and peaches off my trees to the invasion and nesting in every vehicle and piece of equipment, it's a constant battle!! But, it's STILL better than living in the city!! BTW...I still have that Suzuki 400 atv waiting for you!!

I expect mice hibernate in winter, but the early cold and snow has caught them unprepared. My cat I used to have would have loved it there. He always had a mouse, or bird, in his mouth. He even brought me a rat he had killed once. It was almost as big as him, and he was a 15 ponder. Looked like a miniature panther. This was in San Diego.

If anyone wants that wire threader tool he’s using, its MENDA 35250 Threader, Wire, for Harness, Orange. $8.59 at ama*zon rn. It’s actual use is to slip wires under zip ties and into an existing wire harness or loom.

The rats in NYC are NO JOKE. They've torn my electrical connectors up. So far, I've fixed my ECT connector, ECTS sensor, A/C connector and 1 chewed up sparkplug wire. I've popped my hood and have seen pieces of bones on top of my valve cover and stuff. Super frustrating stuff man. It ended in me on a nightly basis jacking up the front end of my car and dropping it on jackstands. That's the ONLY thing that's kept them out of my warm engine bay. It sucks I gotta do this consistently regardless of weather but it's the only thing saving my car. After watching this video, I don't feel as bad anymore LOL! Much love Wes, keep on wrenching brother!

A little tip you probably already know, you can wrap your tape around a small deep socket and use that to dispense the tape around the wire harness when the roll of tape is a little too big. And the rodent problem in a word........"poison." Poison somewhere where pets can't get to it and the little rodents can
