I absolutely love this song. I believe that the lyrics are about a guy who is in love with a girl who has died. The first line...If I had to, I would put myself right beside you...sounds to me like he is considering killing himself to be with her in the afterlife...put himself right beside her in the graveyard. If you see in the video, he is visiting her grave in the beginning of the song and the end. I think what is driving him mad is that he knows that Jane didn't love him during her life. He tries to fool himself by 'looking the other way' and burning the pages of the diary that are not about him, but there's a fine line between love & hate, meaning that when he allows himself to see that she didn't love him, he hates her. When he realizes that he is thinking about killing himself to be with the one he loves (even though she doesn't love him), he starts wondering what he has become, contemplating killing himself for someone who does not think he is special. "No love, There is no love Die for anyone What have I become?"

This is honestly one of my favorite BB song. Now I know the original meaning of the song but I’ve made like my own theory about it, so the Diary of Jane could also mean society as a whole and how we as human beings are trying to fit in with its insanely high standards hence the line, “I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane” and “tell me how It should be” but that last line could also be like sarcasm as in, “you know all the answers, tell me what I should be like” kind of thing. Society can make us lose ourselves if we try too hard. I know that’s a really deep and dark meaning but that’s the whole point about music, you can create any meaning you want. It doesn’t have to be just one way of thinking.

I really hate how this is the situation for so many families. Its like, what even is family anymore? I experienced that too where my brothers acted like my presence was the plague for years and yet now as adults division is still basically there in one way or another. You see most people base their core way of life and routine on what everyone else is doing and most peoples routine is self centered and shallow and based around getting money as the absolute first task, then some responsibilties they follow in order to not look bad or feel bad, then entertainment. Relationship is part of entertainment for them and not much greater then that, even though it could be much greater and involve a humble connection fueled mainly by love. They could even mutually find a way of life that brings them together, some kind of family/clan mission for a greater goal but for them its way outside what they would want to do in a day. They wouldnt dare waste precious TV time etc.... if this is more then you wanted to hear don't let me bother you. I was never this jaded but then I turned 28. Lol. Not everyone's situation ends up like mine. I must admit I am just venting on here so don't lose hope if you havent turned 28 yet 😅

I could debate that. John Cooper first has a natural rasp in his voice after 20 years of singing punk and alternative. Ben Burnley is an exceptional singer and definitely on the level of John Cooper, but Chester Bennington was in an entirely different league. Chester could pull off that rasp, but his vocal range is freaking insane and he can literally scream forever. I'm not even technically a 'fan' of Linkin Park, but I was crushed when I heard the Chester died because he was one of the best.

Breaking Benjamin is my favorite modern rock band. I’ll admit, there is not a single song on all of their albums I dislike or skip over when I listen to them on my phone or radio. Released on June 6, 2006, Diary of Jane instantly became a fan favorite and soared up the rock n’ roll record charts. It rapidly became Breaking Benjamin’s hit song off the Phobia album and would eventually become their most recognizable song. So let’s take a moment to analyze this song and to find the hidden meaning behind the lyrics. First, Diary of Jane is referring to a diary of a fictitious woman named Jane. There is no name for the male counterpart in the song, but we can probably assume it is lead singer Benjamin Burnley. Verse 1 starts off like this: If I had to I would put myself right beside you So let me ask you Would ya like that? Would ya like that? In these first four lines, a story starts to develop between the relationship of Jane and the male counterpart. It is clear he wants to be with Jane but is wondering if she feels the same about that inkling. And I don’t mind If you say This love is the last time So now I’ll ask Do ya like that? Do ya like that? No! The second half of verse one enters a new phase where he is asking Jane if her current relationship is her last love. At the end of verse one, he indicates that she may not be happy with her current situation much like him, and he is wondering if she feels the same about him. Something’s getting in the way Something’s just about to break I will try to find my place In the diary of Jane So, tell me How it should be? Chorus one indicates to the audience there is clearly something hindering a relationship between these two. Whether it is another individual, reason she will not date him or tension between the two, it is clearly on display that something is preventing these two from hooking up. However, he indicates in the second half of the chorus he is still trying to force his way into her life and wants to know how that can be done. Try to find out What makes you tick As I lie down Sore and sick Do ya like that? Do ya like that? The first part of verse two shows the audience that he is still attempting to figure out what this girl is like and it is consuming his thoughts even when he tries to fall asleep. Once again, he reiterates the same question, “[d]o ya like that,” which shows he is still self-conscious about her and if he will ever be good enough. The song ends with chorus two, which means this entire experience of chasing Jane did not work out and killed his emotions completely. However, he still wants her and will try everything to be with Jane even if it includes killing himself emotionally. Personally, I think this song is about a girl a guy likes but knows he will never have a shot with her for whatever the reason may be. Instead of moving on and realizing there is plenty of other options on the dating market, this guy is so consumed with chasing Jane that he loses sight of everything else around him. In the end, this whole experience has completely failed him but he is so obsessed with Jane that he will do anything and everything to be with her.
