That gave me chills. Plus, did you notice that not one of the ground personnel was working. They were all watching the Eagles.

The F-15 Eagle is one of the truly great and consequential aircraft in aviation history. For many years it was the dominant air superiority fighter jet---I believe its combat record is still perfect. The Eagle is visually awesome both on the ground and in flight. Its performance envelope is still world-class 44 years after its debut. The F-15 will continue to be a formidable weapon and a force to be respected for many more years. It is a technological marvel and a riveting sight.

A lot of commercial pilots received their initial flight training from the military, whether they flew cargo, tankers, bombers or fighters like this. Regardless, they probably would like to fly these if only for a short time.

Remember folks that the 737 has a higher cruising speed than the F-15 contrary to conventional wisdom.😀
@ericjones16313 жыл бұрын
Source? 737-900 is usually .78 or so, the eagle is usually .85 or so if I recall correctly
@ChrisZoomER3 жыл бұрын
@@ericjones1631 Source?! My uncle is friends with a retired F-15 pilot who now flies for American Airlines including their 737s. He says that airliners he flies such as the 737 fly faster and higher than the fighter jets like the F-15 he once flew. He said that when flying from base to base with no mission or purpose, the F-15 along with the F/A-18, F-4, F-16, F-35 and even the F-22 with so called “supercruise” plus many other fighters usually cruise between 400 & 500 mph unlike airliners such as the 737 & A320 family which usually cruise between 500 & 600 mph whereas wide-bodies such as the A330 & 777 cruise even faster still. I’ve asked many other pilots and other aircraft personnel, both civilian and military and they all verified this claim, saying the same thing. Again; like I said, what they say goes against conventional wisdom. I hope this helps somewhat👍
@ericjones16313 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisZoomER Thanks. I'm on the 330 right now and we cruise at .81 or .82 about 95% of the time. The 777 was faster (as is the 787), they cruise around .85. I pulled a current 737 flight plan and they fly .78 today for an hour and half leg. Looking at my F-15 -1 (flight manual) the charts show a best cruise speed to be roughly .85 (depending on drag factor/loadout). If you want to talk mph we need to convert it. Assuming 35,000 cruise altitude (optimistic for a heavy 737-900) .78 mach equals a rough ground speed of 516mph, .82 (A330) about 543, and the Eagle at .85 has a groundspeed of 562. If the F-15 is flying max endurance airspeed it would be slower, but comparing apples to apples for best cruise speed to get somewhere, the F-15 is a bit faster IMO.
@ChrisZoomER3 жыл бұрын
@@ericjones1631 You’re welcome. I will say that I don’t like to use the Mach system as much as others given that Mach 1 isn’t constant. Different sources may apply Mach numbers different, where Mach 1 is 660 mph at 35K but 760 mph at sea level so one source can say a plane flies at one speed while another source will say differently. I was told that the only time that fighters fly faster is when intercepting an enemy plane such as a bomber. I saw the Blue Angels one time cruising (not flying max endurance) to their next destination after completing an air show so they could perform another air show at their next destination, they were moving at only 300 mph😒 and I don’t think that the F/A-18 Hornet cruises much slower than the F-15 though I could be wrong. I also like to use airspeed over ground speed as TAS indicates how fast you’re moving through the air around you while GS doesn’t. Ground speed is how fast your moving relative to the ground and thus may be affected by winds so if you’re going against a heavy jet stream flying east to west, your airspeed will be faster but your ground speed slower. Vice versa applies if you’re flying with the jet stream from west to east. In the end, there’s so many contradictory stats on the internet even from trustworthy sources and many military stats are often classified so whenever I have a question, I go to someone who I know will know the answer. Thanks for the feedback😉👍
@ericjones16313 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisZoomER Mach 1 is actually a constant, in that it is always the speed of sound. The speed of sound does vary based on altitude, temperature, etc. So the reason we use the Mach system is because it is a constant ratio. In a climb we transition between IAS and Mach somewhere around FL290 (29,000). On a modern jet we can see all of it: mach, IAS, TAS, and GS. But we fly mach at cruise . Prost, off to FRA in my 330 tomorrow.
