Remington 870 :: Magpul Stock Set Install :: Musty Yeti

Well you guys asked for it and here it is. This is a short video showing how to install the Magpul SGA stock set on the Remington 870. All and all it went pretty smooth, there was a few hiccups here and there but that's to be expected. The shotgun feels much better in hand with the Magpul set installed. The grip angle on Magpul stock feels much more natural/ergonomic than the traditional stock. The Magpul MOE forend also feels better in hand, it's larger and with the ridges it's much easier to actuate. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for watching

Nice video, but you're making the foregrip install tougher than it needs to be. Just unscrew the mag cap, slide out the barrel, push the foregrip forward and start unscrewing the castle nut right there in place, slide off the grip and slide on the new one, tighten the nut, slide on the barrel and screw on the mag cap - done in 3 or 4 minutes.

Your video really helped me allot. Picked up my 870 today on the 4th🇺🇸😎 and immediately installed MagPul stock and forehand pump. Super easy to do with your vid and this gun vice I bought. Thanks for the info 🙏. Stealth Gray was my choice for color. Forehand was the only tough part as mine was so tight I had to use rubber hammer to get it though. Came out perfect 👍

I wanted to say thanks for posting this video. I was able to save up and get a Rem. 870 Express Tactical and I really love it. But after feeling the more expensive Magpul version I did missed out on how it felt. I decided to take the plunge and got the same set you have but kept it all black (personally sick of the flat desert tan after my Iraq tour) and I really love it! Only thing I would suggest is for users to get a replacement Remington 870 follower. Thanks again for the awesome video!

Amen. Like you I thought it was a bit pricey but as soon as you get it in hand you realize it was well worth the money. This stock is insanely comfortable, much more than the factory stock. You exactly right about the weight, you don't feel it. I had to mention that because some people are weight conscious, so I thought it would help.

This stock seems overpriced but when you get it in hand and install it and shoulder it up, you'll realize its worth it! Solid construction (as expected from Magpul). I don't know why people complain about the weight of stock. It is a little heavier than a stock stock but it doesn't seem heavy at all to me. It is perfectly weighted and balance. Switch to a 410 if a 12's too heavy for you!! Well worth the money people!!

When I went to remove the factory stock, I had a good set of hollow ground screwdrivers, but I couldn't budge the factory screw to loosen it, I finally had to rig up a screwdriver blade with a 1/4" drive ratchet wrench, and that thing fought me all the way, I swear the factory must have used red LocTite on that thing, it didn't loosen up till it was virtually all the way off! It was a real hassle, but I'm sure glad its over with and the MagPul is mounted!

I have a set of hollow ground screwdrivers, the bits are magnetically held into the screwdriver handle, the head of the bit is a 1/4" hex head. So I got a 1/4" socket, put the bit in the socket, then used an extension and a 1/4" ratchet wrench, this gave me the torque I needed to overpower that screw. Make sure the screwdriver blade fits the screw slot well or it will strip out. I had to use some tape to hold the screwdriver bit into the 1/4" socket, I padded the stock and put it in a vise to hold it while I unscrewed it. The gunsmith hollow ground screwdriver set came from Midway USA.

I just put my set on 2 weeks ago and chose to use it with no additional spacers. Maneuverability is way better than the factory stock. I can't see anyone using the spacers unless they have gorilla, knuckle dragger arms. :)

Well with those spacers it puts the length of pull at the same distance as the factory buttstock. I can't see anyone using the SGA stock without the spacers, it's incredibly short. I figured that was the best way to measure the weight, with the same length as the standard stock.

I have done this Forarm replacement and have never taken the guide slide assembly off ever. I remove the barrel, insert the tool and bang, you have removed the Forarm in 1.5 minutes, am I missing something?

Don't take my word as gold, but I was under the understanding that a fore end wrench is suppose to save you the trouble of disassembling the shotgun that far. Any one know if this is the case? (Great vid.)

You can't go wrong with either color. I just decided on the FDE so it matched my other guns. I don't think the orange is out yet but that looks sick as well.

Take off the cheek riser and it looks like you can get to the stock attachment bolt better

It's all personal preference. I have a friend that put the Magpul set on his hunting shotgun because the stock is more comfortable and provides a better cheek weld. Sorry I can't answer that one for you.

I'm pretty sure it's identical on both sides. You would think I would memorize these things but I don't. I know theres a hole on both sides of the stock to install Magpul's QD sling attachment point.

If you want the OD version get the FDE set and some Rite dye and do it yourself very easy other people have done videos on the process

Well it's Magpul, which is synonymous with durable. I didn't even know the stock set had a warranty. I honestly wouldn't worry about loosing the warranty, but that's just me.

Might be easier to tighten rear, buttstock screw after removing the (removable) cheek weld - to afford you more clearance for the allen wrench. Seemed to help with my install.

Most people add the Magpul stock to shorten the stock (ie, decrease the length of pull).

Well if you watch videos where people are on the other side the angles and lighting rarely look good. When you are behind the camera you put the audience at the same viewpoint as the person recording. It makes for a better video but it's harder to record.

You would not happen to know the length of the bolt that magpul gives you for the kit. I am trying to see if it at all will be possible fit it to a smith and wesson 3000. However it has a different thread, so I would need to find a similar bolt with this thread 8mm x 1.25
