Although I didn't specifically mention it in the review like usual, this is - as always - spoiler free. All story/cutscenes that I did show are from the very beginning.

Would you recommend this to somebody who finds XCOM 2 daunting?
@haasgaming
@haasgaming 6 жыл бұрын
@@kayleegregory770 Sure. It has a bit of a different focus, XCOM has far more depth and complexity whereas Mutant Year Zero more directly tries to tell a story/setting. There's definitely less pressure in Mutant Year Zero than in XCOM and the RNG is far, far easier to manage.

I had no clue this game was around because games are a dime a dozen now a days but let me just say why I purchased it. Because it had a demo!!! I guess im so old that I remember when ALL developers gave us a taste of the medicine before we could have the whole thing and that alone was a HUGE deciding factor for me

I'm a patient gamer and prefer to buy games when the full editions come out because I still have a ton of unfinished games How's the game doing in terms of sale? If it's successful, then I can hope for updates and DLC's in the future which will add to the game :D

Thats a smart way to look at it in terms of future developmemt. I too comsider myself patient. I have NO problem waiting yrs for a title to go on sale if I dont feel its worth the original asking price. This game is one of those VERY few exceptions simply because there was a demo available on Steam. The demo simply offered the entry/tutorial type level and it was enough to make me want to pay full price. Even doubly fortunate for me if the game went on sale today and it was a no brainer to pick up the game+DLC. Even if I hate the DLC im still happy I enjoyed the base game.

How’s replay value
@haasgaming
@haasgaming 4 жыл бұрын
Might be better nowadays, but not stellar when I reviewed it since you would get through most of the story in one go.

I thought the game felt like they just took xcom, removed 90-95% of the content, then added the 'real-time stealth' element and character banter. Campaign was also, as you mention, super short and has no replayability. The banter was good and all, and spending your out-of-combat running around in real-time sure feels *a lot* better than slowly moving one unit at a time like you do in games like e.g. x-com, but, at least to me, the (elimination aspects of the) stealth elements just felt like a tedious chore. You'd probably need to be real sick of Long War 2 to ever choose this over it, and even then the asking price for Road to Eden, when you compare the two, is imo. ridiculous. Game should've shipped with five times the content it currently has to justify its price, and even then it'd still easily be an inferior product.

I was going to buy it along with Subnautica on PS4 until I found out the developers, who implemented shitty DRM took the piss out of people critical of Denuvo and telling them the industry would be better off without them. Well, I still buy games on PC when they don't have DRM to tank my dated PC so fuck 'em. Not buying it.

I hope in the future, people can lay loose on these game as "xcom", this play style can be the future for turn base games. Just my opinion

I did. Granted, I'm no stranger to turn-based games but the challenge Very Hard had disappeared at least half-way through. It has an initial hurdle to get over, but once you familiarize yourself with the enemies and do a little basic math for your opening turn you can eliminate most of the difficult fights without much of a hassle. Combat was still fun enough from start to finish, but I wouldn't call it difficult.

@@haasgaming I was thinking the same about it on Normal.... Now that I have it down, much more confident. Like you said, the combat and exploration in this game is fire. Hope we get a more in-depth sequel.
