I don’t care what they say, this is the best Bounty movie ever made. A true masterpiece

The most spectacular, no doubt. My favorite even though overdramatic and rather far from historically accurate. The third - The Bounty - is much closer to the actual truth. But the young Marlon Brando is unbeatable here, even by the young Mel Gibson.

The scenes with Brando and Howard are utterly entrancing. I believe these two actors did dislike each other off-camera.

Brando tried to offset Howard's performance by deliberately fluffing his lines. In Marlon's defense, his little dirty tricks helped to create the required tension between the two. It's something Brando became notorious for but he did later apologize to Trevor for his sly tactics. Something that later inspired William Shatner to behave as an egotistical Captain to rub the cast of Star Trek up the wrong way which made for a great show.

The mutineers lives were not happy. Within 4 1/2 years all but 5 were dead. 3 drown in irons, 3 hanged, and 7 murdered at the hands of Tahitian men and themselves. In the next few years 3 more, a suicide, a sickness and an other murder. Only John Adams survived to old age. living on Pitcairn for nearly 40 years with 13 Tahitian women, and the children. Now there is a movie yet to be made.

Eric Peters the mistake they made was to start something and not finish it: they should have killed the captain and all others on his side, and they could have lived happily in some civilized island. Once you decide to climb over a fence, you can’t stop in the middle.

@@santhoshkumar-vd7jo at that times cruelty had totally different standards than today. just think about the Roman Empire, when it was fun for the regular citizens to go at the arena to see some people be eaten alive by the lions. That was a stupid move: obviously Fletcher was not a leader, and this is also the reason why they killed each other later on on the island. No leader, no order.

I'll be honest with you, I love all three big screen versions of this story because they were all very well cast for their time and the uniqueness of each take on the same story is fascinating. Laughton and Gable's brutish chemistry was amazing. One resilient brute vs another. Howard and Brando's more aristocratic "gentlemen's disagreement" take. And Hannibal Lector VS Mad Max arguing face-to-face about cowardice and bastardry. Obviously the '84 version was actually the most historically accurate and the 1935 version the least, but all three films are great movies.

Not me...I found Gibson's bugged eye snarling rage fest schtick to be a complete bore and at odds with Christians character...like he must have been practicing for Lethal Weapon and for that fact alone I can't even sit through it. The Brandon Howard version I watch end to end, my total favorite. Never saw the 1935 perhaps I'll give it a go now.
@colliric
@colliric Жыл бұрын
@@Prander5x5 it's the best version. But also the most historically inaccurate. Rhett Butler doesn't even bother doing a British accent at all and Charles Laughton plays Captain Bligh as a psychotic dictatorial brute who still suddenly turns heroic anyway in the epic boat ride to Timor. Still there's a charm to it that can't be beaten and it won the Academy Award for best picture due to how entertaining it is.

Instead of Pitcairn Island, id have sailed east to Southern California, which was part of Mexico and thus past of Spain back then. A land trek to Georgia, Kentucky or Tennessee would put them in the United States back then and there was very few amicable relations with the U.S. and U.K. back then

@@samojezni5093 if they did go toward then-Spanish California/Mexico, there was no love lost between the British and the Spaniards as they were on-off allies of Republican France and/or Napoleon back then so I doubt they hand them over to them. There definitely wasn't any love lost toward the U.S. and the British as the loss of the colonies and recognizing their independence was still a sore spot with many of the British powers-that-be and still fairly recent back then. The American government as it existed then probably would actively hide and protect the mutineers out of spite.

@@chrismc410 agree, but you have to think with mind of people living end of 18th century, beside, Fletcher was indeed snob, pissed off, because returning back to GB and leaving behind his sympathy on Tahiti Islands. Blight was actually his friend, made toghether many voyages. Christian just lost his nerves in very delicate situation and going back was to late. therefore he spent rest of his life in a Cave, near cliff, thinking why wasn't I reacting differently, stepping back or just kill them all. But than we would not had this interesting movie.

If I were in command of the bounty after a mutiny, I would sail to New Orleans. I hear it was a bit of a pirate hub in its day. I’d tell the French colonists that we are English defectors, sell the bounty and split the money with the crew, then we go our separate ways in America.
