I'd say the real test is yet to come. Right now he is in the being led around by food stage. The real demonstration of learning will new when he can follow verbal commands without any visible food showing him the way.

Muttias is a smart boy. I really like the grounds . Very well planned out . The foxes, horses and even a large area for Dakota. I sincerely hope each one of these animals either stays happy with you and where they are or else go to loving families who will guard them and make their lives enjoyable. They are such beautiful creatures. Fur farms need to be outlawed.

Muttias is very smart! He learns the obstacles quickly, quicker than most dogs I have watched at beginning agility classes. AKC eliminated the chute because some dogs would get tangled up inside and become confused. Enjoyed this video!

This is so cool!! ❤️ Have you ever done clicker training with the animals? Beyond dog training it was really developed working with non-domesticated animals like dolphins (see early work of Karen Pryor) & improving handling in zoo settings for vet care, enrichment etc...,. I hadnt thought about it til seeing this agility video but would surely work great with the foxes, and the cats, minks & even the squirrel! Good positive training is like building a house, you need a solid foundation & good toolbox. If youre patient & can get the timing down, clicker training can be a great tool to improve communication & motivation. Most pet owners just think it takes too much time, but its really the opposite in the long run- youre able to mark & encourage these small natural behaviors on a cue (like touch, target, up, etc..) then use them as building blocks to accomplish bigger tasks. It makes things like agility go much faster after you have basic directional stuff (like up, over, thru etc) on cue, & avoids frustration as they already understand what you want when presented with new stimuli/obstacles. In the end you have a dog (or fox) that has the skills & positive motivation to try just about anything... vs old school force methods that often just lead to frustration & shut down (for both handler and animal). Its been used successfully with everything from rats to tigers, and id be especially interested in watching it tried out with the minks too, as something i haven’t seen yet (mink agility!). Watching you work with the grey foxes is fascinating, theres so much natural variation in temperament i didnt expect between the fox types. Like in that video of Kipper & Dipper youd swear they were entirely different types of animals (that was adorable btw thnx ;) Re-Watching the last vid of you working on handling w/Nikita & Demika (sp?) made me think about clicker training too. Yes its used for agility & “tricks” but also a really good tool for behavior mod, especially with really sensitive animals. Building up better communication fosters more confidence & trust, which is a key building block to all sorts of progress 👍 It’d be very easy to start out with the more ‘domestic’ buddies like Finnegan, Muttias (& Skitzo?) to get the process down, youve already build good vibes & enthusiastic trust with them & they’d take right to it. Then start slowly with the more sensitive/wild kids like the grey foxes, mink etc...,. Might even be a way to speed up the initial process with the fur-farm newbies... or a doorway into more progress w/difficult cases- like Felix the tree fox? 🦊

Im clearly biased lol & clicker training isnt for everyone, but it just made such a huge difference in my progress working with complex rescue cases (dogs) and w/trainer friends (one is using it to do Alpaca Agility now & another is building puzzles for crows, so cool ;). This reminds me of my sisters Shelty, she was smart as a whip and looked like a fox 🦊 People generally don’t kill dogs and definitely not for their fir, so after watching this video, I just don’t understand how anyone could kill an animal that is so close to a dog, for their fir. Sadly dog fur has also commonly been used in times of poverty like wars or economic falls. In WW2 pretty much all of Japan's native dog breeds went extinct from the soldiers needing fur to keep warm.
