Nice video Brock! Those are some serious power gains for basic mods. I almost bought a GSX1000F, did plenty of research on those and every review and spec sheet says it's the K5 motor in those as well, same 73.4 X 59.0 bore x stroke. The K9 was 74.5 X 57.3.

No such thing as too much horsepower, but in a way, 165+ WHP is like...a lot for a non-superbike like the Katana, ha-ha. That's stock Hayabusa power. It's not the same bike anymore, ha-ha! The dyno charts clearly demonstrate that! You're a crazy man, Brock! Great work as always!

Identical gear ratios from the 2005 GSX-R1000. Seems ridiculous, since these are street bikes and those track gear ratios are among the absolute worst for street use (extremely tall 1st gear, 2nd through 6th stacked right on top each other, 6th gear running engine too fast with worse MPG).

Will be interesting to see how the GSX-S1000GT goes, since it's the Euro5 parts-bin cousin to this sweet little machine. Excellent improvement from the docile 139hp!
@exothermal.sprocket
@exothermal.sprocket Жыл бұрын
Seems the updated S1000 and S1000GT have about 8-10 hp chopped off the top. More than likely changed cams. Moore Mafia has done some tuning on them. Also, the examples he had in his shop were fitted with less than optimal exhaust headers (small ID). Things might be different with Brock's headers installed, but then again Brock's is about double the cost of other systems. Not complaining, it's R&D and overhead and materials, sales volume, etc.

Answering the specifics about gearing, I think the gear ratios and final drive ratios are the same between the GSX-S1000 and Katana (in the video). Assuming this to be true, I dug into the Gearing Commander website. 17/44 final drive ratio: @1,200 rpm (idle) 1st gear is 8.5 mph stock. @ 60 mph highway 6th gear, RPM is 4,203. @11,500 rpm (redline stock) 6th gear is 164.2 mph. 16/44 final drive ratio: @1,200 rpm (idle) 1st gear is 8.0 mph stock. @ 60 mph highway 6th gear is 4,466. 11,500 rpm (redline stock) 6th gear is 154.5 mph.

Gearing is just math...not so tough on the surface. The problem with answering "simple" questions on gearing is that most riders don't understand the variables involved. More Info: blog.brocksperformance.com/faq/what-is-the-best-gearing-combination-for-my/

I hope he got a good deal. My local dealer had one for a long time. The looks are either love or hate. My only issue with the new Katana is tank capacity. Here in Iowa most of the gas stations have crap gas and it is difficult finding stations with good gas every 100 miles. I would probably go with the GSX-S1000 with a bigger tank.

2020 GSX-S1000 runs 4.5 gallons. 2021+ GSX-S1000 increased to 5.0 gal. Katana runs 3.2 gallons. I know, ridiculous idea Suzuki. What were you smoking that day? Assuming 40 mpg between the Katana and the new 5.0 gallon tank S1000, over the course of 20,000 miles you'll be visiting a petrol pump 95 times more. Assuming 10,000 miles a year, you'll be stopping 47 times more at a petrol pump with the Katana vs. the S1000. I'm decent at math, those are spot on numbers.

That’s really impressive. I thought my MT10 was good for the price. Granted. You don’t have one on the same dyno. But most only get 14-150 from it. It’s a shame they didn’t slap the new gixxer 1000 in their naked. That would have had me looking. Or brought back the b-king.

The GSX-S1000 is based on the K5 engine. It was the big selling point. The Katana is exactly the same bike just with different clothes. The gsxs came first. The katana is just an attempt to make money off the katana name. I kinda want to buy your full exhaust and tune for my 2018 gsxs but I've got the arrow headers on mine now I'd have to sell that. True . But.. A smaller Counter shaft sprocket will put less stress on the counter shaft and moves the additional stress to the rear wheel sprocket and bearings. I would rather move any additional stress to the rear wheel and bearings and not the Counter Shaft and bearings/Engine. Dropping one tooth on the CS sprocket is the way to go as it also or should allow you to keep the chain the same length and not have to remove any links. Should is the key word there.
@BrockDavidson

@Tony, our business model is to create parts and info. focusing on new, late model machines. The Bandits are fantastic bikes for certain, but they are not anything we would create products for these days. I can tell you that we used to wake them up with 41mm flat slide Kehin's and occasionally dropped GSX-R750 slingshot cams into them for sizable power gains without disrupting reliability. As well as converting the clutch assembly to GSX-R1000 or Katana if the bike will see the drag strip. I will have my 97 Bandit forever also, so I feel your passion for them :)
