Just got a new CVA Optima V2 and now its time to find the perfect setup of this rifle. In the video I'm starting off with bore sighting then zeroing in at 100 yards. This is just the first step to find the setup I want. However, I would argue that it might be the most important.

For like $200 you get a muzzleloader with a bergara barrel and 3,500 foot pounds of energy decent range… I feel like CVA is the AR-15 of muzzleloaders!!! Way bang for your buck!!!

I love them!!! I have continued to beat mine to death with all of these test. And it just keeps asking for more. As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you.

@@blackpressurecartridgesolu9028 backyard ballistics has a good video but it’s a bit complicated. The specific powder needs to be carefully chosen. More problematic you need to have consistent seating depth. I just don’t think smokeless muzzleloaders are common cuz it’s such a liability. Most of the smokeless muzzleloaders look to me to be either overbuilt or designed for specific powder projectile combinations. But if my optima V2 pistol can handle 28,000-35,000 psi I would expect it to handle smokeless equivalent??? However unlike cartridges you have to “handload” (use that term loosely) on the fly.

@@danielcurtis1434 Savage Arms proved smokeless powder can be used safely, and accurately in a muzzleloader over 20 years ago. The loads on my DVD's are lower pressures than the Savage Load Data, but the same concept. One of the reasons smokeless powders have not been widely used in muzzleloaders is the brain-washing we have been exposed to. Corrosive powders sell muzzleloaders. If you saw the number of rusted out barrels in my gunsmith shop, you would see how the game works. The loads on these DVDs are the same or lower pressures than those produced by Blackhorn209.

I have same exact setup. This yr i went too a new scope. A Leupold Ultimate Slam ML 3x9x40mm scope. Last yr i was shooting hornady 250gr sst bullets. And 84grs of blackhorn by weight. It shot under a 1 inch at 100 yds. This yr i am going to try hornady 290gr bore driver bullets.

I just ordered the Optima today. Extends my season up here in Canada by a month. Generally to warm early on but it gives a week on the end as well. Pretty excited to get into it. How often would you clean the fire port in the plug?

That’s awesome I wish you luck!! It is part of every cleaning for me. At the range after 3-5 shots. After a hunting trip as soon as I get home. It’s too easy and too important not to. Thanks for watching.

Run a pre saturated patch followed by 2 dry patches between every shot and that will keep your accuracy more consistent I have noticed this wjth mine anyhow speaking from my experience I also after every 3-4 shots will fire just a primer to clear the chamber in the breech plug of any residue etc.

I've seen this bore sighting method deliver some way off impacts a few times because the scope mount holes are drilled/tapped off center or crooked in relation to the bore.

If is the case them your rifle will never shot right at distance. I bought an old 7mm that was tapped wrong. Even though I sight in at 100yards when I went for 200 the bullet push right and got worst at 300. If this happen I would sale it ASAP. Thanks for watching

I look forward to getting to BH209. I was able to find 2 jugs one older one at 10oz and the other newer at 8oz. I’m going through the pellets first then to the loose powders. As a reloaded I have to assume the loose powders would be more consistent. I have heard awesome things about BH209. Please have a look through my results as I work through the powders. And please if you haven’t please consider subscribing to the channel. Thank you for watching.

I am new the muzzleloader this next year I am going to try it out. I would some tip for muzzleloader
@suburbanhunt3653
@suburbanhunt3653 6 ай бұрын
The biggest tip is you don't have to spend a lot money for a good rifle. CVA Wolf are inexpensive and works great. If accuracy is name of the game then loose powder is where you want to go. In my opinion measuring by weight is more accurate then volume. If you do go pellets running 150gr (3 pellets) seem to always group better. Don't bother with any "muzzleloader specific" primers if you can help it. You better off with standard or mag primers. Federal 209A, CCI Mags, and Cheddites.. in that order I find work best. Lastly most muzzleloader shots are within 100 to 150 yards no need to break the bank on a scope focus more on the focal plane and glass quality. Muzzleloading is a lot of fun and adds yet another weapon in your hunting arsenal. I wish you the best of luck out there. Happy Shooting.

So having it sighted in at 100 you should be good from 25 to 100 yards?

What’s your process of cleaning between shots?
@suburbanhunt3653
@suburbanhunt3653 8 ай бұрын
I’ve gone to using Triple 7 foam. So remove plug, spray Triple 7 foam through both sides of barrel, let set for 30 secs, run 2 dry patches through( I use both sides of one patch), use a 50cal brush to clean crude ring and plug threads, run 2 dry patches (again I use both sides of the same patch). Then I clean both sides of the plug, then use the flash hole cleaner to make sure flash hole is clear. Place a little plug grease on plug and install.

So u sighting this in at 100 ? What cross hair are you using to sight it in for 100 yards ?
@suburbanhunt3653
@suburbanhunt3653 Жыл бұрын
The Scope is the Konus Pro 275. The manual states to sight in center cross hair at 100 yards. There is a mark above the center cross hair and that’s meant for 75 yards. Then below the center cross hair is 125 to 275 in 25 yards increments.

@@Everythingoutdoors902 - the pie plate is still the OG way of testing placement. We even have a 12” steel gong at the camp at 100 yards. Every time someone misses they shot the gong. If it hits, they messed up. If it misses they have equipment issues. The old timers still got it right.😜

Get loose triple 7 it’s three sane price as pyrodex sometimes $1-2 more. Unless they don’t have triple 7 I don’t understand why anyone buys pyrodex???
@suburbanhunt3653
@suburbanhunt3653 7 ай бұрын
I will definitely be testing the loose triple 7 both FFG and FFFG. The only reason I haven’t up until now is because a Muzzle loader just started and I focus on Blackhorn 209. As a real loader, I lean more towards the loose powder and their available consistency. I weigh all my loads out to ensure the best accuracy of each load. I do look forward to testing loose triple 7. Thank you for watching.
