How are we not celebrating this. I am not SNP or Yes voter, but this is great for the Port and Greenock community. For the Clyde, and for Scottish shipbuilding. Same with the new huge Navy ship building Hall . Being built in Govan. Plus the massive yard in Rosyth.
@typhoon28273 ай бұрын
At a guess I'd say we're not celebrating it because it has been an absolute shit show. Has it been built in Northern England, this ferry would be in its third year of service.
@YARROWS93 ай бұрын
@typhoon2827 It has been a shit show bud. But it is, what it is. The SNP have been found out to be as corrupt as the Tories. Giving big contracts to donors with our money. Let's celebrate twi Scottish built vessels though. However late.

Some people are remarkably delusional. Years late and many times over budget. Now watch it be totally unreliable when it goes into service! Meanwhile in Turkey additional ferries for Calmac are being built on schedule and on budget. Speaks volumes about how the UK is already a second world country, soon to be third world and irrelevant.

Brilliant video! Well done, and many thanks! (When I was small, watching old film of liners and warships being launched, I used to think that the ship was just balanced precariously on the slipway, and the hefty lady in fur coat and tiara knocked it into the sea with the champagne bottle!)

Heaviest launch on record for Fergusons - 3000 tonnes. That must have been touch and go with the strength of the wind - I was up at Parklea with my dogs and the wind strength significantly increased within the next hour - just before the launch I was watching swans swimming about right next to the sea wall - an hour later no chance ! Waves breaking and overtopping. They may have had to postpone if it was later .. great to see the launch and hopeful for the ships and the yard going forward

There is something dramatic about seeing a ship going down the slipway and taking the plunge into its "natural habitat". Great to see a ship being launched like they used to be instead of being put together in sections and floated out. Nice footage.

After being saved from closure in 2019 by the Scottish government. Unlike many other shipyards in the UK that have closed. Ferguson marine the last shipbuilding yard on the lower Clyde is still open and employing 400 people in Inverclyde. Ferguson marine still has some work with Glen Rosa, it also has some work from the ministry of defence. Ferguson marine and the Unions are lobbying for the Scottish government to give Ferguson marine the contract for ten smaller ferries that the Scottish government is going to order.

Sad to say, if FERGUSON MARINE was your family pet, you'd be taking it to the local vet to have it put it out of its misery. For POLICAL reasons, Scottish taxpayers were seriously MUGGED for 100's of mi££ions - but there's no money to repair potholes on roads. ☹

Why are the thrusters above the water line, is the ferry just a empty shell. Thrusters don’t work if they are not below the water line.
@JimGDMAC3 ай бұрын
She was launched with a lot of internal fitting out still to do which will add quite a bit of weight bringing it down to the waterline. The launch weight has to be kept down to the minimum to allow her to move more easily down the slipway, too much weight would possibly stop her moving needing a push by hysdraulic rams to get her in the water.
@Pennyburn16886 күн бұрын
Giving more money to Nikla's Ferguson project is madness. Billions of pounds have been washed down the Clyde already, when you include lost tourism opportunities, replacement ferry hire, foreign welders and alternative travel costs to name but a few.... The yard could well go burst before new burning, plating/bending facilities are built. These could have been put in place several years ago when new facilities were invested in...... Bungle after bungle will continue with a wee lassie in charge who knows nothing about how the industry and it's workforce behave!

But it’s not something to be proud of a ferry that’s five years over term and 100’s of millions over budget and let’s face it if you were wanting a ship built you’d stay a million miles away from Fergusson Marine what a blight on the Scottish taxpayer and hopefully it’ll be shut down soon to save us all paying to keep it open

The ferries are late and over budget, but in that time we had covid, the torys crashing the economy and, as anyone in the engineering sector knows, eye watering raw material price rises. Thisis ultimately what success looks like. These guys have worked through the tough times, they haven't given in to uk media daily onslaught, they havent closed the doors. Theyard is still there and Scotland nowhas two working ferries. Lessons will be learned and going forward it would be great to see these contracts being kept on these shores. The torys and labour would have xlosed this yard, then what would Scotland have?
