Rejoice! First trial berthing and in-service sometime in 2025? BUT…..MV Alfred was ordered years later than the Ferguson duo in 04/17 and has been in service for over 5 years, costing just £14.5 million to build, using 60%+ less fuel = 60% less emissions than conventional ferries like G Sannox and has a crew of 13, not 31. She has a much lower superstructure than G Sannox, so is able to operate in worse weather conditions. How happy would Arran residents have been if 4 MV Alfred’s had been ordered for the Arran route in 2017,costing £60-70 million in total and all in service within 2 1/2 years of being ordered? The running costs of 4 catamarans in fuel and crew would be less than for the two Glens, with a combined single-trip capacity of 384 cars, compared with 254 for the Glens - providing actually what Islanders wanted - a more frequent ferry service!

If only the Scottish Government had used common sense back at the design stage & used efficient diesel engines & not pointless dual fuel which caused the build costs to sky rocket & ridiculous delays.
