Here’s a little info for u: 1. Mamamoo is a group consist of 4 great vocalist: Solar the leader with strong vocal, Moonbyul the rapper, Wheein the honey vocal, and Hwasa the maknae with sultry husky power vocal. 2. This MV that you are seeing is the 1st Solo Mini Album project of Hwasa, the youngest member of Mamamoo. She is basically everyone’s baby but when perform on stage, she owns the stage because of her stronf presence. Not just her, the whole mamamoo always own the stage and the audience cause they are really great in singing live and perform 3. This year, each of the member has/will have their own solo project. Moonbyul started 1st with full album Dark Side of the Moon, followed by Solar with single Spit it out, and now Hwasa with Maria mini album. We are still waiting for Wheein solo project this year. 4. Mamamoo is above the tier in term of vocal and creativity and each of their songs always has background story on it. Maria too. 5. Maria is Hwasa’s christian name and she has it tattoed on her back neck since long ago. 6. The background story of this MV is basically about herself, where she expresses how she has suffer from al those keyboard warriors (haters that mostly come from toxic fandom of other kpop group) whose insecure cause mmm growth are significant and hence took the manipulative ways of throwing hates on them especially on Hwasa. She said how she got indigestion from receiving their hates but what can she do.. does she actually serve them (food) with all those hates they throw? She comes to the situation where reaching top success comes with extreme pain, hence you see the crown made of nails she was about to put on her head in the MV, also to the point where she feels numb and overwhelming of everything, hence the scene in perhaps asylum and she’s wearing white strait jacket and many sharp pencils (critics etc haters throw on her) try to attack her. She probably also think about self harm, hence the scissor on her hand), but she manages to escape all those. It’s like saying she killed the old hwasa and reborn as Maria. And in the end she realizes she’s not alone because even if the whole world hates on u it doesn’t matter when you have some few people who really love you wholeheartedly and cheering up on you in every situation and those people are her members. It’s like saying mmm has saved her life. 7. I’m getting too long with nbr 6, forgive me 😊🙏🏻. So here I will just recommend you to watch some mamamoo MV: Egotistic, Gogo bebe, HIP. Also solar solo Mv: Spit it Out. Then watch their live stage performance in MAMA 2018 and MAMA 2019. Also watch Hwasa open up for Dua Lipa in MAMA 2019 and she also perform her song TWIT on the same stage. That’s all for now.. still so many stuff can give you more understanding about mmm and why they are so different from the rest of kpop industry but you can learn those later. Hope you like my explanation and decided to give some tries to mamamoo and their solo project. The key is: you will realize their god-tier vocalists and performers when u watch their live performances but then in real life they are very crackhead and don’t care about having to put full make up all the time etc. they are most comfortable with no make up, oversize shirt and pyjamas, and they are not afraid showing up like that, also they express how they play around, get tipsy, laugh so hard with each other but going shy when meet external people, which is uncommon in kpop industry where everything is about maintain idol’s image. Mamamoo was first known to the world through a singing competition show called Immortal Songs 2, where they would sing songs from legend Korean singers and compete against other singers. Since Mamamoo just debuted, they won against a lot of their senior idols which is why they got famous right away. However, despite being known, they weren’t as popular bc their company was a newly set up company with low budget. But because of their hardwork and dedication, they’re the reason why their company are well known. MAMAMOO represent their agency, RBW. & as for Hwasa, she had been criticized for her looks her entire life, especially while being in the group. People even started petitioning against her to get her out bc she was thick and tan and they didn’t like her looks. But she remained first with her believes and that’s why she’s known as the Queen of Queens. In 2018, Hwasa got trended for her red latex outfit she wore during an award show MAMA 2018. There were many bad and good reviews too. Her thick figure cause controversy but hey, she looks AMAZING! Now, she finally releases her EP called “Maria” who is her alter ego. She recently had many depressive series in her life and this album talks about it. During her comeback for Maria, she injured her back and wasn’t able to perform at KCON alongside her group. But because she still had to promote her comeback, she’s now on these live shows performing while having an injured back. She’s truly amazing. Do check her out!

Thanks for reacting. here is what i gathered a. maria is her catholic name so this song is basically a song for her and how haters are bringing her down regarding her looks (because she is tanned compared to other Korean), her figure (because she is curvy while Korean beauty standard is thin)... B. the 1st scene is her suicide scene where she killed her self and all reporters are taking the photo of the scene for the buzz and in her funeral, u can see no one showed up C. the half brain half heart meal in the dinning table represent that she is giving them (the fans and the haters) everything she has or that they are heartless and mindless and the fact that they are covered by hood show that they are hidden behind their computer screen D. the bath with the milk in it represents how she was trying to whiten her skin by bathing in milk water to fit into the beauty standard E. the mental institution part shows her struggle and how mentally exhausted she is F. the pencils pointing at her show all the hate she received G. the crown represent how she was crucified by the pubic (taking reference from Jesus Christ) or how popularity in the public is double edged sword H. her friends at the end coming and giving her flower show that she is able to keep going because of her friends (team members) finally she is telling herself, don't be sad, u are beautiful just the way u are FYI she wrote and composed this song herself

Hwasa said Maria is the crystallized tears and sweat that she shed. The MV starts with a crime scene, Hwasa is dead and people are still trying to take some shots of her. A red hair Maria (an alter ego after Hwasa baptismal name) is watching the scene careless. Hwasa funeral, only empty chairs with invitation on it and with its back turned, nobody cares like she says in the lyrics. Here an homage to the most beautiful and powerful scene in Malena movie, with all those men offering their lighter to her. Malena is the most beautiful woman of a SMALL village (it can be a comparison to South Korea restricted mentality), because of her looks and her solitary state, she is an object of lust for all the town's men and of hatred for its women…after many vicissitudes and a very hard time she understood that her beauty is her salvation. So she cuts her black hair and dyes by red her hair, changing her attitude as well. We can clearly see a difference among Hwasa and Maria, both in outfits and attitude. In the table scene we can see a bloodstained Maria with rubber boots and a pretty simple outfit at a table with people all dressed up, they're keyboard warriors. Again lyrics "You all worked hard hating. If you knock me down. Does that feed you?" She's serving them with all sort of things. The table is full with jewels, trove of tapes, mics, cds, diamonds…but they're just looking at those picky. Maria with a bored face is watching them and then she starts happily eating a brain. The difference among Maria and those people is so strong and impactful. I've also read that eat someone's brain means pester someone. The triangular tub is also interesting, she's bathing in milk and rose petals like a Queen and her skin is so white, but once again she looks bored and then she starts to make 'no' gesture with her finger with a smirking face. Like 'I don't need to be pale, I'm beautiful like this'… probably a references to all hateful comments she gets about her bronze skin since ages. We're back to Hwasa, she's trapped like in a mental hospital with a straitjacket, all her body is constrained by laces…this once again can be interpreted as the restricted South Korea mentality. They're monitoring her, pencils (comments) are pointed at her and she is trying to escape from this kind of net (network) until she finds a crown with diamonds and nails (representing the double faces of success). Ink-stained hands Hwasa decides to wear the crown, She got ink on her hands while fighting malicious comments, in fact we can see her beating her fists on the ground and shouting. The triangular tub is back but this time we can see Maria and Hwasa looking at each other through a bloody water. A triangle is a figure linked to different trinities like mind, body & spirit; past, present & future; thought, feeling & emotion and creation, preservation and destruction. And, personally, all those fit this MV perfectly. And now we discover Hwasa was not dead at all. Like it was all a dream, in fact she's on a coach with scissor in her hands, she is alone with her thoughts when suddenly Mamamoo members appear with big smiles. She said many times Mamamoo are her strength and she was able to face difficulties since trainee period only because they were together. The whole lyrics are beautiful and powerful but sad at the same time. She said this is an exciting yet sad song, she likes those kind of songs because they resemble life. With this album Hwasa became the first Korean female solo artist to reach #1 on iTunes US. She co-wrote and co-composed 4 songs out of 6 of this album…an amazing album with powerful collaborations, a Queen like always.
