Joseph Martinez In Korea, it is not the same. At all. A good example of this is 2AM, they are not considered K-Pop despite having popular songs. They are considered K-Ballad. Another example is BIGMAMA. BIGMAMA was extremely popular, but were always considered KR&B divas. How we do it in the West is not how they do it in Korea. In Korea, KPop is referred to as Gayo, however, artists and their releases are always categorised under Gayo > Hip-Hop or Indie > Hip Hop no matter how popular they are. EDIT: Also, The Beatles were considered Pop artists because later on, they had music that included predominantly pop influences. So, yes. They were considered Pop/Pop-Rock because of that. That is not the case here.
