Love the idea of the reMarkable2. My challenge is that I move between paper note-taking and typing on my computer, and I'm interested in being able to move more fluidly between these note-taking styles - plus have less paper floating around generally. But I think I will wait til 1) integration with other office tools improves, 2) price comes down. Agree that it's a bit bogus to sell the marker separately. Thanks for the review!

Good review. I’m a writer-artist and I’ve been looking for a tablet/enotebook that does exactly what this tablet does. I don’t want any other features, I just want a notebook that is digital so I don’t have to go through so many chunky notebooks for different purposes. My workstyle is to sketch and make quick drawing drafts alongside my writing, so the built in drawing software actually looks perfect to me. It replicates the experience of sketching with nothing but a black ink pen, and that’s what I need on a notebook. But the price doesn’t include a pen or cloud integration which makes it seem overpriced for what it does. In fairness, I know the original model used to be $600-700 so $400 for the 2 is a respectable cut. I think I’ll still hold off on buying given the information you shared, and wait for a new model. Or possibly a new brand that does what reMarkable does, but I doubt it, it’s too niche haha None of the competitors interest me since I am not looking for an ereader.

As a hobbyist artist I would say that even though this is nowhere near as robust as obviously a dedicated drawing tablet experience could offer and definitely will never hold a candle to the star that is an iPad, that is not at all it's function or intention. I find the Remarkable 2 to be an excellent sketching companion as if I was carrying around a sketch pad and using pen or pencil to practice perspective and other random doodles. The Remarkable 2 did wonders for me because I would carry several notebooks with me in a messenger bag for fiction work, mental health, practical notes, journaling, and a sketch book. All of these were completely consolidated into a single, sleek, lightweight and very cozy tablet that has been worth every penny.

You know there's pc and mac software to get everything on and off the remarkable, right? The real downer to the machine is how they introduced/'upgraded' to subscription service after many of us bought the device and are now basically waiting for the sunset provision to come into effect where the machine we bought is no longer the one we own without paying ransom subscription. That said, your artist friends maybe weren't looking at the remarkable as what it is for an artist: an infinite sketchbook. It's not designed for finalized drawing, just like it's not designed to be a typewriter or desktop publishing, it's for notes and notes for a writer is the same thing as sketching for an artist.

Recently I've experienced a real showstopper of a problem with my reMarkable 2. When taking notes my hand has brushed over the surface and before I've had a chance to do anything, part of my notes have vanished - not just those that I'm writing but a slew of earlier notes further up the page too. As I have sync enabled with my desktop app, they immediately vanished there too. I contacted customer support but they said there was nothing that could be done to recover the content. As a business user, no back-up is a real problem and I'm forced to find an alternative. Other than this I have enjoyed the experience.

I got one secondhand. I love it. Am nearing the end of my notebooks and I don't want to continue using notebooks. The storage thing must have heen an issue from previous software because I can add my cloud account and import and export with no issues and there wasn't any payment request to add them. Like that would have been odd. The quality of the notes when i read them on my phone is also not an issue. The notes are vectorize so it doesn't lose quality when i zoom. Like i think a lot of people are shocked by the price and everything being sold individually. I know it was for me when i went to their website a few weeks ago to see how much I would have to save up and saw that it would total to nearly $600 for the tablet, basic pen and case. I got it for 1/3 of that secondhand so I have no complaints. I knew it was only going to be a writing device so I wasn't looking to shell out that kind of money.

I bought the Remarkable2 during lockdown. I use it every week still after more than 2 years. However, I just purchased the Boox Ultra tab C for several reasons, including: the fact that the Remarkable2 does not have back lighting has really limited it's usefulness as an ereader, and I find myself doing more reading of ebooks on my phone; I feel like my notes are locked into the remarkable tablet and that getting them to Word en masse is a chore; I haven't accepted the idea of paying monthly for syncing; and, finally, the Remarkable2 is just too slow, esp. for the price I paid for it. I will say, though, that I always liked the Remarkable2's form factor. I bought one for my daughter for school and she loves it. I am kind of sad that remarkable haven't figured out how to keep their customers.

@@leza4453 well, I like it a lot. I have the remarkable app installed on it so all the notes and files that I have created with the Remarkable2 are accessible on the Boox Tab Ultra. I like that it's e-ink so the battery lasts a lot longer and as you said it's a single purpose device so you don't get distracted but....for 600€ for the whole package you can get iPad 10 and for extra 120-150€ you can get an Apple Pencing that has miles better OCR, app support with various note taking, drawing, cloud sharing, eBook reader etc. apps. If it was around 300€ only for the whole package then I might actually consider but for 600€ you can get WAY better tech for what Remarkable is trying to do.... Maybe in few years when e-Ink gets better and cheaper then someone might create a cheaper but still good enough device for note taking.

ReMarkable2 piqued my interest due to the sheer amount of ads they blasted on my social media (currently using my iPad Air for note taking, markups to PDFs, etc.) Having said that, your review was a huge eye opener on what you can actually and REALISTICALLY expect from (un)ReMarkable. What a cash grab from the subscription price for google drive or Dropbox support? Which then doesn’t actually fully translate the markups or notes when transferring back to PC or any other e-device medium. Apple also charges a hefty price for its pen but damn SMH on having to gingerly carry the fragile pen around in a separate case? pfff. And no ebooks? WHAT ARE U GUYS ON?? hard pass.

I've wanted a Remarkable since I saw the first ad around 8 years ago. I was so excited when I finally had the spare cash to buy one, but one month of actual use and I've returned it. If you're going to focus on note-taking and have no other functionality, it had better be perfect, and it isn't. The mediocre handwriting recognition, lag, subscription fee, the fact the notes are stuck on the device and fuzzing around the corners mean it just isn't what it claims to be.
@zekimertbarut8 ай бұрын
Many outdated and/or slightly wrong information in the video: 1) A dropbox or google drive integration does NOT cost you 8€ a month, basically I pay only the connect subscription (RM cloud) for 2.99 € a month, and the other cloud sync comes for free. I think it would still be free without the connect subscription. 2) The handwriting recognition is bad, yes, but they are NOT sending you your converted notes via email. This something that I heard for the first time! 3) You can write tiny as hell with reMarkable, just use the thin fineliner marker. With my tiny handwriting, I basically can squeeze a whole lecture notes of a semester in 10-12 pages max. 4) You can draw fantastically if you are into charcoal drawing. For fancy illustrations, stick to iPad for sure. The 'real' setbacks are: 1) Magnetic sensitive display - place your airpods or your phone on the tablet, and your writing sensitivty is distorted for a loooong time 2) Fragile marker plus: Drop your 130 $ Marker plus once and its tip is broken beyond repair. 3) Fragile covers. The book folio and the type folio gets worn out in a few months 4) Stupid updates. Some including nice features but many of them has changes in the UI, and bring some new bugs while solving others. So you want to stick to the latest OS version and shut down the automatic updates. If you decide not to buy RM, do it for the real reasons.

As a replacement for an initially included one, I could understand, but as it is only sold seperately feels a bit like buying a car where you have to buy a steeringwheel too. Furthermore, I'm wondering, does the reviewer use the tablet bc of its benefits or just bc he bought it. Thanks for the review!

Well, the Apple pencil does cost a third of the price of a basic iPad. Maybe it’s a trend now?

I had wanted this for a while, ended up getting a Galaxy s6 lite tab instead. Came with the s pen and case and is more capable than this. Also half the price!

Great review for a disappointing product, I really thought it can compete with the note taking app in my iPad but it seems it still has a lot more fixes to make until it’s usable.

Can you not just, you know, plug it into your PC and transfer stuff over?

I write a LOT of notes on paper , like literally tend to have 4 or 5 different note pads on my desk because I measure jobs for a cabinet company and the most efficient way to collect information on a job site is to simply write it down or draw a quick sketch of a layout and write down measurements . all this I tend to bring back to the office and have to then type into an email and sometimes scan the actual paper notes for the drawings to send over to design so I thought this would be an ideal tool for me. but if it is not easy to move the information around then that defeats the purpose. I think I will likely send it back but they do allow you a free trial period where you can send back risk free so I guess thats good. If I can find a way to easily get my sketches into a form that is sharable I might be the perfect user for this product. but yeah if I can not easily share things it is useless.

i advise you to get a supernote A5X or one of onyx boox devises which are way better for you who like to write things down... I prefer the Supernote though that is more minimalist : it outperform boox devises for writing and reading, but nothing more)
