I love the Tesla. Once you beat it in you have a very dependable disc with a ton of control. I had an old fission one too which had a lot of turn. More similar to a Dynamic Discs Escape.

I’m really digging this disc. Now that I know it’s pretty much a 0 3 or 0 2 disc it’s great. I love it on backhand and it’s even better on forehand.

For me a disc with a 9 5 -1 2 is made to have some turn in the mid flight and then act Overstable toward the end of the flight when thrown flat. -1 representing the mid flight and a 2 representing the end of the flight.

Every Tesla I ever owned had a lot of glide with some fade. It's like a Terra but less stable with more forward push. Also, flight numbers scales are different between manufacturers since there is no official standard.

If you want a Tesla close to -1,2 get a mid/low 160’s fission.

When you threw it flat it flew like a 9 5 0 2. It went straight most of its flight and had substantial fade at the end.

I just have one in plasma... It is really close to my neutron terra which is a 8,5,0,3. I think mvp drastically overstates their glide numbers.

Agreed. I love how it flies. It’s a disc that will fit in between a Teebird and a Firebird nicely. Which is a disc spot I really love to have in my bag.

If you want a true 9-5-1-2 disc try a millenium orion long fade in sirius plastic, one of the best control drivers ever made!

Tesla Numbers have needed an update for years. A fresh Tesla is more Thunderbird than CD2/dynasty or Escape. And I stopped bagging firebirds because i can usually cycle in a Tesla that's close to as OS

Ive had probably 6-7 runs of Tesla over the years and they definitely come out of the box fairly stable more like a 9/5/0/2.5 but they beat in nicely to the that -1/2 and just stay there. But I definitely see people throwing them and are surprised by the stability they have.

I think the 2 things that impact flight numbers most are: 1. Measurements: manufacturers think that certain KPI's are associated with certain flight patterns. 2. What sells: Some flight numbers are going to sell better than others. ie. A 5 speed will probably sell better than a 4 speed.

my "Theory" (based on a few educated comments and personal observation of discs like me 4103 and 3103 Pig's)... Plastic goes a long way to change the path from design to fact... And I think it's a lot to do with how the top plate stretches/shrinks once out of the mold... which in turn folds the rim up/down. (My pigs are quite different, the 4103 rim appears rolled out (shrunk top plate) pulling the lower lip out more, increasing the rim height.. The 3103 more domed top plate (at least just at the outer thumb groove) and a curled under rim.. but due to where the top "pops" the overall effect is the same height discs both with a flat lid. My Tesla (Cosmic Neutron I guess.. can't find any dry grass/pink matches in google to figure it.. and it was a swamp find Lab 2nd so no labels)... anyhooze, it is dead flat, making the parting line very high, yet the new Plasma my 'Disc Bank' has on his shelf is domey and a curved down parting line. Interesting note:.. Domey USEUALLY means more flippy... but not always (And I think that's due to how the dome actually affected the rim). I have a RPM Kotare that is a more dome than a 50's UFO... yet is more Beef than a whole Cattle ranch. I'd rate it as a 2, 4... and I don't mean a -2, 4.. this thing pulls out of my hand thrown 45deg anhyzer and is almost immediately flat and headed for the carpark.

The streamline lift flies like 9/5/-1/2 more than the Tesla. Tesla is like a firebird lite in my opinion.

I have Lifts that are definitely 9 5 -2 1, and get flippier when they beat it. It’s a great disc. Love the Lift. I would like to have a more stable lift than what I currently have. What plastic is the Lift going to be the most stable in?

@@PartTimeDiscGolf cosmic neutron. Pretty reliably overstable plastic. I’m sure in glow it would be even more overstable. Only downside to cosmic neutron for me is I can never find it haha

Means it will probably beat in nicely. Good call out on the shape though. You would think it would look and fly similar to a valkyrie, but the shape and flight are definitely more than just 1 turn different.

It’s a great disc, just not the 9 5 -1 2 I was expecting. This should really be more of a 9 5 0 3. But, for faster arms it probably is a -1 2. 🤷‍♂️

My guess is, the disc went thru an approval process, I don't believe they can change what the disc is "labeled as" unless they went thru another approval process. Course we know different runs of the disc can produce different flights. Like the Firebird for example, I don't think they had to go thru another approval process for the Sexton Firebird. I wasn't involved in the process, nor do I fully know how all that works. I just know what they test from Stokely's vid about how the approval process works. I don't think they mentioned this question, but it's something to geek out on for sure.

Parting line is really just one characteristic for stability. The turn comes from the shoulder mostly as turn away from the spin direction comes from air moving over the top of the disc and has little to do with the parting line. Dome can sometimes affect turn, but more often it affects glide. Lat 64 puts a ton of dome on their discs and perhaps those do have more glide. The one thing with the gyro is if it spins at the spin speed to generate the flight numbers, it’ll glide to the flight numbers. Thanks for the reviews, it always helps in deciding to buy by seeing people throw!

"-1 2" discs won't hold an anhyzer for long. Not unless you are throwing with ungodly power. The Tesla is a good disc, but it's eclipsed by the Lat64 Saint, with 9 7 -1 2.

This is the thing about MVP. If they would just have a good teebird/explorer/fd1 mold it would be great. Crave is straight and servo isn’t consistently enough OS. Then the volt and everything else are too OS

I have a solid black tesla in neutron plastic. Its so overstable, and I can not get it over 200 feet. It flies as if it were 9/5/0/3.

@@Soupkid91 standard run, very slight dome, 172 grams. Have tested max weight standard fission, neutron and plasma. Neutron was most stable, then plasma, then proton and then fission (fission was more overstable in the beginning but beat in real fast) Really love the proton for hyzer flips

I have a sparkly clear proton tesla that I retired and had Simon sign simply because I wasn't going to throw it after figuring out it wasn't going to be the neutral control driver I was hoping for. It flew consistent overstable for me. Which is fine, but not what I was looking for. THen you watch Simon throw these new Hummingbird Teslas in some vids and they are bombing with really late flip up. It's why when he was at Discmania his flight videos were useless for us mortals to figure out how a disc would fly. Dude just has a natural cannon. Amazing to watch in person at an event, but unrelatable.

I haven't bagged any disc because of any pro in about 10 years, for that very reason. I do have overstable discs in my bag, but I throw what feels good to me. I bag only 3 molds that are commonly used by pros and only one mold in my bag is anyone's signature disc. For some reason the overstable ones that I throw are thrown only by couple of pros. Used to throw farther when I was younger and had more the same molds, but not amymore. Fun to watch the videos though.

​@@kimmomatikainen1843 Totally understandable. I bag what works, but I buy for any number of reasons--from chasing the next distance myth to a disc being pretty to wanting to support a pro. The way I see it, every disc I buy is at least 2 beers I don't drink. So it's healthy! As to Simon, he'll rip this Tesla like it's a flippy 7 speed, but he's got such amazing form that he'll grab a Pixel and toss it nearly as far even though it's a domey neutral putter. What you and I need to be on the lookout for is that Innova Gorgon. I'm hyped to grab a GStar 168g and see some flip-up and turn!

The tesla is a nice disc - but it looks like this flies similar to the previous runs - which is nothing like a -1/2. It's more stable than the wrath, which is a 0/2. I think 0/3 is pretty reasonable.

Good to hear. This was my first Tesla experience. This was also a 167g. So I wasn’t expecting it to be this stable. Now I know. I feel like if it beats in, it will be a nice -1 2 or -1 3 disc that will be reliable for a long time.

It now turns about -1.5 or a -2 turn now maybe it's the torque on the forehand better matching pro flights cause it turns for Simon. If u do not throw it flat it will not turn and is stable Mabey the new series is abit mare stable then the older line dunno

I bought a new blend Tesla and wrath. I’m not saying the Tesla isn’t stable but the wrath is undoubtedly more stable. FWIW the tech disc has me at 1300 rpm and 60mph.

@@joshuamoser6496 They must vary. I have a 172g proton tesla and a 172 neutron wrath, and my tesla is markedly more stable than my wrath. I'd compare the wrath to a champ thunderbird, where the tesla flies more like a firebird for me.

The new neutron wrath’s that came out two months ago are what I bought and I went head to head with a Tesla and they were more stable and didn’t fly as far. They are certainly close but for me the difference was tangible

There is no standard measuring or labeling system in that the companies have agreed to use so you should not compare discs from different companies based on their flight numbers.

Numbers lie "Sometimes"??. My SPZ3 flies like a -0.5 0.5(1) My Catalyst (way over-disc for me) is a -1.1 My Tesla (ok swamp find, cosmic neutron, dead flat) flies straight for a good distance flat but pulls hard fade on the last 3rd to 1/4. Definitely no -1 with my arm but then my max is 330ft on a perfect day (and that's not dead calm.. where I seem to always throw shorter.. wind in any direction seems to help). The Tesla is brilliant for down wind RHFH 1pm overhead rollers (hit the ground about 30ft out). and at 12pm same shot is great for a big semicircle 'exit trees, round and back' Also great 1pm lob over a hedge to roll on straight, or toombstone depending on landing texture... Throw that Tesla every which way you can.. it's my most versatile disc for getting me out of holes (and specially up a channel then hard right/left (depending on FH/BH) Also good for slow wide S shapes... for slotting through staggered trees.

@@PartTimeDiscGolf I really do suggest trying a RHFH 1pm roller (maybe 1.30pm depending on stability).. I had a practice on a slight uphill 280ft open but into an 'alcove behind a tree on the left' hole... I parked 5 of the 8 shots.. one straight up went on a big arc left... my bad... and the other near 300 straight and over to the right... I hate to hit trees with any disc,, but that is my goto for a particular forest shot, 2 curved right channels... forearm the tesla (and I have no forearm) straight up the left side and it flips right at the end 1/4... and if I pull short (and still manage to miss 1st, 2nd, 3rd available etc.). I get the inside lane for a tuning fork putt (There's a pine tree that U's into 2 straight up trunks from about 4ft making a course bucket list item.. "Get a putt through the tree on 6". (along with the 'Manage to get par on the 700+ ft uphill par5' (Which I somehow managed to pull of an amazing 5 shots with the Pig on my 1st 2 year personal best.. and with the pig only).
