Buying land away from the city can be tricky. There are very many abandoned properties with houses, pools, and lakes, yet no one wants them because of the commute to the city. It may be worthwhile to hold on to the land until the city comes to you. I know someone who owned a lot of land and was offered lots of money for it, but he declined to sell. He died of old age about a year ago. He had no family in the US, so your guess is as good as mine as to what happened to his property.
