It's hard to find anything new in builds that hasn't been done dozens of times, but I've never seen anyone embed magnets to prevent bits from rolling off a work surface before, and that's something that you can use in other situations too. Nice build overall, extra kudos for the magnet trick.

I placed a large version of a kitchen knife magnet on the belt cover, and it holds at least 30 bits and a few chuck keys.

GREAT VIDEO! my only question is that it looks like you spray the actual CA glue with the accelerant as opposed to putting glue on the magnet and accelerant in the hole and then assembling. I have never seen it done this way before... if you are not immediately assembling does the CA glue ever harden with the accelerant on it and not allow the magnet into place?

I can already see how great it will be to get all my bits in one place. I laughed when you talked about having to get your box of bits out, open it and then go back to the drill. I only laugh because that’s pretty much what I do and I get annoyed. LOL. That plan bundle is looking better and better.

As a note you can buy down cut blades for your jigsaw. If you use a square sacrificial section and offset it by about a 1/4 you can flip it 4 times before replacing it. Looks nice and is a great addition to a drill press. I made a similar table for my drill press but stuck exclusively to wood and T-Track. I also used some 1x to edge the plywood as I just didn’t like the look of the exposed plywood. I made some extensions for my table raise and lock rods so I could adjust my table height and lock it down without issue. With a good table I find myself using the table much more for woodworking.

This press has worked like a charm for my projects kzbin.infoUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with.This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

Try adding a step down adapter from 4" to 2" which will increase the velocity as it tries to maintain airflow. While you're down to that diameter, consider adding on one of the flexible semi-rigid hoses that hold shape and position to manage the perfect position close to the bit and stock.

This is by far the best drill press table I've seen, since Shop Nations drill press table lol. Shout to Travis for the under the table t-track idea. Touch of genius right there. Lots of features that are here and there from other drill press tables I've seen out there 👌🏻. I use magnets as much as I can in the shop but the idea to stick them under the table to catch any bits, didn't and prob would have never occurred to me. GENIUS. The caddy for bits at the table, I've seen that a lot around, specifically on Pinterest, BUT, never really thought it would make a good solution, simply b/c I'd be too lazy and leave the bits there as oppose to putting it up where it goes. Just a personal issue I guess 🤦🏻♀ lmao. The best feature, at least to me is the shop vac so simple yet, never would've thought about this at all.

Some really awesome suggestions! Love your solution for holding the vac hose. I made a very similar drill press table by laminating 3 pieces of 1/2 baltic birch plywood, complete with track runners for hold downs and a homemade fence. I cut a rectangular hole in the top layer thinking it'd be easy to make replaceable inserts. It turned out pretty well and I made a bunch of inserts. Only problem is -- I NEVER have to replace them because I still use a scrap pieces on top of the table when drilling holes. lol

@@MWAWoodworks Lol Would love to hear how the circle works for you in the long run -- agree spinning would be easier. Mine are easy to flip around or swap out, I just can't get past the idea that a single hole is going to require more effort (minimal as it may be), and add another step the next time I have to drill something. Definitely a mental obstacle and sounds silly but I've found it's too easy to keep a piece of MDF on the table and freely move it around. John Heinz has a video where he made a new drill press table sans replaceable inserts for the exact same reasons. Mentally, I went ... Beautiful work, as always. Question: What size drill press is that? How do you like it? I’ve been thinking about something like an 8” or 10” drill press. About three years ago, I acquired an old 13.5” drill press, cleaned it up and made some repairs. It runs real nice, but it is HEAVY, and kind of big for my garage - hence the interest. Next issue: I would like to build a drill press stand along the lines of yours, on casters - but the floor slopes several inches from back to front, so it would also need leveling feet. I have been trying to come up with a good way of having both casters and leveling feet. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.
@MWAWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
I have had my jet drill press for 8 years. It's a 13.5" as well. For the amount of drilling I do it has been a good tool. As far as the cart, you could put locking casters on one side and leveling feet on the other and then on the side of the cabinet with the leveling feet you could add one of those side wheels that you have to step on the lever to raise it up. Then you could roll it around when you needed to.

@@MWAWoodworks Thank-you for the prompt response. I do not understand the reference to “side wheels”. It sounds like some sort of retractable caster - perhaps a commercial product. This sounds intriguing. I currently have diy retractable casters under my contractor style table saw, drill press, assembly table, etc., but that consumes a lot of space, which I would rather allocate to drawers. Please clarify or point me in the right direction. Thanks again.

@@MWAWoodworks It just hit me - I think you may be speaking of a Rockler-style retractable caster, that would be mounted on the side of the cabinet. Is that correct?

Awesome project with some really great ideas. Magnets to stop drill bits from falling off, forstner bit storage, cheap extrusion--all top notch. Love the sliding drawer too! I'm in Nashville like you--where do you get your baltic birch from?

I think I’ve finally found a drill press set up I’d like to be in my shop! Now, where’d I put that plywood?
