I don't know if or when they stopped the kill barrier when you hit the edge of the free roam map too. I used to do that as a little kid just because I found it hilarious at the time, how it just FLINGS you, along with the scream. I ended up picking up MX Unleashed, but it replaced the scream with a whistle, which I kinda found less funny.
