Im really starting to feel the pressure of not being able to find a decent one under 10k anywhere near me. Seeing one for sale in Missouri is damn near a rarity, and when I do find one it sells just as quick as it was posted online. Without having to go to another state and picking one up, which I dont want to do. It sucks. Really does. :/

Today in Australia NA MX-5s (Miatas) can go for $30,000 AUD for an immaculate example with around 100,000 Miles on the clock. Ones in good condition with around 150,000 miles to 200,000 miles can also sell for $15,000 - $20,000 AUD. One in bad condition you're looking at $6,000 - $10,000 AUD. When I bought mine 3 years ago. I was Looking at paying $10,000 for a good condition one, Luckly, I found my 1992 NA for $3,500 with only 100,000 miles on the clock. It did need the soft top replaced, heater hoses replaced and a new shock but after a couple weekends it was on the road. Now just a Hardtop can go for $4,000. However, there are still good deals around. Unfortunately, you just gotta to be patient and hang in there. NBs can also be had for a steal if you are willing to sacrifice have the pop ups.

My car -SU Red ‘99 NB. 5-speed, Bose and leather with 113k miles when I bought it a couple years ago. The seller wanted over $7,000, but I negotiated for $5,700. I’m satisfied with that. I plan to put as much as $15k into it, so I really think of it as my keeper and not so much what it might be worth to someone else. Knowing Miatas aren’t getting any cheaper makes me value mine that much more.

Bought my ‘99 Leather Pkg and ABS with 130k miles in 2018. It included full maintenance records from about 2002 onwards; almost all of the miles were put on when one owner commuted almost 20k miles every summer, doing an oil change every month! The backroad mileage peppered the nose with rock chips, but mechanically the car was like new… and most importantly, it was rust free. When I replaced the shocks with Koni yellows last year, I removed the ORIGINAL shocks which still worked fine and had no leaks. The timing belt has been replaced twice, but the clutch is still original. I added factory AC a couple of years ago, so I think the car has every option available in ‘99 except hardtop. I’ve owned about 40 cars in my life, and the only one I regretting selling was my ‘92 I bought after finishing grad school; now that I’ve got my ‘99 I’ll never let it go. Driving this car puts more smiles on my face than my 997.2S. Miata is ALWAYS the answer!! 😊

Paid 4900 for a base model 91 NA. Definitely overpaid, but I’ve taken care of it since I got it, and I feel the purchase was justified a month since I got it. I gotta say however, mine was a steal compared to the others currently listed. Clean title, pristine interior, no mods besides cat back exhaust and coil overs, no excessive damage, no setbacks besides the fact it never came with AC and power steering from the factory. By far the best car to just jump in and drive as soon as I purchased it, and it only gets better as I progressively make it my own and take care of maintenance items. I’d rather cough up extra dough then expend any time searching for crazy deals. More time driving, less time thinking. What do y’all think?

I saw the huge price jumps and managed to get a sweet track focused 96 NA miata for 6500 with a hard top, fixed it up a bit and sold it for 7500. I really missed it even tho I made a nice paycheck enjoying it. After that I bought a cheap ef hatch that had way too many problems. I think I had 2500 into after doing a bit of work and put 1000 on top and traded it for an even nicer 91 that needed a good bit of work. Probably put like 2-3k into it to make it a nice car I can keep, still gotta sort out some suspension work but I am very ready to enjoy it this summer.

Got mine with 115K on the odo for 5,500. The guy was asking 6500, but I brought my dad and he started talking to the dude grandmother who held the title and whose husband how recently died from dementia and was the original owner. She offered 5500 and I took it. It had some rust on the driver rocker, a fairly new top. I put around 2K+ just to get it semi-reliable for longer trips. The body has dents but the finish still shines and needs a good polish to workout some oxidation. It still needs struts, and exhaust kit. The rest is either performance related or upgrades I plan to make overtime. I know I won’t get what I put into it back, but at least I can get it to where I can enjoy it on nice days. I’m not tracking it, but I still am toying with the idea of turbo kit after all the necessary upgrades are done, but by that time I will probably will be onto something new…like a Porsche or Triumph idk. A car is car I don’t believe in being obsessive about them because they can be totaled any day at any moment.

Based on the cars you looked at it appears you’re in the northeast. I’m in VT and it’s tricky to find a Miata at a fair price. I have to travel to a nearby state so trying to decipher photos, how trustworthy the seller is, etc is tricky. This video was helpful. I’ve never driven a Miata but I’m taking the advice of any car enthusiast shopping for one. I’m just not sure if I should go for a NA with 150k miles for lower money or invest in a NC and get a more up to date car but for probably more money. I wonder if you might do another video like this updated for this year. I wish I could pick your brain on the cars available in the area. I’m the type that has a hard time parting with money so probably finding something under $7k is my sweet spot. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

I think the sweet spot for me would be an NC1 which seem to be relatively inexpensive. I actually prefer the front grill in those to the smiley face. But all Miata’s look great. The NB is addictive to drive. Really I could go either way with an NB or NC.

I just paid 2000 Dollars for one 93 Miata with original and clean interior and just a little dent on the top. It has around 250,000 Miles and pretty much looks good. Only thing wrong with it is that thermostat is gone and it overheated. It has an Exhaust Leak which makes is sound louder than normal. Also takes some time to get power to get to 1 to Second gear. And I have to change the breaks. Other than that the car turns on and Drives fine. So I really don’t know if I overpaid but exterior is clean, no rust, interior is clean and complete. AC works.

Due to thw fact that i inherited the car, the insurance company had to decide a value for it to proceed with thw claim because they believed $3500 damage might exceed the value of the car. I informed them that despite the fact that the car has over 300,000 kms on it, it was in decent shape and is a 1 of 300 limited edition. They did their research and came back to say that due to the high kilometers they declare the value of the car at $11,500.

I bought my Miata 6 years ago for 2700 then about 4 years ago I sold my Miata for 3000 then about two years ago I bought my Miata back for 200 bucks because the engine was messed up but after a years straight working on it now it’s better than previously. Just have to finish my turbo build and I’ll be good to go.

I paid 3,600 for my 1991. Radiator fans wouldn’t turn on (I fixed by added a switch to it) the blinkers didn’t work (two wires connected to the module was torn and rewired it) has short shifter, wide body, welded diff, new battery, spare, and drives perfectly. Was a protect car but issues are mainly fixed

I haven’t watched this yet but leaving a comment on my thoughts of the market and what I paid for mine, I paid $3700 for a 91 rust free and driveable, I went through and replaced the breaks rotors and lines upgraded to the 1.8 trans and a 1.8 lsd with a lightweight flywheel and clutch with wheels and such I’m probably around $6500 but I still need to replace the top and fix some paint but that’s not till summer, I would say don’t spend more than $4500 on something that doesn’t need that much work $3500 for something with a good motor, but I’d always be willing to spend more for the 1.8 Miata because I’m going back through and upgrading anyways

3.8k for a 1990 automatic no hard top, drove alright off the bat, had bad gas that was sitting in the tank for a year or so since the seller never used it, drove it home with that gas (somehow). Since I bought the car (in order that I can remember) I've, fully emptied the fuel tank, ran injector cleaner, had an oil change, replaced the fuel filter, hit a tree, replaced the soft top skeleton and top, replaced the front control arms sway bar link and tie rod ends, replaced the right fender, replaced shocks and springs in both front and rear, bought original daisy rims and center caps, replaced all external lights, replaced all spark plugs, replaced the battery and terminals, and got new tires. Looking at my bank account I have, since buying the car, have put at most (at posting) 5k into the vehicle bringing it up to almost 9k that the car over all is "worth" to me

I spent 5 months waiting for a project worth NA that drives, paid 4,000 for a 92, repainted so the paint was perfect, rebuilt engine but has 240,000k on the clock rebuilt at 180k. Receipts dating back to 90's. interior is mint, needs new soft top. has rollbar and suspension upgrade and upgraded radiator. did I overpay, probably, but for what I seen in the 5 months, its actually a decent price.

I paid 4k for my 92 miata around 2014. 115k miles garage kept came with a hard top which are usually an extra grand. Soft top needed to be replaced but everything else was clean and its been my daily ever since. Hopefully this year i can get a new daily so i can put my baby in the garage but its gonna be my life goal another if not 2 more NA miatas.

2 years ago I paid 5k5 for a decent 1.6 NA (rolling condition, bit of work to do). I paid 900 later for a clean hardtop. I consider myself lucky I recently found a "cheap" 1.8 RHD NA that needs water pump + timing done. I bargained it for 3K with a NB 1.8vvt + hardtop

I've looked at a few here in Pa everyone had some sort of oil weepage around motor, even the 'clean' ones had it going on,I need to learn more about miatas so I know what to expect,a 32 yr old car with no leaks must be a miracle or it's common and nobody talks about it,just rust is what I hear people say to lookout for.

Michigan Miata owner here. Just pulled the car cover off, gave her a bath and took out for her first drive of 2023 😁. (Currently sitting in the driveway with a cocktail enjoying her pristine beauty as I type this). She's a 1995 with 210,000 (utterly problem free) miles. Montego blue mica with the pep package(lsd, power windows, cruise control, leather interior, etc). Paid $3100 for her 11 years ago while living in the PNW (140k @ time of purchase). Since then I've invested over 10k in resto and track mods. Turns heads and gets compliments every time I drive her. Fun watching the values go up, but...tbh, completely irrelevant as I plan on being buried in in it 😂. Only way I could ever see myself getting rid of it would be to replace her with an ND. Religious zealot in the church of Miata 😁! (You can see it in the thumbnail on some of my track day vids)

I paid $1,450 in 2021 for a running and driving 99 NB Sport Model that needed a top and had faded paint. Ran and drove great with AC. Bought an $800 NA 94 Miata that didn't run. Rebuilt the motor swapped the transmission, took it to tail of the dragon. I have had difficulty finding deals like this over the last year. Prices are going insane

I paid NOTHING for a 94 NA 1.8 L with 15" rays wheels, coilovers, rollbar, hard top and vinyl soft top w/glass, 3 frame braces, manual shift ,limited slip dif, over size exhaust, custom dash and console, center panel high end gauges. new timing belt, main bering, water pump, racing seat, 5 point harness, 70,000 mi. It just sat outside about 4 years not driven as the owner was ill on the way out. He had quite a collection of cars but called this one his baby. He didn't need money and wanted me to take care if it. I only had to fix nonworking wipers and power windows. It is more fun the hotrods I has as a kid.
