I have the same bike, once I got the jetting squared away the bike is a little rocket ship. It's definitely got that mountain bike feel to it.

My jetting is pretty good and as you know it changes with the temperatures (which are changing a lot now this it is fall here in Ohio). I had good luck replacing the stock Mikuni with a short body Keihin carb on my 2019 Husky TX300 - the Keihin ran so much cleaner and stronger. Wonder if a Keihin would have the same effect on this 125XC? What jetting are you running in your 125XC?

I went with the JD jet kit and changed the block gasket. Although I followed the instructions for the most part I did have to make some changes. The bike had a lean bog between 1/8th and 1/4 throttle so I raise the needle one position from 2 to 3 and that cleaned that up. Where we ride up here in Mass we're 1000' or less and with fall setting in I've only needed to adjust the air/fuel screw for the changing temps. I also turned out the power valve screw one full turn. As a heavier guy I like the power band to come on sooner but my son who is on the lighter side (130lbs) says it can be unpredictable at times. I know a few club members who are A level riders that have the same bike and they couldn't find a happy place with the Mikuni so one went with a smart carb the other with a Keihin

They are both happy with their decisions.

@@jginga315 Thanks for the detailed response! Like you I also turned out the PV spring 1-turn which helped liven up the initial response. I had a 2020 Yamaha YZ125X and like most YZ125's it had such a crisp response at the initial turn of the throttle and would easily pull itself onto the pipe. A fast woods riding buddy of mine tried everything on his '21 125XC (JD jetting, Keihin, head, pipe) and never got to the Yamaha level of initial snap so that is why I have been hesitant to do much other than jetting (the bike came with the FMF Factory Fatty pipe and silencer - which does not give it any more low end and seems to let it rev quicker through the middle).

@@jginga315 That is good to hear. I have more experience with the Keihin so if I change the carb will go that route plus I have lots of Keihin jets and needles from years of riding smokers. I've been riding KTM 300 TPI bikes since the fall of 2019 so I am kind of spoiled now not messing with jetting!

Great video, thinking about getting a 125 for singletrack, but I weight 200lbs.thoughts? Currently riding an older 300xc

I weigh 190 lbs before gear so similar. 125's are FUN(!!) and also require a lot of shifting/clutching/throttle work to keep the power in the sweet spot but that along with the lightweight can make them engaging to ride. I am a big fan of the all new '23 KTM 300XC TBI... kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH2Yf4OOma2VoMU
