I have been scouring the internet for 6 months waiting for a good CRF250RX ride review! Thank you very much for sharing this one. Even better to have a review by someone that also has the CRF250R model for comparison!! I cannot wait to try one out myself, looks like a great woods racing, vet level MX do everything bike!!!!

Great review. You wouldn’t happen to know if the RX shares the same gear box as the R would you? Wondering if doing a conversion would be better since getting a re-valve is almost mandatory anyway.

Yes 23/23 CRF250RX share the same gearbox. Final drive is slightly different (I think RX has +1 tooth bigger rear sprocket)

Great video comparison and you can see the difference in map 1 over map 3, map 1 hooks up better and makes it more tractable which is nice. I think for me the 250R would be the best choice, just dial in the suspension and go! :)

I prefer the base EFI engine maps on the CRF250R over the RX for my mix of moto and off road riding. I also prefer the slimmer ergos of the R's titanium fuel tank (looks cooler too!)

@@mxengineer1 I agree with you, an MX bike is a better overall choice for track/trail riding and yes the slimmer tank looks better and I know it makes for a better seating area.

@@mxengineer1 as a shorter older rider, currently rides 2021 beta 250rr never owned a 4 stroke. Was wondering if the thinner ergo on the CR250R makes the bike feel a little shorter due to the narrower stance? As I am only 5 , 7 and the 36 inch height on thr beta makes me feel much more comfortable especially since i plated it and ride it both on and off road. Cant be all tippy toeing it at a red light lmao. Love the vids. Thanks for any input

@@jcsquared1111 Glad you enjoy the videos! The seat height on the '22 CRF250R/RX seems a tick higher than the previous generation '21 CRF250R/RX in case you have ridden those. I thought the Beta 250/300RR models got a little taller with the full re-design in 2020 (though the seats were thinner and firmer). I think the '22 CRF250R/RX have similar seat heights to a current Beta 250RR. Hopefully you can find a CRF250R to sit on and judge for yourself. The 22 CRF250R with the smaller fuel tank feels very thin and for me has the best overall ergo package of all the bikes I've ridden recently.

Could I have my suspension done on the 250R the same as the 250RX? Lighter springs/valving using same Showa components and it'd just be a much better bike for MX? Im 46 and 160 pounds, average vet pace.

Yes you could have the CRF250RX setting installed into your CRF250R and I bet you would be much happier with the setting. I am 190 lbs (6'2") and prefer the CRF250RX suspension setting for my average Vet moto pace.

Hello, Nice riding, great vids! Switched from an’18 250fx to a ‘22 Yz125x ( very fun but miss the torque in my tight, hilly woods) love that crf 250rx! Think an Öhlins fork insert kit and shock would fix the harshness and rigid frame feel? Saw your buddy had them on his 450rx.. I’d probably add a RedMoto 2gal tank and R shrouds too. I want zzz zee suspension- if not I’ll most likely go with a 250xcf. Appreciate it and keep ‘em coming Cheers

Thanks! Glad you enjoy the channel! The stock 22 CRF250RX suspension settings work well off road and respond well to clickers. I have ridden a 22 CRF450R with full Ohlins - very very nice so I think an Ohlins on a 22 CRF250RX would work well too! KTM XCF suspension settings are quite adjustable but take some time to learn the best air pressure and clicker settings in the AER forks.

I agree the shape of the RX tank holds the fuel up high and is wide at the top (one of the fuel tank layout limitations of the aluminum perimeter frame. I believe MSRP for a '22 CRF250R fuel tank is over $800(!!). Matt Stavish of Checkpoint Offroad imports Red Moto parts and they have a more ergonomically friendly 2 gallon fuel tank for the '22 CRF250RX and I think the pricing is more reasonable... www.checkpointoff-road.com/

For a regular rider the RX suspension setting might actually work better on a MX track...just turn the clickers in a little. If you are a A/B fast guy that hits the big jumps it will be too soft. Really depends on your skill level and how you ride. I've seen Pro level riders fly around a MX track on a bone stock KTM 250XCW which has very soft off road suspension - but this rider really made an effort to grease the downsides of the big jumps. I owned a '22 CRF250R and preferred the RX suspension for my slow Vet moto pace.

@@kolarmic While there is a few lbs difference in weight before gas the 250RX does feel a tick heavier in motion mostly due to the smoother engine mapping, more compliant/softer suspension setting, and the taller and slightly wider (at the top) fuel tank.

The power in the R and The RX is identical!!! The only difference is softer suspension. Wheel size is 1” smaller and a bigger fuel Tank/kickstand… the power is the same ….

Yes the engine hardware is the same and I believe the peak power is the same or nearly identical. However the engine mapping is different: the R stock map is basically the RX aggressive map so the RX has a softer initial throttle response in the base map. I wish the R came with the RX suspension!

Does the bike do woods single track well and maybe light enduro?

That really depends on your preferences for off road bikes. The CRF250RX works well on flowing trails (and probably light enduro) and takes more clutch work in slow technical trails to keep the engine from stalling. I find 250/300 2-strokes are much easier for tight technical trail riding with less engine braking and almost stall proof.

On the '22 CRF250RX Map 1 is stock (RX - softer than Map 1 on '22 CRF250R), Map 2 is Soft RX, and Map 3 is Aggressive RX which is similar to Map 1 on the R. Map 1 & 2 on the RX are smoother than the R.

@@caden2383 These bikes are identical mechanicals inside - just slightly different mapping. I prefer the more snappy mapping on the R (I always ran Map 3 aggressive on my '22 R). The RX has a slightly softer feel due to the softer mapping, softer suspension, 18" higher sidewall tire, and a about 3 lbs more weight but it is still fun to ride and peak power is similar to the R version.

For a 250F that revs to around 13,000 rpm it runs well at low engine RPM's but you need to cover the clutch. Here is my '22 CRF250R back to back with my buddy's 22 CRF250RX on a short woods loop - neither bike stalled!

I have never tried to measure but I think with the stock gearing (which is moto focused) perhaps 65mph. It certainly could go faster with taller gearing

Hard to say what is the best bike for you! Depends on your skills and riding experience. I can say the 22 CRF250RX has quick response in all the Maps and especially in Map 3!

Really depends on what characteristics are most important to you as a rider. The Honda finally has decent low to mid power with little engine braking and a lightweight chassis with excellent cornering. The CRF250RX only has a 5-speed moto focused transmission so it will run out of top speed quickly in open spaces. The YZ250FX KYB forks and shock set the bar for off the showroom floor suspension that is plush and works for a wide range of rider weights and skill levels. The YZ250FX also has a 6-speed gearbox for a wider spread of speed. Some riders complain about the ergos of the YZ250F/FX which can be cramped (footpeg to seat mostly) and somewhat wide front radiator shrouds (though I am not a fan of the muffin top fuel tank on the CRF250RX). Pick what characteristic is most important to you! From my perspective I give the edge to the YZ250FX with better stock suspension, extra fuel capacity that you do not notice, and 6-speed transmission and the bonus of EFI mapping on your phone!

The aggressive Map 3 on the CRF250RX is very close to the stock Map 1 on the CRF250R. Maps 1~2 on the CRF250RX rev slower and have smoother power. Peak power on both bikes is probably the same - just the feel or character of the power is different. The RX has smoother response - better for off road. The R feels a little more barky with a slightly snappier response.

CR500!!!! What an awesome bike! Big change going down to a YZ125X or a CRF250RX! YZ125X is all about fun and lightweight and mountain bike like agility. The YZ125's have the best initial throttle response and easily get into the powerband even with any or much clutch. The KYB suspension is the best off the showroom floor. 125's are all about working the throttle, clutch, and shifting to keep them in the powerband making power. That can be a lot of fun and very rewarding while riding and it is also a lot of work. I really enjoyed my 202 YZ125X. The smoother power and added weight will give the bike a more planted though less agile feel. I think the 22 CRF250R agile and lightweight feeling with an almost 125 2-stroke like agility while the RX version looses a little of the Fun to Ride factor due to smooth engine mapping, softer suspension setting, and the wider fuel tank. I give the slight edge to overall versatility and rideability to the CRF250R/RX with the broader power and even with the added weight still very agile and fun to ride.
