I just hope that Volvo holds together for awhile. This machine here gave me 13 good years! And would have been alot longer if I had known about its other issues. But alas, I cant change the past. But I can move forward.

You should put a Detroit in it we had a loader that had a cat in it lasted forever but when it went out we found a 453 Detroit out of a skidder it's been very reliable

You can tell it’s rod knock cause when’s it gets warmer it tends to be louder unlike when it’s cold and u can hear the rings gouging the cylinder walls like a screeching sound

Crack each injector line open one at a time and see if one of them makes the noise go away. If it does swap that Injector with another cylinder then repeat cracking the lines loose. If the knock stays at the same cylinder then it is a lower end knock. If it moves then it’s a bad injector. With it getting as hot as it did, doesn’t look too promising though.

Garry Walker 13 years of faithful service. Long summer hours in the hot sun. Cold winter mornings shuffling cars around. Probably a million pounds of engine blocks moved. She’s pushed snow, dirt and rock. Helped spread asphalt for our driveway and dig out a few other stuck machines... this old girl pod her weight in gold for profits.... it’s not the end I hope. I’m going to try and find another engine. Or see if this one is salvageable. Let’s take a moment of silence for her...

Power equipment in Chattanooga Tennessee or even the komastu dealer and manufacturer in Chattanooga can probably get you a good rebuilt engine dont know if it would be worth it to you or not

Sounds like my Ford F-150 when it threw a rod, i just got it back from a shop after a intake swap, and the next day it was hung in 2nd all the way from my house to my work and when I went to leave it started to backfire and spudder and i ended up having to jump it to life and it started squealing and finally i got a tow home and ended up sending it in my drive way but it’s all good now it’s got a new motor in it i think its on it’s 3rd motor now lol

Ian Above freeze plugs kept popping out , machine would overheat before you even knew it. A few times of that and she started tapping down in the lower field, by the time we got it Doug out and back up to the top it was toasted.

Jay and may not be cooked and just might be in limp modeI know my school bus goes into limp mode and it's designed to do that to protect the motor you won't get no power out of it until the problem is fixed

I operated 2 international 510B Hough's that were repowerd by komastu engines 6 thousand dollars for a new motor and 6 thousand for labour good machines till the transmissions went out in them

Dennis Henderson I plan on doing the engine swap ourselves. Save the labor right there. When the old track loader blew up we swapped it ourselves. This should be a cake walk compared to that. Just finding a cheaper used engine seems to be the challenge

justsomeguytoyou theoretically old age can be a diagnosis. Everything wears out eventually. just because something is properly maintained doesn’t mean that it isn’t going to fail at some point in the future. Even the most well maintained vehicles end up in the junk yard eventually, if the owner chooses not to do an engine rebuild when necessary.
