Gregor, dude, I found you guys a year or so ago and of course “subscribed” because of all the very cool basses you all would review, but this one tops them all. A Brit bass player since I was about 16 now at 66, done a lot, played a lot, and you just… wouldn’t believe how your story/testimony/ was/ is so like mine (ok I know I’m older..lol) and blessed me tonight. Seriously! I have played (and gathered) a lot of basses over the years (I need to sell some!) but your description of this one and how it turned out looks and sounds awesome! Anyways, trying not to ramble too much but…. You Rock - love you guys and your channel - Thank you for all you do bro! Keep on “Bass-ing the World!” 🙏🙏🙏

How about making an episode about flatwound strings? You have interesting basses and gear that we don't usually hear with flats. Ibanez with flats through Darkglass for example... A jazz bass with Dunlop flats with some overdrive is a Beautiful Thing.

My favourite bass is my AVRI ‘57 P bass made in 1984. It’s completely stock. For years I’ve considered modding it but my bandmates have asked me not to change anything because it sounds so good 😊 I’ve had the same set of rotosound flats on it for 7 years & the tone is really deep & woody. Thanks Gregor for always creating demos that let us hear the instruments & not just being technique driven. Stay safe

Nice P tone from that BTW bass. My main for the past 25years is my Modulus Quantum 5, EMGs. The 35” scale helps the B tightness a lot. I was very lucky when I went for a Precision again. I used to have a 70s maple Precision but I foolishly let it go. I was playing a Wal as my main back then. I found a MIM Precision with Creamery pickup and Omega bridge and it's just right. Right for when that P sound is required. For J I got a Sire V7, what a revelation ! The Q5 is still my baby though. Great channel, I always look forward to your episodes.

Always enjoy your channel, Gregor! As far as flats on the EB-3, I'd go with the Thomastics. They would give more of a tonal variety than the LaBellas. I use (and Love) their Low Tension Flats on my fretless basses. But on my #1 (a highly modified 1992 Peavey Fury) I use Thomastics. I think they'd be close to a Jack Bruce/Felix Pappalardi tone.

Excellent video! Really enjoyed it. I was wondering if it would be cool to have a series of videos that would portrayed best "bang for the buck" basses. I'm an amateur bass player for 22 years and somehow ended up always (except 1 time) buying Ibanez basses, the specs for the price were unbeatable. I'm sure more brands have great basses at a reasonable price (say sub 1000€ and sub 600€) like the single cut fan fret Cort video you made. Cheers!

Great video again. I have a musicman stingray 5 string from 1992 and back in the day it sounded great to my ears but many years later I went back to 4 string again (and flatwounds ;-). My opinion with 5 strings is that they don't have the same feel and sound as a 4 string. They are ok but I miss the 'soul' of the bass. This is also the case with Fender 5 string Jazz and PB basses, they don't sound like an Fender. I tried several things with my MM to give it more an unique feel like experimenting with strings (I had DR's on it), flatwound, roundwound, EQ variations but nothing made me love this bass again. So... I think 5 strings are something from the past or you are playing in a band with a bad singer (transposing all songs down). 4strings have more personlity to me. And... I have also a question: What's your opinion about TC electronic RH750 amps and RS cabinets (12")? Do you like the tube emulation? The Sound? Don't worry, be honest, I don't have such gear but maybe in the future?

depends on the design. There are great 5-string basses with a shorter scale, but I wouldn't recommend to do this with a Fender-type design. The B-string will more likely suffer than profit from this

I play 5 string Bass, and I came to the same conclusion as You.. more Fretboard, more neck, more tension.. A 5 string Bass is no Doubt a Bass.. But its a "Different" kind of Bass than a 4 string... I play Schecter 5 strings, 35 inch scale, passive PBass p'ups, active preamp.... A Stealth 5 has become my #1, over the Much higher priced schecters. It has the Most Balanced volume from B-G... 35" scale & 24 frets also play a factor . And also, I have Never played a Traditional PBass Design that allows Me to do "My thing" ...i love them, but they Make You Play them a Certain Way... I recently bought the Schecter P5, and by breaking some rules they have a Very Good 5 string PBass.. Highoutput Cali Handwound Monster Tone Passive Pickup. Schecters High Mass Bridge, (string thru body or Bridge) Looks Exactly like a Badass. I want to router out and set the Bridge deeper so I could get the Lower action that has allowed me to truly develop my style, speed, & finger dynamics. But the 35"scale has the bridge so close to the bottom, once you set it in, I will have to dremel into a very small area to allow the balls of string go into bridge..... I do my own work, and it looks too damn good, so I think I am going to just Let it Be what it is, a Traditional style PBass 5string bass, with KILLER Hot Tone(louder than my actives, but Still Controllable) Note; most Bass Players would be perfectly ok with the Action.. Even with the High Mass Bridge it adjust lower than most PBass allow... Which make me close with this..it seems every traditional PBass ive ever owned, or played , the depth of the Neck in body, is deeper , Never allowing you to achieve that Low action I prefer... So my Stealth 5 is the answer for the Super Low Action, Fast Playability....with its Pups&Preamp, & DR Black Beautys , it sounds like a Full-size Double Bass&Baby Grand in tandem...(the preamp is an an exact likeness of the Aguillar Bass/Treble Boost/Cut... But Schecter would not tell Me Who Made their Preamp) I had trouble with original preamp, volume only was affected about the last 1/4 turn .. They sent me a replacement like the next day... It looked just like the Aguillar even more so than the one I replaced...plus check this out... They sent a Resistor and told Me to add as a Treble Bleed... So I have put them on all my basses .. So my Stealth 5 "So0T" is my True 5 String PBass.....(forgot to mention the back Humbucker..... I goof with...the Front Pup does it all) And My Schecter P5, is Awesome, Beautiful Ivory , Alder Wood , Dark Rosewood Fretboard, satin black pick guard , Black Grover Clover tuners, Black Hardware..... I Dig the Hell out of Having a Traditional style PBass with some Hot rod Mods.... (Sound, plays, reacts and feels better than Any Traditional PBass 5 string that I have played) I am sorry for rambling, buti watched your video and was SO Glad to see another Bassist saying that he's never truly been satisfied with a Traditional P Bass....AND BONUS, that You Have Came To the Same Conclusion as I have... A Traditional PBass was Designed to have 4Strings.... Its Like taking a Truck and saying , "I want 5 Wheels instead of 4, in the very center of the Back.. To have Better traction in mud and to be able to drive/ climb Steeper inclines...it must first and foremost drive conventional, as a 4 wheel truck, but have the 5th tire Ready if needed , and Most important than Anything , you can not change , convert. Dimensions, Shape, Size, It must Look exactly like the 4 string, just add the damn tire, its just fad" As a Singer in a 3 piece Southern Outlaw Blues Power Trio🤔🤠 when I picked up my first 5 string bass , i set my 4's aside. That was in 1993 till present day... I began singing and playing bass in my first band at the age of 9.. So I played 4 string pbass and jbass from 9years old till I was 22.. Not only did that weird and wonderful ibanez Soundgear 505 allow me to transpose songs, and never have to sacrifice a LOW Note, it allowed me to play piano parts, and the fact that I suddenly had definition was wonderful. When a Sound Engineer days a Bass is Supposed to be Felt, not heard, know right away he is just a Dumbass that doesn't know how t I mix bass...He is better neither felt nor heard🤣 I truly believe the 5 string bass is its Own Animal, and sound and perform Proper, the More modern styles are the only way to go... I mean, from 3&2 Tuners, with the Slanted Headstock& 35"scale not just to support the extra tension of the 5th string, but to keep EVerything tight , stable.. The P'ups, electronics, passive or active, capacitors. A Bass designed 50+years to have 4 strings, sounds Great....when you only add an extra string, you have something that will Never do the Proper job of a 4 or a 5string. I choose my 5string Basses, not by what a 4 string of that same model sounds like, not by price, not by the fact that a company makes a great 4string...thank GOD for the brands that have focused on making great 5 strings....the ones that have, along with the players that play them, have No illusion that a 5 string is a 4 string with an add on....sorry for All the unnecessary rambling....again it just was good to hear a Bassist that has had a similar experience and come to a similar conclusion... Appreciate Real Bass Talk.. In my 40year relationship, I love playing bass more every year... Much love to all of My Brothers that create the Groove,& bring down he Thunder💯🤠⚡⚡

Dear Gregor, clearly you're not fully accepting of the accolades that we bestow upon you as a bassist. I truly believe that every single person has their own unique set of gifts, talents and skills. When we speak of your greatness, it's not trying to say that you play "just like so and so". No, you are great at your particular approach to playing. No matter how much you practice those particular lines and licks to get a good take when you record. It doesn't matter. You do YOU exceedingly well! When all is said and done, what more can we ask from anyone? And isn't one of the huge benefits of any creative art form or vocation, the endless variety of styles and approaches? As many as there are people on the planet at any given moment, I would say. Like the Isley Brothers said back in the 1970's, "It's Your Thing, Do What You Wanna Do. I Can't Tell Ya, Who To Sock It To!" Please keep doing your thing, in your own way. I suspect that life would be exceedingly boring if we all played at the exact same level, in the exact same way, etc, etc, etc. Do YOU, my brilliant, badass Brother In Creative Arms!!! And thank you for continuing this amazing channel devoted to everything bass. And whatever you're doing (robbing banks, maybe?) to keep it going, week after week. May Uplifting Blessing Continue To Follow You, Your Entire BassTheWorld Team and All Of Your Families! See you next time...
