My first utility trailer didn't come with a spare tire. I paid the extra $100 for the spare tire and mount before I left with the trailer. I only needed to use it twice, but both times, I was miles away from home.

Years ago borrowed a trailer from a friend. Needed it for 600 mile round trip. 200 miles from home, tire blew, no spare tire. I now take a spare tire for 5 mile round trip to put the boat in or out. Failure to prepare means you are prepared to fail! Great advice!

Spare tire for the win! Bought my spare when I bought the new dual-axle utility trailer last winter. Only $100 at time of trailer purchase. My biggest fear is being "that guy" stuck at the side of the interstate, either looking at a flat or a smokin' hub. Love the channel!

And make sure that your trailer lug nuts match the nuts holding on the spare tire. (in my case, also same as my tow vehicle)

As I age I find the trailer ramps seem to gain weight. ( I put them on a diet to no avail) I upgraded the springs on the trailer ramps but they still had the same problem. I was looking at auxiliary springs like Gorilla springs but have no idea if the really work or if the are a good idea or not. What is your advice about auxiliary springs? Also what is the most effective way to lighten those ramps as a guy ages? A new trailer is not an option as I need a 16,000 gvw trailer to haul my tractor around. Only a moderate amount of use 2 to3 times a month in the late spring, summer& early fall. but need it when it needs to move the tractor.Live in northern NH.

I have two tandems, an 18 and a 12 foot. I have 2 spares on each trailer. Seen too many trailers where a blown tire takes out the one next to it.

It’s actually a fabricated, weld-on mount. It was installed in manufacturing. I’m not the biggest fan of the bolt on mounts, I prefer to use the fabricated, welded version. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

A topic that would be great, identify cheap or "overseas" par5s equipment to stay away from. Bearings, axle hubs, tires, brakes... They really have infiltrated our market. Safety...

Ha! I have learned the hard way to make sure I have backups for my backups! 2 spare tires is never a bad idea when hauling an rv!

I agree with having a spare, however I believe the trailer manufacturer should provide one.. Instead of being so cheap, provide one. Instead they want to charge you extra, 400+ for a spare. Just my thoughts. At least the RVs have spares... thanks for the information.

Everything costs money. The profit margins in the trailer industry are incredibly tight, I doubt we will see them throw in a spare tire for free.

They will not add a spare because of the profit of selling it at an additional nearly 500 vs 200 +/- from the factory.
