Summarised Tips: - Do not be put off the gym; go with a friend - Workout until you cannot do more reps (muscle hypertrophy) - Always do bench presses with friends - More reps does not require more muscle, do a slower rep overall to increase muscle contraction time - Follow a timed workout for abs - Run if you can, reduces stress - Eat out of a bowl instead of a plate - Alcohol isn't great for exercise.... - Look for foods high in satiety index - Drink tea to fill you up

Great video. However there were a couple of inaccuracies. First of all, you should NOT train to failure on every set. Training to failure greatly taxes your nervous system and increased recovery time. There may be a few sets within the workout where you want to push to failure but as a general rule of thumb you want to stay around 1-2 reps away from failure on most of your sets. Secondly, muscle “Toning” doesn’t actually exist. You can increase the size of the muscle and you can decrease your overall body fat but you can’t “tone” a muscle. Anyways, good progress.
@fennomanzoomer95475 жыл бұрын
Good comment.
@agentzer0815 жыл бұрын
What is the ideal # of sets for you and the # of reps in each set?
@blakegriffin1725 жыл бұрын
I second this. I would say though that a beginner training to failure probably doesn't matter too much but yes once lifts start going up and taxing the CNS more you definitely don't want to go to failure every set.
@DigiiFox5 жыл бұрын
@@agentzer081 A common setup would be 5x5 on your main lifts (Bench, Squat, OHP). Overwise it's 3/4 sets of 3-5 reps for strength training and 4-5 sets with 8-12 reps for hypertrophy. Take in mind different people will respond differently to training and it's best to find what works best for you.
@Gobbygoblin5 жыл бұрын

Here is some valuable info for gym exercise. -most importantly, the 1rm (1 rep max) is how much you can lift for one rep. you use a percentage of this weight to exercise for different results. 90-95%: Strength (4-6 reps) 85%: Mass (8 reps) 70% Toning (10 reps) 60%: Endurance (12+ reps) all credit goes to the american school system.

Training to failure on every exercise of your workout is actually not beneficial for muscle hypertrophy, good video. I just wished it was a bit more checked on facts. When gaining muscle, progressive overload and total volume are most important. Going to failure lowers your total volume capability. Doing more quality reps with each set leaving 1-2 reps left in the tank is a much more effective and quality way to train, going to failure every so often on your last exercise for a muscle group of the day can be beneficial but only then.
@raininjune4445 жыл бұрын
Kieran Whitton-Booth i totally agree but to hit hypertrophy once or twice a week doesn’t hurt your muscles. It’s a way to pump more blood into (for example) the bicep, which then makes it bigger for a certain amount of time which will then stimulate the muscle growth
@iiiosif.165 жыл бұрын
Kieran Whitton-Booth what he meant was to do the excersise until you just can’t do it anymore and fail
@kieranwhitton-booth53545 жыл бұрын
IB7GAMING yes and I don’t agree with that lol, that was my entire point. Leaving a rep in the tank allows more quality total volume. For anyone interested Dr. Eric Helms does amazing research in this field and Jeff Nippard has fantastic clear scientific muscle building videos.

@@kieranwhitton-booth5354 Yeah your right, little bit disappointed with this video as something like this needs to be researched a lot. What he didn't mention which is probably one of the most important things for Hypertrophy is the eccentric movement (downward). Your muscles only grow through tearing and repairing bigger and stronger. And you only tear them by extending under pressure. Athlean x is probably the best and most reputable channel on youtube, i would recommend just rinsing his videos for advice.

dont overcomplicate it mate. the small shit doenst matter dont overcomplicate it. 1- 1g of protein per lb of body weight. 2- track your cals, (surplus=bulk, deficit= cut . 3- progressive overload with focus on compound lift. This is literally all you ever need to know about fitness in one paragraph. Never watch another video again.

As someone who's also not an expert, but has been studying experts closely for quite some time, and also spending most of my free time in the gym, I have some comments. First of all, great job on the transformation! It's always motivating as fuck to see results. Second, this is purely for discussion and constructive criticism purposes. I do not mean to be offensive or pretend that I know everything about lifting. Obviously, if this is what works for you, go for it. There just might be a safer or more efficient way of going about it. It's a long read, be warned... 1. On your first point you mention failure training each exercise to increase hypertrophy. This is correct, to a certain extent. While it is great to push yourself, training to failure drastically increases muscle fatigue. This makes it so that you are capable of doing less reps next set, which can drastically decrease your total volume for each training session. Athlean-X, a well known and trusted trainer, reccomends training to failure the last set of your last 1-2 exercises per session. On the remaining sets you leave about 1 or 2 reps in the tank for each set and exercise. This decreases muscle hypertrophy, and by increasing total number of reps, also increases time under tension, which is one of the key mechanics of hypertrophy. 2. You mention 1-12 reps for optimal hypertrophy. I'm not sure where you got this from, but as 2-5 for raw strenght, 6-10 (littledebated whether it's 10 or 12) for hypertrophy, and above that for muscular endurance. Below 6 reps per exercise (assuming that you're not some weirdo doing like 8 sets of 2 reps) doesn't add quite as much to your size as reps above the 6 rep mark. The usual golden rule for sets*reps is 3*8 for hypertrophy. 3. When doing your dips, there really isn't any benefit to going below the point where your elbows are at 90 degrees. Again, Athlean-x has a great video on dips called "Are you doing dips properly? (AVOID MISTAKES)", where he explains this much better than I can. Going below 90 degrees will in the long term damage your shoulder joints, as the socket isn't built for heavy loads at that great of an angle. Your chest muscles and triceps also don't really see much more of a strech below that point, atleast to where it outweighs the impingement risk. 4. On muscle "tone" or definition, as I assume you're talking about. I may be misunderstanding you, but having defined muscles really just boils down to being 1. Low bodyfat %, and 2. Having "large" muscles. This is basically just diet and time. You're not going to look good as low bodyfat % if you don't have any muscles "to define", and you're not gonna be very defined if you're really muscular but you hide it under 30% bodyfat. Again, I might be misunderstanding you here, idk. I really enjoyed the video though! It's really motivational! Again, don't mean to say that I know everything or be offensive, but these are all pretty basic google searches, so hopefully that shouldn't be an issue. Good job if you read the whole thing!
