Regarding shelf life baits Iain, I personally agree with you and would use them all the time, however the issue find is that a lot of these day ticket waters still won't allow you to use them, I feel the bait industry really needs to re educate fishery owners on this point .

Simple solution to that, put your bait in a bucket, how are they ever going to tell the difference? Especially if you jazz up your bait with liquid or particle.
