I just finished "Dinner for Vampires" and I think you might be interested in that. Its Bethany Joy Lenz' memoir (she was on One Tree Hill) and her time in a cult. Its very different from Jonestown but I think still super interesting because Joy is so relatable in her reasonings for "staying" and why she was the "perfect victim".

📚 omg is that a sweater from Ariel's shop? It looks great on you and it's sweet that you support her. I love the fact that a book she recommended is on your favorites list! I watched your channel a few years back but I fell off when I started uni 😭You've grown as a creator, I love your video ideas. I'll be watching the Shakespeare retellings asap🏃♀ I've been hearing a lot of mixed reviews on Lady Macbeth and I want to love it. You putting it on your favorites list makes me excited to pick it up! I'm also intrigued by Thirst, it sounds like a fascinating book. I quite love introspections too :) As for recommendations, I think you might like "Call Me Cassandra" by a Cuban author Marcial Gala. It's a reimagining of Cassandra (Trojan priestess who rejected Apollo and was cursed by him to see the future, but no one believed her), but they live in Cuba in 1970s. Rauli sees the future and knows they'll die at 18 in a war. It is definitely a difficult and triggering book (TWs for: physical and sexual abuse, war, homophobia, racism and alcoholism), but it's beautifully written and it explores gender, the nature of humanity and the role of mythology in our culture and personal worldviews in an interesting way. It's very atmospheric and heart-wrenching, and criminally underrated. Though do proceed with caution. I'm recommending it because I think you'll enjoy the prose and the atmosphere, and the conversations inside it.

I really appreciate it and am happy you're back I just added Call Me Cassandra thanks to your recommendation! I love Cassandra and this sounds right up my alley, especially if it's written by a Cuban author!

The Warm Hands of Ghosts and the Jim Jones biography sound the most interesting to me from this list. I definitely want to read more nonfiction in 2025 so that could be a good place to start. I want to pick up Ashley Poston’s book that came out last year called A Novel Love Story because she is amazing. I think she also has a novel coming out this year, which if she does, I’ll be really excited to check it out 📖📚

📖 I got a gift card for xmas and decided to use it to get both tender is the flesh and thirst. I've seen lots of channels talking about them and other argentinian writers and I figured I should set as a goal for myself to read more local authors so as not to be shamefully ignorant about them. Anyways, best of luck for 2025, Olivia!
