Hi Gary. Checking this model bike out for a while now..... This is one of the best & straight forward reviews I have come across yet, and it's Irish!!!!😀😀😀😀.... I am a mid 50s biker with a CBF600S That is mainly for computing. Sore clutch hand makes me think this will be the ideal bike for me. Cheers for taking the time..... 👍👍👍👍👍🏍

THE DIY'ER Glad my video is of help. You may be a little down on power than your CBF but it is a nice bike. A four cylinder is different experience but if you want a relaxed experience this is a great bike. I suggest you get a test ride to see if you like it first. Good luck with your decision and thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.

Hi Gary, I enjoyed your review which I found very honest and objective. I'm from Belgium and I have an NC750X DCT, which I bought 15 months ago. I had lots of different bikes in the past but because of problems in my left hand (pain from using the clutch), I decided to buy this bike, and I haven't regret it for one second. I did 13 000 km till now and I'm very happy with my bike, greetings

Thanks for watching my video. I love the bike but there are a few issues with it, but no more than any other bike. Being my commuting bike the DCT is great and the fuel economy is in scooter range. If you are not a racer it is a bike not to ignore. Ride safe and enjoy your NC

Test rode one: Excellent gearbox, easy to use and smooth. Plenty of grunt, especially at low revs. After playing with the box I just left it in Sport 3 virtually all the time - it holds on to the gears a lot longer, and more or less shifts when you would. If it doesn't, just use the manual buttons.

monck55 For my commuting purposes the sport 1 setting is the best. It also seems easier on fuel than the D setting. It all comes down to personal preference. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Great owners honest review thanks.i have had many bikes at 63. 2 yrs ago i decided to get a sit up position bike and dropped from 130hp sports bike to 65hp. I really was worried about the loss of power. I soon started to love the lower powered bike and red lined it all the time, something i couldvonly do in 3 gears out of 6 on the sports bike. I test rode manual x one of these last week and absolutely loved it. 0-60 4.5 seconds my sportsbike 3s. Can i really feel it🤷🤷🤷. It happily cruised at 90 and if you keep the engine gear changes at 4750 its max torque figures, its no slouch at all imo. Probably be my last bike, i have recently test ridden RE 650, tracer 7, versys650, vstrom 650, guzzi v7 and its the Honda that was outstanding for me. Cant find a dct 2021 to test ride anywhere in England. Ridiculous😂
@GaryGSF
@GaryGSF 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind comments. I loved the NC. As a second bike it was just the ticket. You get used the the low redline and modify your riding to suit. The DCT sorts that by not allowing you to hit the limiter. In the car world 0-60 in 4.5 secs is amazing but in bike terms it is slightly sedate. My only advice is not to take on a Tesla in the traffic light grand prix LOL. They are a much underrated bike. I hope you get to ride one as they are different and not to everyone's taste. Take care and ride safe.

That was a really good review. I like the thought of a NC750X but somewhat concerned about the drop in power/torque compared to my current 10 year old 1200GS. I was particular encouraged by the fact you had the VFR yet are still happy on the NC.

DervMan You would definitely miss the torque of the GS. The NC is essentially a commuter bike which is what I use it for. On saying that the little bike has lots of charm and is so economical. Make sure you get a good long test ride if you are considering one. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

GaryGSF What I forgot to mention was it's the DCT that attracts me to the Honda. I'm aware the Africa Twin is available with DCT but the tubed tyres (I do get the odd flat) and lack of cruise control put me off. The CrossTourer has the shaft drive and DCT too but a touring bike that costs £15k not to have the option of cruise is terrible. I'll just have to wait for Honda to release a NC1000X 😉

I have a 2014 750S. I notice that the bike hits a vibration peak at around 3000 revs in the higher gears, which just happens to be where the bike is most economical on fuel. So, for instance, if I accelerate slowly in 5th gear from 2000 revs up to 4000 revs the bikes vibration increases in strength before easing off again as it climbs to 4000 revs. I'm finding the vibration is numbing my fingers. Gary, are you experiencing this peak vibration yourself around the 3000 rev point?

I find around 3000 rpm mine smooths out. Below that it is a little lumpy. Does yours have the standard bar end weights as if they are changed it can add to the vibes of the bike. I hope you get the vibes sorted. Thanks for watching.

Got the manual version, great bikes. I was in the Honda dealer the other day and was told the X version outsells the S by 25 to 1. Having ridden both, in my view the S is a better overall bike and handles a lot better. It's also cheaper.
@GaryGSF
@GaryGSF 7 жыл бұрын
I know the X is definitely the best seller. I had a loan of one for a week before getting my S due to a mix up with the dealer ordering the bike and couldn't wait to get on the S. Although they are very similar I strangely found the X uncomfortable. The only theory I could come up with is that the slightly higher handlebars puts more weight on the base of your spine. Glad you're enjoying your bike. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

I'm 6'4". Biker friends and even the Honda dealer are trying to persuade me to buy the X rather than the S because of the ride height. I don't intend to do long tours... help. Any advice is welcome. I actually don't like the look of the X! Could you make use of the extra 900 revs in the 2018 model? BTW, it's an urban myth that the engine is half of the car engine - it uses technology that was developed for the car engine, but it's an all new engine.
@GaryGSF
@GaryGSF 7 жыл бұрын
Personally the extra 900 rpm will transform the bike. If it is your only bike you will want more from the 2017 bike. For me the lazy feel of the 2017 model suits as it is my 2nd bike used for commuting. Height wise I cannot comment. The small size makes it feel like a toy underneath me and I like it. I'm 5ft 10inches but I'm 22 st. A big lad but the little bike gives me plenty of room. Ride one and see. I found the X not so comfortable as it put pressure on my tail bone. The S doesn't. The only other bike that caused that pain was a BMW R1200GS which is considered a comfy bike. Different bike suit different people. Good luck with your decision.

Yesterday I finally signed the papers and my 2018 NC750X DCT is now ordered. In the end I choose the X because of the seat height. I'm living in Germany, but plan to stretch its legs in May and ride over for the NW200! I've never rode a DCT, so I'm buying the bike blind! Do you remember your first ride with DCT - how was that? Have you ever mistakenly blipped the throttle? It seems to be coming with Battle Wing tyres - have you also ridden with these?
@GaryGSF
@GaryGSF 6 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on your purchase. You should really enjoy the bike. Mine is not my first DCT bike I have owned. I previously had a VFR1200F with DCT back in 2012. It was amazing, but was too fast for the DCT gearbox. The VFR dropping a gear when it wasn't planned could make the rear wheel spin or the front to lift. That was probably cured with traction control on later models. You only ever blip the throttle mistakenly one. I think most people do it once, so be careful. The tyres are fine for the bike. There is plenty of grip in wet or dry conditions. You'll love the NW200. The entire week has become a great festival. Also when there is no racing the scenery in the area is spectacular. Enjoy your new bike and ride safely.

Thanks Gary. Good review. Currently riding a 20 year old Suzuki GSXF 750 perfect for redoing my test having been away from biking for 30 years! Not to worried if i drop it from time to time. I find it a top heavy bike when turning at low speed. Next year when I have completed the learning curve and the NC750 sounds perfect for weekends in the Wicklow hills. Being no spring chicken I have 2 questions,; how is the centre of gravity and is she light and easy to manhandle?
@GaryGSF
@GaryGSF 7 жыл бұрын
Great to have you back in the biking community. The GSX-F is a great bike and hopefully you'll not drop it. The NC has a really low centre of gravity and the engine is low slung and canted forward making it feel lighter that the figures state. The fuel tank is small and is located under the passenger seat that also helps with the low centre of gravity. The NC might just be a little slower than your GSX-F but it is so fuel efficient you forgive it. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps.

Hi Gary, Thanks for the video. Could I ask how tall you are? I'm 6'1.5" tall and got on well with the 750X during a 40 minute test ride. Your answer may make me consider the 750S if we're about the same height. David G.

I'm 5'10" so quite a bit shorter than you. Like an orangatan I've only a 27" inside leg and a huge long back so I deduce that the X may be your better choice. Get a ride on the S as when on the bike there is not a lot fo difference in the riding position. The S is slightly canted forward that took pressure of my coccyx that the X is bolt upright. Good luck with your choice.

Good point. You need to knock the bike down a couple of gears when riding rapidly. Even in auto mode this can be done by hitting the downshift button. When in the top sport mode it will drop gears readily but in the normal drive mode you need to drop down manually. Thanks for watching and I hope this answers your question.

Well Gary I must say a good honest review and agree with everything you say as I to have changed from the NC700 manual to the NC750 DCT although mine are the X model, I use it dally for my work and do around 400 a week, bought in April 2016 the DCT is recording an average of 82mpg as most of my miles are done training new riders, the seat as you say is not that comfortable and have upgraded to a seat by Shad & this I find does not tilt you forward therefore much easier on the spine. Had mine serviced in June17 at Bridge Motorcycle in Exeter and was taken back buy the cost £599 for a full service @18,000mls, they tell me it takes 8 hrs to complete and this was without anything being replaced other than service items, they never even adjusted the parking brake. she now showing 22,300mls so just about run in I think, but does the cost of servicing out do the extra MPG?
@GaryGSF
@GaryGSF 7 жыл бұрын
I am glad you find the review honest. I tried not to look at the bike through rose tinted glasses as I love the little bike so much. The 18k service is a shocker. I suppose it is to do with the valve checks at that stage. Takes a long time to check the clearances. At that stage I will do the work myself. Mostly at 18k the valve clearances will need no work. Is it worth going by ear on it? If I still have the bike then I may give it a good listen before removing the rocker cover. I use the bike to and from work 3 miles away so my mpg is around 65. Very acceptable in my book. Lots more mpg out on a ride out. Thanks for watching the video and sharing your experiences, it is what KZbin is all about.

I would normally do my own servicing but I came with a life time warranty from Bridge Motorcycles but they tell it must be serviced by them (I think not from now on) and as the bike needed rear wheel bearings and they are not covered, But did get them from Mr Honda! it makes you wonder what is covered. The valve clearance is done as on the car engine (Jazz) simple screw in type so I will be doing my own service from now on. Enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

The NC750S without DCT which it has less weight difference with the CB500F has more low end torque because the engine has a shorter stroke and revs up to only 6000rpm , the CB500 rev up to 9500rpm. the NC has much better pull from a stop a go situation and it's purpose is more into city traffic. the CB feels more nippy from mid range to upper rpms.

So I purchased a Kawasaki verses 650 . At 60mph in top gear wife on back opened throttle pulls away . So 100cc less the Kawasaki got more power. Other than that was a nice bike . But build quality not quite as good as Kawasaki in my opinion .

Paul The Grump The NC is definitely not a power machine but being my ride to work bike is fine. The Versys is a lovely bike. Enjoy. Thanks for watching

Hristiyan Hristov Hi I think I didn't make my self clear . I ment at sixty it wouldn't pull seem to just say there . If I would have dropped down a gear it pulls absolutely fine . I've seen other reviews that say the same . Including this video . Since I posted the comment . I've purchased a new 750X DCT . As I said love the bike. And DCT is fantastic . It makes a great commuter bike . And I've kept the Kawasaki because it's got the full touring equipment. .

I had a lady try to sell me that bike at the Honda dealership. I told her I was not interested in an automatic motorcycle. She kept pushing the bike....

Everyday But Sunday It's definitely not a bike for everyone. I love it but is my 2nd bike as I also have a manual Africa Twin. It really is essentially my scooter. Thanks for watching.

Gary Thanks for the review. If you could afford just one bike for everything, would you chose the Africa Twin or the NC. Is it comfortable two up? I'm looking for a new bike and the automatic gear change interests me for the same reason as all old bikers. Arthur in the hands. I ride seventy miles a day so need comfort and my wife wants a bike that is as comfortable as an old Diversion 900. I did have a Tracer but it was too uncomfortable to ride to the end of the street so it has now gone. Ride safely. NOTAFULLUN

For comfort the Africa Twin is the business. 100 mile stints non stop is easy. Only issue is the height to get on. Fine once aboard. DCT automatics are a marmite thing. I love it on the NC750 as I use it for commuting and short distances around town where the DCT is king. The Africa Twin is manual and it is no hardship since it is used out of town and greater distances. I had a Tracer previously and it does not have the comfort of the Africa Twin. It's worth getting a ride on a DCT. You might just love it.

There is a GPS function and G sensor built into the camera and the graphic can be added by the TomTom studio software.

Glad I have help you with your decision. There is a taller screen available from China I can recommend and pair this with a little adjustable flip screen from China also you can get reduce the wind blast quite well. That charity rideout was quite sedate. Thanks for watching my video and good luck with your purchase.

I didnt think Marshall's have the powers to direct traffic? Not good. Why dont you just obey the traffic lights, it's only a charity ride. Those Marshall's are lunatics, terrible riding skills.

You do have a point about the powers of the marshalls. The other side of the story is when cars get amongst the bikes there are more dangers. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment.
