@@gokeymasterflex I blame Coop for starting this nonesense. Anyone watching “Pumping iron” where the true legends worked on equipment without fancy names or model numbers or pretty color-matched collars will realize how stupid todays flexing trend is with overpriced gear by people who mostly look like they have never done a single push-up.

Last year I picked up two Titan 300lb Lat Pulldowns after hearing your praise for it! Very glad with the purchase. One thing to note is the bottom pulley is a real pain to use, in general. The cable pops off of the pulleys all the time. Definitely not a suitable design for a commercial setting but can be great for the home gym dweller.

Question: Why does everyone want expensive collars? I use spring collars and they seem to be fine

@GarageGymGainz
@GarageGymGainz 4 жыл бұрын
That makes sense! How do you like the Olympic handles?
@BrandonSchwartz1
@BrandonSchwartz1 4 жыл бұрын
@@GarageGymGainz honestly I’m a big fan. I have the Rogue DB-15s and while they’re certainly not going to win any speed competitions for changing weights, I actually prefer them to Powerblocks, Ironmasters, or selectorized styles due to their construction, rotating handles (personal preference), and ability to reuse Oly plates. Another big benefit is that microloading is so much simpler than using platemates for Powerblocks or change plates messing up threading spacing for Ironmasters. Obviously it all depends on how you lift and what types of movements you do, but I think they’re great if you mostly lift solo and don’t need super fast weight changes. For Powerblocks, I don’t like the cage feel, lack of metal handle without paying for commercial pro version, their accuracy isn’t great, and you are recommended to never drop them which I rarely do but it’s nice to be able to in a pinch. Ironmasters have a better feel but they only use 5lb (or smaller) plates which adds to crap you gotta store and I still question the safety since as the weight stack goes up, the amount the threaded screws are left in the handle is reduced. Also didn’t like having 3 sets of screws sitting around in addition to all the small 5lb plates since it was too many parts for my liking. Selectorized are the speed kings and there are cooler looking ones like the newer Nuobells but almost all of them have substantial plastic components and you’re hard capped at whatever the manufacturer gives you for max weight usually anywhere from 50-90lbs. I find the main drawbacks to Olympic DBs talked about 1) not being able to rest on your thighs and 2) long handles are a little overblown. If you angle the DBs, you can rest 8”-9” 10lb plates pretty comfortably though sometimes the collars will need to be rotated so they don’t dig in. For the handles, you just have to make small angle changes so they don’t hit (e.g. 30 degree for pressing, no rotating for bicep curls, etc). Obviously nothing beats straight up standalone dumbbells but some cheaper Titan handles ($75 /pair) are a good way for most people to experiment if they’re curious. Just make sure you don’t skimp on good collars 😎

@@GarageGymGainz It’s okay for what it’s worth. I use it after heavy squats when my legs are already beat up some and gives me a great pump. @@GarageGymGainz LOL! Yep, you won’t have to worry about being a “bad bar dad.” Warning: they’re not cheap, usually about a grand each, though Rogue and American Barbell are priced well under a grand. If you really want to go for it, the Ivanko ALL stainless steel power bar is the “Holy Grail” at $1200-plus; OUCH!

@@GarageGymGainz Sure you could, just don’t tell your wife. It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. Heck, I got a Schnell all stainless steel barbell that cost me $1500 cuz it shipped from Germany where they are made, and I never even mentioned it to my wife, she still does not know. Remember, quality trumps quantity, always. It’s not good to be a “bad bar dad.”

@@GarageGymGainz Is there enough spacing for you when you’re benching? Right now I have a fitness reality rack that has 3” spacing and I sometimes crash into the safety pins. I’m considering getting an RML

Plenty of space! Should be good even with the 30” depth. Have you tried scooting down further on the bench before unracking?

I think the expense can be justified if he is a P.T. or pro-athlete. Otherwise, I feel dropping 12 grand on a set up is a little excessive.
