Question: Why does everyone want expensive collars? I use spring collars and they seem to be fine
@GarageGymGainz4 жыл бұрын
Just preference really. Spring collars will probably wear out faster and might not hold as tightly on high rep sets of deadlift. I mainly got these because they look cool tbh!
@BrandonSchwartz14 жыл бұрын
I use my collars on Olympic dumbbell handles so having spring collars doesn’t really work for those since I need something lower profile.
@GarageGymGainz4 жыл бұрын
That makes sense! How do you like the Olympic handles?
@BrandonSchwartz14 жыл бұрын
@@GarageGymGainz honestly I’m a big fan. I have the Rogue DB-15s and while they’re certainly not going to win any speed competitions for changing weights, I actually prefer them to Powerblocks, Ironmasters, or selectorized styles due to their construction, rotating handles (personal preference), and ability to reuse Oly plates. Another big benefit is that microloading is so much simpler than using platemates for Powerblocks or change plates messing up threading spacing for Ironmasters. Obviously it all depends on how you lift and what types of movements you do, but I think they’re great if you mostly lift solo and don’t need super fast weight changes. For Powerblocks, I don’t like the cage feel, lack of metal handle without paying for commercial pro version, their accuracy isn’t great, and you are recommended to never drop them which I rarely do but it’s nice to be able to in a pinch. Ironmasters have a better feel but they only use 5lb (or smaller) plates which adds to crap you gotta store and I still question the safety since as the weight stack goes up, the amount the threaded screws are left in the handle is reduced. Also didn’t like having 3 sets of screws sitting around in addition to all the small 5lb plates since it was too many parts for my liking. Selectorized are the speed kings and there are cooler looking ones like the newer Nuobells but almost all of them have substantial plastic components and you’re hard capped at whatever the manufacturer gives you for max weight usually anywhere from 50-90lbs. I find the main drawbacks to Olympic DBs talked about 1) not being able to rest on your thighs and 2) long handles are a little overblown. If you angle the DBs, you can rest 8”-9” 10lb plates pretty comfortably though sometimes the collars will need to be rotated so they don’t dig in. For the handles, you just have to make small angle changes so they don’t hit (e.g. 30 degree for pressing, no rotating for bicep curls, etc). Obviously nothing beats straight up standalone dumbbells but some cheaper Titan handles ($75 /pair) are a good way for most people to experiment if they’re curious. Just make sure you don’t skimp on good collars 😎
@GarageGymGainz4 жыл бұрын
That’s one of the best comparisons I’ve seen! I really need to check out some Olympic handles. It sounds like there are some great benefits 💪
